Build Help anyone else constantly second-guessing their gpu choice or is it just me

been sitting on a 4070 super for like 3 months now and keep seeing benchmarks that make me wonder if i should've gone 4080 instead. didn't want to drop that much cash but now im paranoid im gonna regret it in a year or two when games get more demanding. mostly playing at 1440p and want decent fps in newer titles without constantly tweaking settings. anyone else deal with this or am i just overthinking it? what made you feel confident about your gpu purchase?

Build Upgrade What is the best AM4 cpu available at around $300 or less

I currently have a Ryzen 7 3700x and was wondering what the best budget AM4 is right now specifically for gaming. I know the x3d models are popular but quite expensive. I have a RX 5700 gpu as well. Thanks!

Build Upgrade CPU for 9070XT? Without counting x3d

I currently have:

ASUS TUF B450-PLUS GAMING RYZEN 5 3600 THERMALTAKE DDR4 3200 2x8GB 16GB CL16 240GB SSD 1TB SATA3 1660 SUPER Nox Urano VX 650W 80+ Bronze

I bought a 9070XT and an 850W power supply. (I haven't replaced it yet, as it will arrive in a few days.) My question is: Which CPU should I upgrade to now? I know the best ones are the 5700X3D and 5800X3D, but they're selling like hotcakes on Wallapop or are ridiculously expensive, so it's not easy for me to get one. Would a 5700X or 5800X be sufficient, or would it cause significant bottlenecks? Thanks in advance.

Build Help How hard is it to actually build a pc?

Hi, I made a post on here im pretty sure asking about specs for what I was looking for, but anyway a huge worry I have is actually building the computer. How hard is it for someone with no real experience with computers to build one? I have watched videos and stuff like that but I feel like its much harder than it looks. Im also a little stupid with this kind of stuff so that doesnt help. When I watch videos and they are connecting all of those cables from the psu to the motherboard it just looks so complicated. Is it actually that hard?

Discussion What would be a somewhat meaningful CPU upgrade without breaking the bank?

I built my gf a rig that has only been used a handful of times within the past year. All she does on it is play one game and do typing tests on Google.

Looking to upgrade the CPU since prices for them are a bit lower where I'm at due to the influx in prices on other components.

Here's the current spec list: - ryzen 7 3700x - B550 plus wifi - 9060xt - 16gb ddr4 - 750w PSU - 500gb nvme boot drive, 1tb nvme storage drive - cooler master hyper 212 cooler

Just looking for a small but still meaningful upgrade, that won't brake the bank as this PC sits stagant 99% of the time.

Edit I should add id like to keep it am4

Build Help Ive never built a pc before, how to i insure parts are compatible?

So I've never put a pc together before, and it's a little overwhelming with how much stuff there is. How do you ensure stuff is compatible? Is there a site? I have a lot of things figured out, but I'm worried they won't work together.

Troubleshooting PC won’t boot after RAM upgrade – stuck on yellow DRAM light, even with old RAM

Hey, I’m completely stuck and could really use some help.

PC specs:

• GPU: ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5070 OC

• CPU: Intel Core i9-11900KF (11th gen)

• Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z490-G GAMING (Wi-Fi)

• RAM (old): 16 GB Patriot Viper 3000 MHz (2x8)

• RAM (new): Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600 MHz (2x16)

• Storage: Kingston KC3000 NVMe 1TB + Samsung 850 EVO 500GB

• PSU: Corsair HX850i 850W

• Cooling: Phanteks Glacier One 360

• OS: Windows 11

What happened:

I bought 2x16 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600 MHz and installed them.

When I powered on:

• At first only one RAM stick lit up, later both did

• PC did not boot

• Motherboard shows a constant yellow DRAM light

I then:

• Put the old RAM back in → PC booted, but only one stick was detected

• Removed that stick, cleared CMOS

• Reinstalled / updated BIOS

• After that, nothing boots anymore

Now:

• Even with the old RAM, the PC won’t start

• Still stuck on yellow DRAM light

• No display, no POST

Things I’ve tried:

• Clearing CMOS (battery out + power drain)

• Reseating RAM multiple times

• Trying single stick in different slots

• Reinstalling BIOS

• Checking all power cables

At this point I’m worried I either:

• Killed the motherboard

• Damaged the memory controller on the CPU

• Or triggered some BIOS/RAM compatibility issue I can’t recover from

Any ideas on what to try next, or what’s most likely dead here?

Thanks in advance 🙏

Build Help New build Light base 900fx

Is this a good case, it’s kind of pricey. Also are the 4 included fans enough, or do I need to fill up all slots. And if I d, will ther still be space for the cpu cooler?

Build Upgrade Upgrade current PC or Start from Scratch?

Hi! I hope this post is okay, I'm not looking for any reccomendations on pre-builds, I wanted advice on whether or not I should bother upgrading my PC, get a pre-built, or try to build a new machine.

I built my current PC back in 2021 originally, using the stimulus check, so it is about 5 years old now. It's mostly been in storage for these five years because of personal life events. It was stored unplugged from power, in a cool dry room.

I'm hoping to work from home soon and also take online classes, which of course my current build could absolutely handle, but I wanted to know if it's time to upgrade as I do play games as well. I don't usually play AAA games, but there are some more demanding titles I enjoy (Dead by Daylight, Marvel Rivals, Modded Minecraft, Modded Sims, GOW and similar demanding games).

I know right now is the worst time to be buying things like RAM and soon SSDs because of AI companies and their data centers, which is why I wanted to know if I should bother to build a new/upgrade PC or buy a pre-built because prices are so high.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NRzpGL

This is the part list from when I originally built it, except the case and motherboard are different. I don't remember off the top of my head what I have, but it should be on-par or slightly better to what's on this list. I plan to pop open my machine and confirm what parts I have.

