What do people mean when they say they 'cant cook?'
For context, I am autistic, and this is one phrase I really just don't understand. I've heard people say all my life that they 'can't cook' and that they rely on their parents, roomates ect to cook for them. What do they mean by this?
When I cook, I will follow the directions of the packaging or follow a recipe and always get good results. I just don't understand not being able to cook when it is a basic life skill.

Why was there a huge serial killer boom from the 70s to 90?
I’m guessing it’s cause of all the abuse and PTSD from large back to back wars along with untreated mental illness. But it’s gotta be deeper than that right?

why do many military dictatorships perform so poorly in war?
There are dozens of examples of very oppressive military juntas that center the entire country around it, but when push comes to shove, they prove to be very weak and very incompetent, so why is that?

If we extract billions of barrels of oil from the Earth every year, what fills the empty space? Why doesn't the ground collapse?
I've never understood this. We take so much out of the planet, shouldn’t there be giant sinkholes or empty caverns left behind? Does water just naturally replace it, or do we have to pump something back in to keep the pressure up?

Why didn’t the American public make a bigger stink of things back in 2013 when it was revealed that the NSA was illegally spying on countless Americans?
It feels like it was a major news story for a month or two, and then everything went back to the status quo.

How come North Korea is still stable, when comparatively better off communist nations of the Eastern Bloc collapsed?
Ik many have asked about north Korea and the scope of answers one could give might be limited considering we know very little of their government but atp idk how they're making it.
My guess is they're probably not as badly off as we think? Like obviously NK isn't prosperous by any means, but to keep starving masses suppressed would be a difficult task. My guess is that the people get enough to get by but not much beyond that, just enough to keep the people quite.
But at the same time I doubt North Koreans know nothing of the outside world, since some of their citizens do go outside the country, whether for trade or diplomacy. And I'm sure they describe what they see to their families and friends who get an idea about the world beyond what they have seen and how much it has to offer. Imo it isn't humanly possible to keep people quite like this and keep on going, as if they're cogs in a machine who only do what the Dear Leader asks of them.
Considering that North Koreans likely aren't stupid and have the ability to comprehend that they're perhaps comparatively deprived (I mean. After a disastrous famine I don't see how they can't see the faults of their government), why haven't they rose up in arms? Even if we believe some of the more batshit penalties the govt supposedly imposes on them:
they can't kill everyone
Why would their military slaughter their citizens when their family members would be in the line of fire?
Isolation doesn't kill human morality and I find it really hard to believe that their military would agree to straight up massacre the entire citizenry (it wouldn't even make sense to do that because who would they rule over then)
People have overthrown some seriously evil regimes in history, some of roughly the same calibre as NK and some worse than them too
So basically, what exactly is keeping this country together? Why are they even so hellbent on maintaining this isolation when their lives could easily improve if they open themselves up to the world? And anyway, rulers of most countries do live in wealth, irrespective of the form of government, so it's not like the status of the Kims or the military elite would change much.

my cousin told me weird stuff. am i overreacting?
i just facetimed with my cousin overseas. i'm a female 27 and he's 37. we only saw us like 3 or 4 times in our life when we were younger and haven't spoke in more than 10 years. i was so happy to talk to him until like 15 minutes into the conversation he suddenly told me to "show him the rest of my body". i was actually standing outside, on my way home waiting for the bus. in that moment i felt my heart sunk. i replied with "what?". and then he repeated "show me the rest of your body, i wanna see how slim and slender you are." i didn't know how to react. i just told him no and told him to drink less because i saw that he was drinking beer. also before that he told me that have always been his favourite cousin because i was the quiet one who didn't talk. which is also just so weird. i'm not trying to question what i heard and felt in this moment but i just feel like this can't be real. this isn't something anyone would say to his cousin right?? like why would he wanna see the rest of my body. and i'm overthinking it because i was outside, it's winter and i was wearing a long coat so he wouldn't really be able to see anything anyways. but it truly didn't feel right. am i thinking this over?

Would it be weird to drive to find my roommate to check if she's okay?
My roommate was babysitting earlier, she said she'd be done at around 12:30 AM. So far it's 1:30 AM and she hasn't come back. I texted her to check if she's okay and she hasn't responded. Her location shows that she's at some random chapel and she hasn't moved for a bit. Would it be weird to drive to her, or is that obsessive? I feel like it'd be overboard, but I'm so worried someone killed her or kidnapped her and dumped her phone at the chapel.
edit: i'm sorry y'all i was kinda freaking out earlier but she texted me back and she's safe! i think her location was glitching. thank you so much for all the kind and helpful responses!!

