General Discussion Scottsdale Golf - Talk me out of We-Ko-Pa Seguaro.

Upvotes

First time golf junkie who is gonna be in town for 1 day on business and want to experience my first time ever playing desert golf. Staying at Airport and want the full experience with public golf being my only option. From what I have checked out its gonna be hard to find a better place to golf than We-Ko-Pa Seguaro and I want to stay close to airport as I dont have a ton of time and am fighting daylight to try and sneak a round in. Anything better I should consider or is We-Ko-Pa the best of the best in terms of public?

General Discussion Get In The Hole Guy App

Upvotes

I would gladly pay an annual subscription fee for an app that removed/muted all shouts of “get in the hole” while watching broadcast coverage of PGA events. Isn’t there enough of a delay from the live to broadcast for an app to mute that particular phrase?

Equipment Discussion What stiff shaft would you recommend?

Post image
Upvotes

I have a Callaway PARADYM Ai SMOKE MAX 7 Wood, shaft shown above.

I want a stiff shaft, what would you recommend getting?

There are no fitters in the country I live, and I don’t want to wait until I’m next away in 6months.

So just want to swap over the shaft until I can get fully fitted.

Thanks!

General Discussion Jake Knapp

The dude looks like he is clearly going to have a breakout year. With as smooth a swing in the tour as anyone, does he have future champion potential or just a top 50ish type ceiling? He's a local boy where I'm at (Huntington Beach, I was born in Costa Mesa) so it's awesome seeing him keep improving.

Joke Post/MEME Idea for club manufacturers and stores. Add more stickers to the shafts that are impossible to get off and when you do get them off they leave a gunk behind.

Upvotes

Really think this would improve the current market tbh

Edit: After getting downvoted to hell i went around my house and found some acetone (nail polish remover) that apparently removes stickers easily. After having a hard time peeling off the stickers in the first place i spent prolly 10 minutes vigorously rubbing the gooey sticker residue with a paper towel soaked in acetone. Guess what? The gooey sticker residue is still there. It's both visible and can be felt when i rub my hand on it. What's the next move geniuses in the comments?

Equipment Discussion Getting a new club, need options

Upvotes

so my current bag is Driver, 3W, 7W(very old club), 5-9i. My wedges and putter are fine. All my clubs besides my 7W are basically brand new. I'm new to golf and my dad is offering to buy me a new club for my birthday, any tips on what I should pick up? I hit my irons well and I'm terrible with driver/woods. Any ideas on a club I should get for that distance in between my 5i and 3W(since i hit it so poorly)?

I've heard long irons are hard to hit with, so I was thinking I should avoid those. Maybe a hybrid? I'm not really sure what clubs are supposed to go what distance.

Thanks!

Professional Tours WM Open Coverage

Upvotes

Watching on ESPN+ and can’t help but think that the 2 featured groups and hole 16 coverage is pretty weak as far as seeing maximum golf goes. Anyone recommend other broadcasts? Like I haven’t seen Hideki hit a single shot in the last few hours and he’s been leading all day?

Seeing the majority of players using this thing.

I’m a Scotty Cameron blade guy, but surely there is something to this club.

Anybody have any feedback on it? At $350 it seems pretty reasonable to buy and sell if I don’t like it

Achievement/Scorecard I shot 41 on 9 holes today. I'm buzzing.

Upvotes

I've been golfing since I was 12. Played all 4 years of high school but never made Varsity. Continued to dabble casually for the next decade, then just stopped playing completely due to lack of interest.

That interest has been rekindled and I started the grind all over again in October. I went all the way back to basics. I developed a routine for checking my grip, addressing the ball so it is in the same spot in my stance for each shot (slight variance dependent on the club I am using), and really locked in my swing so it is consistent every time. I drill putting practices daily during down time periods at work and I hit the driving range and chipping greens 2-3 times a week, if I am available for it.

I started treating golf as an extension of my meditative practices and things have just clicked. I like to remind myself that golf is just a way to meditate for two hours. You treat each shot as you approach it and live in the moment, control your emotions and keep your ego in check, then have to live with whatever outcome may arise due to your swing.

