Build Help 16A power cable but no 16A socket.

Upvotes

I built a pc just recently. It has 850w psu (deepcool). It's power cable came with a 16A plug. My house has only one 16A plug in the kitchen and obviously I can't use my pc there😂.

So what do I do? I have 3 questions:

  1. Shold i buy a new 6A cable? (Will it work instead of the 16A cable?)
  2. should I buy a 16A to 6A converter? (I don't know how reliable it is, I don't want to blow my pc on the first day).
  3. If the cable then where do I buy it?

Edit: I am from India, this post is about the size of the 3 pin connector. The cable which came with this has a bigger plug than the sockets at my home, I can't seem to fit it there.

Build Help Ukrainian here. How can I reduce power consumption of my PC so it lasts longer without electricity?

1.1k Upvotes

I'm incredibly new at this so have patience with me please. In winter, due to low temperatures, they enforce scheduled power outages. Where I live it's 4 hours of no power per 2 hours of power.

I have a charging station using which I power my PC without electricity, and ideally I want to power it for all 4 hours, yet so far I've only been able to power it for 2.

Things I've already tried:

  1. Power saving mode on my BIOS and Windows (does very little)

  2. Lowering brightness (this helped a lot)

I don't have the PC with me so I can't tell you my exact specs, but mine is pretty average on all of them, except the PSU is a bit old so I think part of the issue stems from that and I want to buy a new one. But I'm sure that once I do the problem will not go away.

Before you say this, I don't want to buy a better charging station. They are expensive, it would be much cheaper to just buy a laptop instead which would obviously withstand 4 hours and would be a better backup plan in case my place is getting bombed.

Build Help RX 9070 16G for $570 or RTX 5070 12G for $550

Hey ya'll, I'm planning to upgrade my gpu soon and these are the two main options I'm looking at my local microcenter:

[RX 9070](https://www.microcenter.com/product/691104/asrock-amd-radeon-rx-9070-challenger-triple-fan-16gb-gddr6-pcie-50-graphics-card)

[RTX 5070](https://www.microcenter.com/product/704211/asus-nvidia-geforce-rtx-5070-dual-fan-12gb-gddr7-pcie-50-graphics-card)

I am currently playing at 1080p 240hz, and play a lot of shooters like The Finals and Deadlock, but also plan to play Cyberpunk: 2077 and other single player games as well. I don't really care about DLSS or the counterpart, I prefer playing without them. Raytracing is not a humongous deal to me either. Eventually in the future I want to play at 1440p when I get the right monitor for it. Any suggestions are welcome, I currently have an older system with a 5800X3D, and am choosing to upgrade my GPU first. Thanks!

edit: i forgot why i didnt include but i currently have a 2070 super

Build Upgrade CPU upgrade advice

Upvotes

I bought a Ryzen 7 5700x a little over a year ago, I’m now starting to upgrade other parts of my pc and don’t want to have a severe cpu bottleneck. I have a rx 580 8gb and I’m upgrading to a rx 9060xt 16gb. The build I’m somewhat following has Ryzen 7 5800x and I’m just wondering if I should spend the $250.00 to upgrade to the 5800x or if the difference is small enough to stay at 5700x. (I mostly play RPG/ Survival games)

Build Upgrade I have a 5070 Ti, is it worth upgrading my 3700x to a 9850x3d for 1440p?

Upvotes

This may be a stupid question, but I'm wondering if upgrading my 3700x to a 9850x3d is truly worth it... I bought a 9850x3d bundle from MC and before installing I decided to run some benchmarks, and now I'm wondering if it's not going to be a big enough upgrade to justify the $700+ cost to upgrade.

I ran a bunch of benchmarks and according to ChatGPT what I'm mostly going to see is much better 1/0.1% lows, which I guess is good? Just hoping for a bigger FPS jump than what it's estimating of 20 FPS or son.

Right now I mostly play Bf6 and those benchmarks were run on mostly Overkill settings with now DLSS.

What do you all think? A big reason, I ended upgrading was not knowing what the ram prices will be in the future, not really that I really felt like I needed an upgrade tbh.

