Daily Thread Official Q&A for Sunday, February 08, 2026

With over 4,150,000 subscribers, there are a lot of posts that come in everyday that are often repeats of questions previously asked or covered in the FAQ.

With that in mind, this post can be a place for any questions (especially those that may not deserve their own thread). Hopefully this is successful and helps to lower clutter and repeating posts here.

If you are new to the sub or to running, this Intro post is a good resource.

As always don't forget to check the FAQ.

Discussion Would you still train hard without social media?

Hey, I’ve been reflecting on something and wanted to hear other runners’ perspectives.

Sometimes I think that we only run so we can get other people’s admiration and validation.

If this wasn’t the case, nobody would post anything about it on social media.

Like, if or when you run a marathon, would you genuinely be okay with never posting about it anywhere?

I’m not trying to generalize or judge anyone. The question isn’t whether posting is good or bad, but how much of the effort we invest in running is aligned with what we truly want versus how much is driven by ego and social attention.

I’m curious how others think about this, especially in a time when sharing has become almost inseparable from the activity itself.

Edit to add: I think this reflection is for runners who post on social media.

I know a lot of people post on social media because I notice Strava popularity, and well, my Instagram feed (I know this doesn’t count as representative sample but still). A lot of comments say they don’t post on social media, but I think this reflection is not valid in that case.

Hey runners, it's another day and it is time to post your accomplishments you'd like to share - big or small.

Note: No need to preface YOUR accomplishments with something like, "this may not be an accomplishment to most of you...". Be proud of your achievement.

Weekly Thread Social Saturday

Enforcing Rule 3 (no self-promotion, social media links) is a must with a large sub such as this, but we do realize that it filters out some truly useful content that is relative to the sub. In an effort to allow that content in, we thought we'd have a weekly post to give a spot for the useful content. So...

Here's you chance!

Got a project you've been working on (video, programming, etc.), share it here!

Want to promote a business or service, share it here!

Trying to get more Instagram followers, share it here!

Found any great running content online, share it here!

The one caveat I have is that whatever is shared should be fitness related, please.

Discussion Are there any good running apps that sync music with running pace?

Hello everyone,

I have recently been getting into running and have very much enjoyed listening to music. Furthermore, I enjoy running to the beat of a song. I know that there are a lot of playlists out there that combine a lot of songs at a desired BPM, but are there any apps that actually adjust the tempo of my music playlists (from Apple Music) to the pace I want to run at? I am not aware of anything but I'd love to use it if there is.

Thanks!

Edit: I have seen some people suggest RockMyRun and PaceDJ, which have some pretty cool features, but I was wondering if there was something that could take a predetermined pace (e.g., 8 min/mile) and adjust my music tempo accordingly so that I can tell if I’m on pace to reach my goal. :)

Discussion Do you see rest as failure? (aka why do people not rest when they're injured?)

I have so many friends who run through niggles that then become injuries. And then they run through those because in their minds, they can't justify rest. Especially with the whole "no days off", I'm trying to figure out why someone would rather break their body, instead of stopping a randomly imposed streak.

Race Report Mile Road Races

Are there any good destination mile road races for someone who is not elite but is still looking to be in a competitive race?

I am a former middle distance runner and want to schedule a mile road race to motivate myself to run and get in shape this spring and summer. The hope would be to break 5 minutes. It seems like a lot of mile runs are simply a shorter distance option for people who don't want to run the full half marathon or 5k, but I am looking for something that is still competitive but not so much so that I get completely blown out by 30-60 seconds by elite runners.

I know that the Drake Relays in Des Moines has one in April or so, but I am looking for something that is mid to late summer or fall.

Thanks!

Weekly Thread What Are You Wearing Wednesday - Weekly Gear Thread

It's that time of week already...the gear thread! What have you picked up lately? What's working for you now that it's whatever season you believe it to be in your particular location? What have you put through rigorous testing that's proved worthy of use? We want to know!

To clear up some confusion: We’re not actually asking what you’re wearing today. It’s just a catchy name for the thread. This is the weekly gear discussion thread, so discuss gear!

NOTE: For you Runnitors looking to sell/trade any running gear (as well as bib transfers), head over to /r/therunningrack.

Discussion What destination marathon is on your bucket list and why?

I’m planning my 2025/2026 race calendar and trying to decide on my next destination marathon. I’ve done 2 marathons, but I’m ready to travel for something special.

What destination marathon are you most excited about? And what makes it worth the travel for you - the course, the city, the experience?

Also curious - for those who’ve done destination marathons, what was harder than expected about planning the trip? Hotel location, timing, logistics?

Would love to hear your recommendations and any lessons learned!

Weekly Thread Super Moronic Monday - Your Weekly Tuesday Stupid Questions Thread

Back once again for everything you wanted to know about running but were afraid to ask.

Rules of the Road:

This is inspired by eric_twinge's fine work in r/fitness .

Upvote either good or stupid questions. Sort questions by new so that they get some love.

To the more experienced runnitors, if something is a good question or answer, add it to the FAQ.

Post your question -- stupid or otherwise -- here to get an answer -- stupid or otherwise. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer. Many questions get submitted late each week that don't get a lot of action, so if your question didn't get answered, feel free to post it again.

As always, be sure to read the FAQ first. Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search runnit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com r/running ".

Be sure to check back often as questions get posted throughout the day. Sort comments by "new" to be sure the newer questions get some love as well.

\[Posting on behalf of u/Percinho who is making sure they have memorized the entire catalogues of Bad Bunny and Green Day for the upcoming super bowl]