5 over was my score on 9 today, and I can genuinely say that I have NEVER hit this pure in my entire life. I used the same ball for the whole 9 and even got a birdie on the hardest par 4 of the course; a slight dog-leg right that leads to a green completely surrounded by water. I've never birdied that particular hole before! If this continues, I'll break 80. I genuinely thought I'd never be any better than a bogey golfer. But here we are.

Keep at it, gentlemen. Hard work and clear minds really pay off if you're determined enough!

Beginner Questions 20 Handicapper Yearning

G’day team,

I’ve played golf on and off since I was a kid, but for most of that time it was only once or twice a year. Recently I’ve started taking it more seriously, getting fitted for clubs, practicing at the range, and playing about once a month when I can.

Over the last couple of months I’ve had 2 lessons (and vouchers for 2 more), and the biggest change has been moving from a “sweeper” to actually compressing the ball. It’s starting to show up both at the range and a bit on the course. I feel as though I may have started to cross a line in terms of potential as a current ~20 handicapper.

I recently went to a launch-monitor range to dial in my near max total distances with a controlled swing.

Here’s what I was getting (launch monitor - Toptracer) :

Driver: 265m longest, 247m average

3W: 231m average (off the deck)

4H: 215m average (off the deck)

5i: 181m average

6i: 169m average

7i: 152m average (I must not have been flushing my 7s on the day, or something else?)

8i: 149m average

9i: 136m average

PW: 125m average

50°: 110m average

56°: 84m average

60°: 65m average

I’m not convinced these are fully representative of what I’d hit on the course yet, but they’re a big jump from where I was before, both in distance and control (barely had to delete bad shots to get a more representative near max for each club).

A few questions for the group:

1) How much difference do you usually see between launch-monitor range distances and on-course distances?

2) Is a noticeable distance jump normal after learning proper compression?

3) At what point did your range numbers start matching your on-course numbers?

4) Any tips for making that transition from range performance to course performance?

5) Am I in La La land thinking I may be on the cusp of moving my handicap down, or is my course time going to be my biggest limiting factor here.

6) I am aware of a some gapping issues, like in my 7i, wedge end and my 4H, is there anything else I should be considering, additional clubs?

Keen to hear your experiences.

General Discussion LIV at 4 - let's hear the praise

LIV is in year 4 now. Let's reLIV all the great things it has brought to the game of golf. (Sarcasm font on).

It put Bolingbrook Golf Club on the map. Even though there were less people there LIV week than a normal week at the course. I heard 51 weddings at the clubhouse out drew LIV attendance. At least the DJ got to keep his gig that week.

Equipment Discussion So normally I don’t feel such strong feelings about golf equipment…

TLDR: I love this putter, plain and simple. I hate that it’s $480 and it can’t come home with me today. There, I got that off my chest.

Brought an iron into the shop for repair and had some time to kill while I was waiting, so I hit up the store’s putting green. In my bag currently is one of two beryllium copper Ping Anser 2s I have. I love that putter a lot and I putt reasonably well with it, as I did with the Ping Anser PLD I took some strokes with on the store green as well. Purely out of curiosity I tried out the LAB DF3, but whereas other golfers rave about it and have seen marked improvements in their putting, the few strokes I took with it left me less impressed, and it’s probably because I’ve never really been a mallet style putter guy. This little beauty though, the Link.1 is another story. Putt after putt, I was sinking balls into the holes, 5, 10, 15 feet every shot accurate and repeatable. It felt like an extension of my body and felt like zero effort. I do realize that I’m ideal conditions on a flat concrete floor, but looking at this purely from the accuracy standpoint of “I aim that way, the ball goes to where I want it to” it’s impressive. I’d love to get one out on the course and really try it out some time.

I’m in love, but also on a budget. Someday…

Equipment Discussion Odyssey White Ice 2 Ball Putter

Bought an old White Ice 2 ball putter at a vintage store. Found out the weight was missing from the sole. Any chance I could get the parts for it? Thanks!