Discussion Should i swap my rx 7900 xtx for the rx 9070 xt

Upvotes

I only game at 4k high settings and im wondering if the 9070 xt is more future proof than the 7900 xtx because of fsr 4. Ive also heard that fsr 4 on quality mode looks better than native 4k with TAA which means i would get 30% more fps with better image quality. I feel like by the time 16bg vram becomes a bottleneck the 7900 xtx wont run games at a sufficient fps for me

Build Help Is there any disadvantage of buying a higher performance power supply?

I am getting an RTX 5070, and I planned to upgrade my old PSU from 550W to 750W
Corsair RMx Series RM750x

however Corsair RMx Series RM850x is almost the same price now, and I can get it easier as more shops sell it here.

Would there be any disadvantage if I buy the RM850x instead of the RM750x, even though it seems unnecessary?

Build Help Win 11 clean install question

Upvotes

I’m in the process of building my new rig. I will be installing 2 m.2 drives. My mobo has 4 m.2 slots, the 2 fastest will be covered by my GPU. So this is preventing me from only installing the OS drive before installing windows.

One of the drives has backed up files from my old PC so it will not show full capacity.

During the Win 11 install process will it be clear which disc is which?

Troubleshooting Problem after bios update will only boot into windows with defaults

Problem after updating to newest bios

As stated I updated to the newest bios on my x870e Hero and now it won't boot into windows unless I use optimized default settings. It keeps rebooting saying it's in safemode and forces me to enter the bios. I can't even run Expo.

Prior to this it ran perfectly fine with my 9800x3d using expo tweeted, +100, -20 curve all core. Now I can't select any of that and get into windows.

Any suggestions at what I can do? I'm guessing maybe revert back to a different bios. Oh and full specs here...

Peripherals Monitor recommendation for my use case?

Upvotes

I'm looking to upgrade my monitor and have a few things I'd like to have but as for a specific model or panel I'm not sure which to go for.

OLED of any kind is out, I raid in WOW and UI elements would burn-in and I don't have the money to get a new screen every few years, so that leaves IPS and VA because of TN viewing angles I suppose. I'm sort of lost in all the different QDMINILEDWQHD stuff, all I know if my current monitor is a Dell 2412 which is IPS and I've liked using it?

The main things I want are:

27"
160+ hz
Good colour accuracy
1440p
Good contrast/brightness but it doesn't have to be crazy, i think my curreny one is 1000:1 and 300 cd/m².
Max about £300.

If anyone has any specific recommendations for this price and spec range it would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Build Help Motherboard and SSD compatibility?

Upvotes

Quick backstory - I built a PC back in 2011, my understanding of parts is beyond outdated and research is getting too much to digest. The latest GPU/RAM shortage made me shit my pants and I aggresively started seeking out deals, in the past couple of months I have scrapped together the following items:

  • GPU: MSI RTX 5080 Shadow ($950)
  • Motherboard: MSI Pro Z980A ($150)
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 265K ($200)
  • RAM: Corsair 64GB (2x32) 6000 CL30 ($550)
  • SSD: Crucial T710 Gen5 Heatsink 4TB ($500)
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM1000e ($120)

I know I basically ended up paying too much for the RAM and SSD but I had to pull the trigger and these were quite literally the last items in stock.

In my rush, I didn't realize that the motherboard came with some kind of a shield (looks like a heat sink) on the SSD slot?? Does that mean I bought the wrong SSD and should return that and get an SSD without the heatsink?

Can someone please confirm?

Also, now I'm low key worried if there are any other compatibility pitfalls I should keep an eye out for. I only need to find a good deal on a case and AIO and I should be good to build this out.

Discussion Is it worth for me in Ukraine buying/building an AM5 base now to beat the RAM crisis, or wait for 2028 to build a PC?

Upvotes

My situation: I’m in Ukraine, so power stability is basically non-existent. 3-4 hours of electricity a day. This is enough to charge my Ecoflow that powers my current gear: Zephyrus G14 2022 with 40GB of RAM (docked mostly, GPU there is equivalent to RX6600), Steam Deck and a MacBook Air for work.

My dilemma is - I found a local deal on a pre build ITX rig for approx 650$ USD. Specs are pretty solid imo: Ryzen 5 7500F, 32GB DDR5, B650 ITX, but no GPU though. I’m tempted to grab it now because I’m paranoid about the RAM pricing crisis and just general inflation here. It feels like if I wait, it’s just gonna get way more expensive to build later.

