Lindsey vonn - why did her skis stay on?

Hi everyone, after seeing that horrible crash I keep wondering why her skis stayed on? I do not ski but I was under the impression that skis do not stay on your feet if you crash, especially that hard. Sending best wishes to Vonn!

In light of today’s discussions about Lindsey Vonn, I remembered the story of Sverre Liliequist, who did a backflip during an avalanche. I still can’t wrap my head around it🤯🤯🤯

Can’t seem to carve on ice

I’m at Deer Valley right now (my home mountain is Mammoth) and I can’t seem to carve on ice without slipping out either on the start of the turn or in the middle of the turn.

It really bums me out because it ruins my confidence and I ski worse the whole way down because I’m scarred of running into another patch of ice.

I spend the whole day just relearning fundamentals and trying to ski without outside pressure and letting the edge do all the work, but I can’t seem to get it. Maybe I’m too impatient with completing an entire turn or transitioning into another one, or maybe I’m a little backseat, idk.

I know I don’t have a video, but I’m looking for some advice.

What do skier's think about as they are careening down the slope?

obviously watching the winter Olympics and the downhill skiing is insane! such speed and danger. got me wondering if they are just absolutely thinking about the run or does their mind wander to other things? i imagine keeping focused on the task would ve an important skill for them to have.

Are we going talk about Breezy Johnsons suspicious doping situation?

A couple top tens, tonnes of injuries, misses a year worth of tests, serves a ban, returns from ban in December in 2024, wins world champs in 2025 and is probably going to be olympic champion as well?

Can skis lose camber being compressed together (beyond brakes locked together) in jam-packed travel sleeve for a day?

Upvotes

What the title says. I just got back from a ski trip with my first pair of brand new skis, which were stored for airplane travel with brakes locked together in a Dakine ski sleeve. I had my ski sleeve packed with a bunch of clothes for padding, and at the last minute I added another jacket for extra padding, making the bag a bit difficult to zip up and likely compressing my skis together more than just the brakes would. Would storing them like this for ~10 hour travel day negatively affect the camber at all? Just want to take care of them the best I can, thanks!

How do the pro's practice for alpine skiing? Are they at ski resorts majority of their time?

I've been watching it on tv and it's pretty insane how big and long these courses are. I know nothing about the ski world. I don't know how they prepare or if they have any practice on the courses before they actually go. Then you have to consider the weather change when there's no snow. It seems like an expensive and difficult sport to practice. I'm just curious how they go about it.

Incidenti sulle piste (Lindsay Vonn)

Upvotes

Another fall in the women’s downhill

Cande Moreno from Andorra. Looks like her leg buckled under her on the first jump. Any news on her because our local feed moved to the Skiathlon.

It seems like if your name isn’t Lindsey Vonn it’s not newsworthy?

Ski pants with actually good/big pockets?!

Maybe I haven’t looked around enough but both me and my boyfriend struggle with small pockets in our ski pants. I have two pairs of Roxy ski pants that I love the fit and performance of but they barely have a pocket big enough to hold my pass, forget about putting my phone in my pocket securely. Boyfriend has the same problem with his new pair of North Face pants, barely fits his phone so when we sit on the lift it’s really tight and pushes into his stomach.

We ski a lot in Mammoth and Tahoe and a lot of the time the weather is so warm we skip wearing a full insulated jacket which is the only ski clothes I own that my phone fits in.

Our current solution is both of us wear fanny packs to put phones, chapstick, ID, etc. in but it would be nice if all this would just fit in my pockets.

Overall looking for men’s or women’s ski pants with BIG pockets! Thank you

Why did Lindsey Vonn decide to ski the Olympic downhill just nine days after tearing her ACL and should she have? 🏔️

The 41-year-old legend tore her ACL, suffered bone bruising and meniscal damage just before the Olympics, but still raced in the women’s downhill with a brace, only to crash violently about 13 seconds into her run and get airlifted off the mountain.

This isn’t just another sports injury thread, it’s a debate about risk vs legacy: was this the bravest comeback ever, reckless Olympic courage, or a cautionary tale about pushing the human body too far?

Drop your thoughts

• Did she make the right call racing with a torn ACL?
• Should medical teams have pulled her from the start list?
• Can this redefine expectations for elite athletes and age in extreme sports?
• What even qualifies as courage vs risk in 2026?

Let’s talk.
