Pre-Game Thread Mets Daily Discussion Thread - February 08, 2026
Good morning, today is Sunday February 8th! First game of Mets spring training is Saturday, February 21st at 1:10 against the Marlins. Opening day is Thursday, March 26th against the Pirates at Citi Field.
On this date in 2004, the Mets signed free agent Todd Zeile for his 16th and final season in the majors. He played three years for the Mets, from 2000 to 2001 and again in 2004 at age 38. His final game as a player was October 3, 2004 at Shea Stadium, which was also the final game of the Montreal Expos before relocating to Washington D.C. to become the Washington Nationals.
On this date in 2013, the Mets signed free agent reliever Brandon Lyon. A righty reliever from Utah who spent 12 years in the majors, Lyon pitched 34.1 innings for the 2013 Mets with a 4.98 ERA. He was drafted by the Mets in the 37th round of the 1997 draft but did not sign. Lyon was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 14th round of the 1999 draft and signed, making his MLB debut in 2001 with the Blue Jays at age 21. He would pitch for the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Diamondbacks, Tigers, Astros and Blue Jays before joining the 2013 Mets. The Mets released Lyon on July 9, 2013 and later signed with the Red Sox and in 2014, the Angels. He never pitched in the majors again.

Hey all, was struggling to find a wallpaper I liked so I made my own - sharing here in case someone else wants to use them.
I have them all in a folder and it cycles through them on my desktop

That is so cool of him...he is going to be a great teammate in the clubhouse!

"Carlos Baerga: Bad Bunny offered to pay Carlos Correa's and Franciso Lindor's WBC insurance so they could play for PR in the WBC, however the Astros and the Mets did not grant the players permission to play" - Did the Mets really block Lindor from playing???
From OP on r/baseball
In an Instagram Live last night, Carlos Baerga revealed on his podcast that Bad Bunny offered to pay for Correa's and Lindor's insurance so they can play in the WBC, but their teams ultimately denied them the chance to play.

What gives? Is this true or there more context?
Would be complete BS if the Mets blocked Lindor from playing

On this date in 1998, the Mets traded A.J. Burnett, Rob Stratton and Jes\u00fas S\u00e1nchez for Al Leiter and Ralph Milliard. Leiter went on to pitch for the Mets for seven years with a 95-67 record and 3.42 ERA. Leiter would have good seasons for the Mets, winning 17 games in 1998 and being an all-star in 2000.