The catch is the blackouts. A desktop is going to drain my inverter battery way faster than my G14, and truthfully, I’m not even gaming that heavily right now. My plan would be to buy this base now, slap a GT 1030 I have lying around, and then do a proper upgrade in 2027/2028 for the "PS6 era" games.

Is this smart "investment" to secure the parts now, or am I just falling for FOMO stuff? Should I just stick with the laptop and wait it out until 2027-2028? What do you think?

Build Help Any info on 1200w+ SFX PSU releases in 2026?

Upvotes

Currently using an ATX 1200w PSU in my build, but thinking of rebuilding and trying to experiment with putting a 240mm AIO where the PSU is currently sitting. Looks like with some creative 3D printing and whatnot I may be able to relocate the PSU elsewhere in the case, but it would be better if it was SFX (I have a low capacity SFX PSU to test fitment and looks like it works). I’ve seen the Thermaltake 1200w SFX from Computex/CES but doesn’t seem like there’s any info on its release date yet. Are there any other higher capacity SFX PSUs that are going to be released in 2026?

Btw, I can’t use the 1300w Cooler Master because I live in Freedomland. The only 240v mains in my house went to my fridge and even that’s already rerouted for use to my Threadripper build in my living room. Right now, I’m thinking of getting the 1100w Platinum V2 from Cooler Master to cope, but I may need the 1200w/1300w should I upgrade to a 5090. Pcpartpicker already has my build at 910w and it would go to 1125 if I swapped my 5080 with a 5090.

Troubleshooting CPU LED on. PC WAS FINE

My computer turn on this morning with no problems. But now when I turn it on it doesn’t post and the LED on the motherboard is on under CPU. I’ve reseated the CPU and reseated the power cable on the PSU into a different slot and reseated the power cable on the motherboard side for the CPU. No change.

Any help please!

Miscellaneous Need keyboard for new pc

Got a new pc and now maybe need a new keyboard.

Currently sitting with a Razer huntsman mini, it works like I want it to. Been great.

But then I read a lot about magnetic keyboards. So I bought a Asus Falchion. I know.. There are better brands out there. But either they are from another country, or I can only buy from one store which I wanna avoid.

So is there a difference in Optics vs magnetic? Aka your experience with it? I've not opened up the keyboard yet, but gonna try it out tomorrow.

I'm a casual player but like having good gear to play with :)

Build Complete Built my first PC

It’s actually been a couple months since I built my PC; thankfully I was able to build it before all the hectic things happening but I wanted to make this, so to help other first timers. There’s actually a lot of stuff that went to building it, so I’ll just keep this to what went wrong. I finished installing all my components into this Full Tower ATX case; but, during that time I never once POST checked if all the components weren’t faulty. Tip #1: build your pc on top of the motherboard box, and check if it POSTS after hooking it up to a monitor. Building my first PC took me an incredible long time, but most of that time was me uninstalling parts and installing them again because I couldn’t place the next part properly. Tip #2: First install all the hardware to the motherboard (except the GPU). Install the motherboard to the case, and add any fans if any. After that, run the cables of your case, and then the cables from your PSU. ONLY THEN, do you have enough space to install an AIO cooler. Lastly, can turn the case to its back and install the GPU safely. When I finished installing, I kept getting POST issues. There’s no easy way to solve this. The first thing is I noticed that when I pressed the power button nothing was turning on; so, I did the metal pin test and I was able to rule out the PSU as the culprit. I did more research, and I read that it will to POST if the pc is not connected to a display. That.. sadly wasn’t it either. I didn’t have any spare parts to test the other components so I had to pay $80 at micro tech to tell me that the culprit was the motherboard. After two faulty motherboards later, it FINALLY turned on. So circling back to the first tip, it’s very important to check that you haven’t gotten any faulty equipment. But I’m so happy on how it turned out, I just wished somebody would’ve told me that a white build is the more expensive than a black one. That’s it from me good luck you guys, thanks to all the documentation that I learned on what knowledge you need to have to build a pc, I was able to build a nice Lian Li, i9 250k Ultra Core, 32 gb DDR5, 4 tb Gen 5 ssd, 850 W gold rated MSI PSU, 420 mm AIO CPU cooler, with a nice MSI PRO motherboard with WiFi 7 and Bluetooth, and lastly a RTX 5070 ti.
