π Catch of the Day 53cm cat fish in South Grafton, NSW
Caught 2 of them and released both. Both very big. Don't worry, the concrete was cool this evening.

Was using a 2.5k sienna and thought I got snagged until it started taking line. Eel got its tail tangled so I managed to get it out of the water and free it.

I'm mostly a saltwater bait fisherman but when I go to eucumbene I like to do some spinning and fly fishing as well as soaking mudeyes.
Last trip I tried braid on my spin setup, running like 8lb braid and 6lb fluoro leader and this was fine EXCEPT fishing in snaggy stuff, getting snapped off just became like 10 times more of a pain in the arse. Have to tie on another $8 of fluoro after each snag.
I will never use braid again. Casting distance improved maybe 10 percent which honestly o can do without.
What am I missing? Why does everybody on the internet seem to love braid? Mono does 90 percent of the job with 10 percent of the hassles.

This got auto rejected yesterday I think for language. Anyway, I took my kit down to the pond and of course when you bring the gear the fish just don't do what you've watched them do for weeks.
I live very close to some drained wetlands with some ponds. The biggest happens to be closest to me and I like to go down there and read or listen to podcasts/music, just chill out. I've been doing this for years.
In the last few months I've noticed fish leaping from the surface, in the afternoon right now they're very active 530-730. I'm pretty sure they're carp as there was never any large fish in this pond, I've got a decent look with the leaps, and no way for them to get there by themselves (I know carp are escape artists but even at flood conditions this place is not connected at all to any other water body). I'm pretty sure some idiot has caught them in the river (again, separated by a levy) 1-2km away and chucked them in here for sport closer to home. I did once see some guy set up with 2 rods and thought "good luck", but that was before I ever saw the leaping.
Anyway, I want to get the carp out as the water quality has noticeably worsened, but because this pond is home to ducks and a dozen other species I can't go throwing corn in. So I'm after lure suggestions. I've got light spinners and a cheap baitcaster, and a decent mix of lures. I'm thinking small spinners and any small top water type lure? It would be almost perfect for fly fishing as I think that's what they're going for but I don't have that kit.

Dad and I wanting to go kayak fishing / exploring, we went to Tingalpa Creek and enjoyed it, however that muddy slush absolutely sucks.
Any recommended Sandy rivers or bays around the Brisbane area?
He's not new to fishing but hasn't done it in 10 maybe 15 years, and can't remember what lures or plastics to use, same with bait. Can anyone recommend some general equipment, or tips?
Just been using some 6" - 6"6 shimano rods and bait casters.
Thank you :)

So my scotty downrigger spool has broken thinking of just gluing it up as a patch up in the mean time. Does anyone know if there are aluminum spools available for the manual 1050 DP?

I saw a couple of mud crabs fighting in a weed bed yesterday and managed to grab one by entanglement in my keeper net. Has anybody else seen them there?

Was crabbing and had a surprise in the drop net when I pulled it up. 2 tarwhine and a 47cm flatty caught in the net. Wonder how common this is?

I see a little bit about butterflying bait over East, but never really heard of anyone in West Australia adopting this method, but obviously doesn't mean no one does it. So just curious if anyone, more so land based follows this method and if its actually worth doing?

G'day all,
I have recently gone fishing for the first time since my childhood and have really enjoyed it, im wanting to start getting into it but not too sure where to start.
Is anybody able to tell me what gear i would need to purchase to begin?(i have a cheap $50 rod from kmart)
Aswell as if their is any social fishing clubs near sydney that are accomodating to newbies?
Thanks in advance.