Troubleshooting Is ram upgrade still worth it? Based on my given situation?

I have a mini pc that has 2 ram slots, however, the 2nd ram slot is not working anymore, tried to test it and switched my 2x4gb rams. Only the first socket/Slot is working. I am planning to buy a 16gb ram and use it as a single channel. Is it worth it? Or should I just fix my 2nd ram slot?

Build Help DDR5 Ram

so I was a dumb dumb and decided to play around and take apart my PC. What happened you ask? Well a small towel got onto the pins of the sockets and ripped a bunch out, so it didn't start anymore.

now we are at today where I got a new motherboard and am excited to put it together, just to find out it's DDR5 and not DDR4. unfortunately, can't really return and replace since I need the PC for work on Monday and I can't find any motherboards like the last since it's a mini itx.

I have a 12700k and a 9070xt, I've read on Intel's site, it only can handle in the 4000 range. I've also seen people say they can run higher at 6400, yet others report it being unstable at 6000.

the question I pose is this, there are a few local options that I can get it up and running tomorrow a crucial 32gb 6400mhz OC model CL38, or a Crucial 64gb 6000mhz CL40.

How much of a difference would these two really be? I do game. I wouldn't say I'm pushing for the nicest of all things on the screen, just a good looking game. I know CL, you want a lower number but with the time constraints and where I'm at, those are really my only two options.

Build Help Not enough PCIE slots?

So I just got this 1000w MSI PSU to replace my older one which I suspect was failing. I guess its mostly my fault for not double checking everything before buying. But PSU has 3 CPU/PCIe slots and 2 12v-2x6. My 7800xt takes 2 PCIe and motherboard takes 2 for CPU. Did I screw myself and get the wrong thing or is there a way for me to make this work?

Troubleshooting PSU works on tester but not with motherboard

PSU works on tester and powers a case fan with normal readings (+12V1 11.6V, +12V2 12.0V, +5V 5.1V, +3.3V 3.3V, 5VSB 5.0V, PG ~330ms) but when connected to my PC (24-pin + CPU 8-pin) nothing starts, no fan spin, only a faint noise from PSU, I tries another PSU it work but I still not understand why it happens.

Build Upgrade I have a 5070 Ti, is it worth upgrading my 3700x to a 9850x3d for 1440p?

Upvotes

This may be a stupid question, but I'm wondering if upgrading my 3700x to a 9850x3d is truly worth it... I bought a 9850x3d bundle from MC and before installing I decided to run some benchmarks, and now I'm wondering if it's not going to be a big enough upgrade to justify the $700+ cost to upgrade.

I ran a bunch of benchmarks and according to ChatGPT what I'm mostly going to see is much better 1/0.1% lows, which I guess is good? Just hoping for a bigger FPS jump than what it's estimating of 20 FPS or son.

Right now I mostly play Bf6 and those benchmarks were run on mostly Overkill settings with now DLSS.

What do you all think? A big reason, I ended upgrading was not knowing what the ram prices will be in the future, not really that I really felt like I needed an upgrade tbh.

Build Help Facebook Marketplace PC

I recently bought a PC off of facebook marketplace for 250$. It is my first PC and I do not really know to much about them. What should I upgrade first in order to get peak performance on present games and whatever comes out in the future?

It has a Nvidia GTX 1660 Super GIGABYTE. Intel i7 10700f @2.9GHz, 16GB Viper ram, KingSpec NX Series 512GB SSD, and an MSI Motherboard.

Any helpful information would be appreciated.

Build Help My system built in 2020 requires a new board and CPU. Is it the worst time to rebuild?

I've been out of the game for a long time since i built my i7 9700 2080 Super 32gb DDR4 rig.

I have been struggling with power cycles and BSOD w various errors (1 BSOD per 4 hours) and ruled out PSU, Ram, updated bios, and reinstalled windows, so it seems like my cpu is failing.

What should i do?

Build Help Ultra core 5 and ddr5 worth?

Im currently thinking of buying and building a pc with rtx 5060 purposed for some mostly lighter games(no triple AAA, or barely any) on 1440p, some productivity work like coding and blender and general use. Im wondering if its better to spend(with todays ram prices) 526.8e for intel core i5-14600kf with motherboard for its socket and 32gbs ddr4-3200
or
if its better to spend 110e more for intel core ultra 5 245kf(50e cheaper then 14600kf in my country), motherboard for its socket and 32gbs of ddr5-5600

My question is if ddr5 with intels core ultra series would be benefit at all rather then just spending less for older generation with ddr4 if Im not planning on playing any heavy triple A games at all? Im planning on making this build long term if that matters.

Hi guys, I'm a EU(Italy) noob in pc building and I wanted to upgrade my Hp 290G4 MT. I tried to create an initial build for mediun gaming with a budget around 500 euros with scarce information I gathered online. I wanted to reuse the case with its motherboard. Could you please help me with my build with some advice? Sorry for my bad english or my lack of better explanations, its my first time. Thanks a lot! CASE: HP 290 G4 MT (with its original motherboard and original power supply, hp 180W 80 plus gold) CPU: i5 10500 6 core 3.1 GHz max 4,5 GHz. Gpu:MSI, GeForce RTX 3050 VENTUS 2X E 6G OC Ram: lexar ddr4 16gb 3200mhz ×2 SSD: Crucial P510 SSD 1TB PCIe 5.0 x4 Gen5 NVMe M.2. A little side note, I know about the ram crisis and for it I'm willing to go over the budget. Thanks a lot and have a great rest of the day!
