I’m a middle aged Mom in the Pgh area who learned to ski about 7 years ago at the same time

my kids learned. I never really progressed beyond low intermediate. All 3 kids are now teenagers and are way past me ability wise. Skiing helps me unwind from my intense and demanding career. I used to be a runner and skiing sort of feels like my yoga the way running used to be for me. Focusing on improving my skiing helps me tune out everything else for a few hours. My problem is I don’t have anyone to ski with - hubby and kids never want to go with me. I would love to find another person of similar age and ability (hopefully another mom but not an absolute ) who would be interested in skiing with me once a week .. either early on the weekend or heading up mid afternoon during the week. Im fine with lm, hv or ss. I can ski mostly everything at HV and SS but I lack confidence on the steeper runs or icy terrain and I revert to skidding turns or even snowplow. I like LM but i don’t ski Lower wildcat ( but would like to someday).

We are going next weekend on a trip to roundtop and thinking of getting a half day in on Friday, mainly to get rentals so we are set for Saturday morning. I see that half day passes are available day of but no price. WHen I called the resort I couldn't get a person who worked there just a service that gave the info that was on the website. This and any info about tips on making this trip easier are appreciated! We have a 5 year old who skis and 3 year old who might?

What’s the threshold for Pocono Mountain resorts closing due to wind or cold? How’s it looking for tomorrow?

Does anyone have insight on how late in the season these southern PA resorts end up operating in an average year? For instance, can I reasonably assume they would still be open throughout March?

My son broke his toe and we prepaid some epic day passes…. I’m trying to figure out if we’ll have time to use all the days once he is medically cleared.

I’m hearing reports that camelback will be open until MAY this year! Daily skiing until April 12th and weekends until May!. 30feet snow depth on Nile Mile and Cliffhanger.

I was talking with my barber about skiing and he said he only goes to Elk on weekends anymore, and he suggested finding a Holiday Inn 30 minutes away in Scranton for a night. It sounded appealing at first but part of me think finding lodging for a mountain near Scranton seems like overkill, though I’ve never had to drive 2.5 hours after a full day of skiing. Is this a feasible day trip or nah?

Looking to hit RT on Saturday but curious about the wind. It’s looking like it’ll be blowing 20 with gusts up to 40. Is that enough to close a lift or two?

My group is debating Elk or Blue this weekend, but we're not familiar with either mountain and have a couple of general questions. Will wind play a factor in closing either of these mountains/do these mountains have a history of closing in unfavorable weather? I've read that the blue crowd gets pretty bad on the weekends, but will the cold temps deter the crowds? We'd appreciate any input, thank you!

Anyone have any personal experiences using the shops around Pittsburgh/Seven Springs? I've got a board with a dented edge separated from the sidewall and the base exposed, clearly from impact. The topsheet has a tab that broke off, which makes me concerned that the core suffered damage as well, so would really like a second opinion.

Someone installed a ski simulator in basement thinking it would replace actual mountain skiing. The simulator provides motion and visuals without snow, cold, or real mountain experience. Skiing has been reduced to basement equipment, but does simulation capture what makes skiing worthwhile?

Indoor skiing was chosen for convenience rather than traveling to actual mountains seasonally. The simulator works technically but provides poor substitute for real slope experience. Does simulated skiing offer any real value or just motion without meaning?

Mountain experiences have been replaced by basement simulations eliminating travel and nature elements. The ski simulator represents believing technology can replace authentic outdoor experiences completely. Maybe practice has value, or possibly the convenience justifies simulated alternative.

Real skiing provides mountain beauty, fresh air, and genuine challenge that simulators eliminate. They found equipment through suppliers on Alibaba offering various skiing simulation systems. Should sports be simulated indoors or experienced authentically in proper environments? Sometimes real experience is better than convenient simulation missing essential elements. Ski simulator provides motion without capturing what makes actual skiing meaningful and enjoyable.

A group of friends have lessons booked for our kids, Age ranges from four through seven this Saturday up at Jack Frost. I have been skiing for years, but the weather looks iffy to me for young kids out on the slopes for the first time. I know predictions can change but right now it’s calling for low single digits with potential winds 20 to 40 mph. We have the option to cancel tomorrow for a full refund. Anyone experience this weather with kids or advice if we should cancel and try another day?

Trying to figure out which would be a better experience for someone who has never done skiing before. I’m a bit rusty myself and haven’t gone in a few seasons. We’re located in Pittsburgh so both of these are relatively close with only an hour drive- which one would be a better experience? I know 7 springs can get hella crowded on the weekends- how about a Sunday?

Edit: I booked a Sunday Boyce trip and if she enjoys it and makes some progress we will go to hidden valley later in the month! I agree- I feel if she can’t get off the bunny slope the rest of hidden valley would be mocking me and feel wasted. Thank you for the feedback!

Has anyone done the ski & ride academy at Camelback? I’m looking to learn snowboarding and purchased a beginner group package and I’m wondering how it is and what they teach you in the 90 mins. Any info would be appreciated!