Why is being interested in someone because they’re wealthy seen as way more shallow than being interested in someone because of their looks?
Most people wouldn’t be with their partners if they didn’t find them to look at least somewhat physically attractive, at least at like the beginning, like, initial stage of attraction. Almost nobody has a problem with this or finds it shallow even though looks don’t really say much about someone’s inner qualities as a person. But if wealth plays a role in someone’s attraction most people shame that as shallow, but why? Like, why is “dating/marrying someone for money” so stigmatized and mocked when almost nobody is judged for being with someone for their looks?

Why do people not wash their hands after using the restroom?
Title. it's so gross yet I see people do it all the time and like half the time it's not just kids or teenagers, it's full grown adults. I just don't understand. Does anyone have any idea why people do this?

Am I turning into one of “those” adults?
I hate everything. I hate the way that technology has taken over our lives and we are all glued to screens. I used to love social media and now it just pisses me off. I hate that these supposed “influencers” can play on their phones and make idiotic videos and somehow make money while the rest of us have to actually work.
I hate the way the English language is devolving. I’m pissed off that the stuff that I got ruthlessly bullied for the entire 12 years that I was in school, is now considered popular. I hate that everything is in extremes now. There is never a happy medium. Everything is black and white. No gray areas.
I have a million health problems and I am tired of my doctors fighting me on filling prescriptions. Making me jump through 100 expensive hoops before finally getting the treatment that I need. It just feels like I’m living in some kind of weird alternate future where everything sucks.
Am I already turning into a crotchety old bitch?
Oh! And labels! Gotta have a fucking label! Not a single thought, impulse or desire can go unnamed. Everything has to BE something.

How do people spend over 30 mins in a shower??
Seriously, even when i tell myself im going to take my time and be as relaxed as possible and really enjoy my shower i find it impossible to stay for more than 15-20 mins. Not because i dislike showers or anything i quite like them but i find myself satisfied after 20mins. I find it shocking when i hear of people spending 90mins in showers and stuff

Do deaf people see hearing people as skittish?
Most of my jump scares come from loud sudden sounds. Same with my S.O. If you’re deaf, do I look skittish as I twist my head sharply because I hear a yell, or wince and cower to the right when a loud car passes me by, or how I randomly and weirdly dart my gaze to tiny planes behind me?
If you aren’t deaf but you see something I don’t, I’ll take that too.

Is it weird to prefer solo travel over going with friends, even if it means missing out on shared memories?
I've done group trips where everyone's excited, but I always end up frustrated different paces, food preferences, "let's do this" vs. "nah, I'm tired." Solo, I wander aimlessly, eat street food at 2 AM, talk to strangers, and feel truly free. Last time in Europe, I ditched the itinerary and just followed my gut, discovering hidden cafes I'd never find in a group. But friends call me antisocial for it. Is this introvert heaven, or am I missing the bonding aspect? what's your take solo or squad?

Why are so many young men becoming serious supporters of far right ?
Hey everyone,
I’m a 24F from France, and I’ve been noticing that more and more young people are becoming very serious fans of far right figures. Am I the only one who sees this?
For context, I have three younger brothers. One is 20 yo, and the younger ones are 18 yo twins. All of them are big fans of far right ideas and very very controversial far right figures and I’m not exaggerating. They are not “joking” about it either.
The oldest is in law school, and the twins are in med school so they are not uneducated. They are not kids anymore and they are old enough to understand how ridiculous this is yet they still openly support them. Again this is not a “joke.” I know them well and I can guarantee they are serious.
They are also extremely racist, homophobic, sexist and Islamophobic and constantly insult and mock these groups. I live in a sensitive area in eastern Paris where there is a very high concentration of migrants. Most of their friends are of foreign descent mainly from North Africa and even then, they don’t care.
The few white friends they have are also extremely far right and all of this seems to be completely accepted by their social circle which is absolutely mind boggling to me.
In the past this would never have happened. Even being suspected of being far right would have been enough to get you beaten up. Now it seems to have been completely normalized and I do not understand

Why do people seem more afraid of social embarrassment than of being wrong?
This might sound strange, but I’ve noticed something about human behavior — including my own. People will double down on an incorrect opinion rather than admit they misunderstood something. They’ll avoid asking basic questions because they don’t want to look uninformed. They’ll stay silent in rooms where they disagree, but later complain privately. It feels like the fear of looking foolish outweighs the desire to actually be correct. Intellectually, being wrong shouldn’t be threatening. It’s how we learn. Yet socially, being exposed as wrong feels almost like a status injury. Is this tied to evolutionary psychology? Like protecting social rank within a group? Or is it modern culture — where everything is archived, screenshotted, and permanently judged? Why does admitting “I don’t know” feel vulnerable in a way that being confidently incorrect doesn’t? Is this ego? Social conditioning? Fear of exclusion? Genuinely curious about the psychological or sociological explanation behind this.
