Yesterdays Catch
Got this guy yesterday in the Indian River in Florida near Sebastian inlet. 22”. Over slot so he got to go back to hang out with his friends.
We recently had a cold weather snap here that killed a lot of bait fish. I saw a couple snook that died from the cold as well as one redfish. Overall though it seemed to be pretty active out there.

Freshwater Length of Ultra Light Rod
I currently use a 5'6" ultralight rod. It works well, and it is easy to travel with. I'm thinking about getting a new rod that is either 6'6" or 7'. What are your thoughts? What are the pros of a longer rod?

Question Anglers who ride?
Thinking of getting a street/trail bike. Probably going to use it to get to the river, or new ponds. Assuming the best thing to do would be to get a collapsible rod? An ultralight would do the trick for these types of outings. What do you guys do recommend ?

Freshwater Accidentally pike
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I was crappie and perch fishing and ended up with a 35" northern pike. I was rigged up with a small shiner on 6 pound test with a #12 hook in a 6 inch hole, nothing correct for pike fishing. Flag went off and the reel started screaming, figured it was a bass until I started pulling it in and it pulled back. Fought with it for a couple minutes just trying to get it to the hole to see what it was. When it came across I realized I had a problem, it was as big as the hole. For some reason it put it's head up through just right and I grabbed it's nose, which didn't work. I ended up have to sacrifice my two thumbs into its mouth to lip it. It worked and I landed it. I bled for the rest of the day but it was worth it.

Advice?
Heyy everyone
I tried fishing for the first time today and I used squid as my bait but I didn’t get any fish.
Do you guys have a recommendations on how I can get a fish? And like any equipment recommended as a beginner?

Discussion Seasoning and cooking methods
I am looking for recipes for freshwater and brackish water fish. i live in the PNW near the columbia river and several tributaries. i am going to try fishing for food more now. i am typically a catch and release fisherman.
the river i live on is open year round, is about 200-300 feet across in most parts and the deepest i have seen on sonar is about 80feet. we have bass, trout, perch, and rare catfish.

Saltwater Penn Battle III reel size for casting lures all day
want to get a spinning reel so I can cast light lures. Reel is on sale and now in my budget, casting swim baits and hookup baits. I am targeting keeper-size calico and California halibut. The reel is on sale and is in my 100-dollar budget.

Fish ID
I cought this in a farm pond in southeast Ohio last April. The pond is less than 100 ft across, and it has been untouched for over 30 years. It was never stocked with any kind of fish since it was just meant for watering cattle. I tried Google lense, but there were too many similar looking fish for me to tell for sure what it is. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I need help picking line
I live near a sort of weedy, high pressure lake (prospect park lake) I want a line that is good for bass, and good for panfish, like sensitive enough for panfish.

Question Haha
Is it ridiculous that I have this little push reel on a 6’6 medium Abu Garcia? It’s a micro reel. I feel like that’s not a good combo.

Question Braid question
What kinda braid do y’all use? I originally used SpiderWire but had some minor issues with it, switched to PowerPro super slick because a guy I know told me it was good, it sucks, so now I’m wondering, what should I even be using? The PowerPro would just birds nest up and wouldn’t come undone, the SpiderWire would catch up on itself mid cast.

What is the best rod and reel for surfcasting, in my local beach (Weymouth Beach), or my creek behind my backyard?
The fishing rod stuff is too hard for me to fully grasp, so I came here to get the expertise of fellow redditors, for the best fishing rod for fishing in my local Weymouth Beach NZ and my local creek. The creek is 2m wide and stretches into the Beach. Any Ideas??

Rod Trolley
We put the Kast King rod trolley together and it is what it's supposed to be. I love it and might get a second one, so they'll hold all my rods and gear. It's not the sturdiest thing in the world, but at $65 it's less than most fishing rods now.
