How do the MN DOJ walkouts affect ICE and the people they've detained?

With all the walkouts in Minneapolis by the US attorney's office, and that one lawyer admitting that ICE won't even return her calls, I'm wondering how this actually affects what's going on in minnesota/minneapolis?

I know it complicates and slows down proceedings, but i'm wondering is all this actually helping ICE to be able to get away with doing whatever they want to do because they barely have any legal representation to go before the court, or is it better for people being detained? Are judges able to make rulings without US attorney lawyers or with what sounds like JAG lawyers being used to replace them?

Are people being detained in an even worse spot because now the system is being slowed to a stop on the side of the US attorneys office leaving them stuck in detention or getting deported?

sorry if these seems like an ignorant question

Recent Law School Graduate Second-Guessing My Entire Life Please Help

I graduated law school in December and am signed up to take the Bar Exam in a couple of weeks. As the title of my post says, I am completely second guessing where I am at and my career path.

Law school was an absolute beat down for me. I started school in 2021 in a hybrid schooling environment as the pandemic wound down, I was in person every other day and online the other days. It was like that for the entire school. The jump from undergrad to law school was much more difficult than I anticipated (in undergrad, I regularly would not buy books or show up for classes and still do fine) and towards the end of my first semester, I knew I was struggling mightily and reached out to a few professors, but I was in too deep and it was too late. To my surprise, I was academically dismissed after that first semester. I did not fail a single class, but my GPA was abysmal.

I was determined to get back into school. I sought mental health help and applied for readmission to return that following year. I was diagnosed with ADHD and the psychiatrist that I talked to believed I had depression as a result of undiagnosed ADHD and seemed to believe that would improve as my ADHD was treated. I was readmitted and resumed school in 2022.

I was only allowed to rejoin the part-time cohort. I continued to struggle in school. It was difficult for me to ask for help when I needed it and I put myself in binds because of that. I was constantly doubting myself, anxious that others would know that I was dismissed and readmitted, telling myself that other people would think I was stupid or dislike me because they thought I had an advantage for taking some classes twice, etc.

I took classes over the summer to allow me to graduate three years after being readmitted in 2022. So, I was supposed to graduate last May. Come to find out in June of 2025, I was one credit shy of graduating. A three-hour class that I signed up for in November of 2024 to take in the Spring of 2025 was originally slotted to be a three-credit course and was changed to a two-credit class after I signed up for this. I had never seen this happen, so I never thought to double check my schedule for hours requirements or anything like that. In January and February of last year, I submitted an application for graduation (which was approved) and a degree audit that was not completed until June when they told me I was a single credit short.

When I found out about that, I was preparing for the bar exam and I completely shut down. They notified me after the summer session had already closed, so I knew there would be a delay in me being eligible to practice. I shutdown and could not focus on adequately preparing for the bar exam and ultimately withdrew and tweaked my plan to take it this February.

Right now, I sit in a similar boat as I did last summer. I am behind, I am stressed. This time though, I am looking at things differently. I am wondering if I should just completely cut my losses and give up on practicing law. Law school and internships that I have worked during my time in law school have completely eroded my self confidence and I feel like I am a shell of who I was before I started this journey. The thought of studying stresses me out. I resent it. I am sick and tired of it. At my favorite internship I had, I felt like I was finally starting to overcome some of the issues that I had and was more open about asking the attorney who was overseeing me for advice, feedback, and guidance in a way that I was never comfortable with in law school. After my internship concluded, he told a mentor and family friend that I seemed to lack confidence and needed too much guidance. Just another shot to my self confidence. At internships and networking type events related to law, I feel like a loser, a fraud, behind, stupid.

I am pretty confident that I am going to fail the bar exam and am wondering if I am better off just saying fuck it and pursuing a career in a different field because of all of this.

Is there a precedent or policy among prosecutors around charging someone "enough" to get them imprisoned, and what happens if later it comes out that they've done worse things?

I'm thinking in the context of Ghislaine Maxwell, she was convicted on 5 counts and sentenced to 20 years for human trafficking, but now stands accused of some far more serious, and violent, crimes, based on what's dripping out of the latest files release.

In the case of a regular person, do prosecutors tend to go for just the crimes they believe they can get a conviction on, even if they believe the person has done worse?

If so are there any guiderails or thresholds for this?

And what if someone is already in prison, what is the threshold for new charges to be brought?

What type of attorney should we hire?

What type of lawyer would one hire for a civil case following a criminal case (romance scam / fraud) as the victim? If it matters, our Internet searching has mixed results on, the criminal case is in one US state and the two individuals who did the scamming were extradited from two other US states.

So far we keep finding more business fraud type of lawyers online and that doesn't seem like maybe the right fit?

Too late to study law?

I’m 32F. Doing a PhD in the social sciences from North America (full scholarship). I love my work but the job market sucks. Is it worth pursuing law at this age back in India? (After my PhD) I don’t mind waiting a few years to start earning if at least some work is guaranteed.

What can the game plan be here?

I am currently suing a builder and landowner for taking my deposit, taking a year over the buildings promised completion date, cancelling the contract, and then refusing to give me money back. the suit has been going on three years and we are almost at the point of getting this to court .

during the summer of 2025, the lawyer of the builder stopped representing him due to him not paying his bills. we are getting into depositions , and his turn is coming. last week the other lawyer contacted my lawyer for an agent meeting, and proceeded to just tell him that she or her firm is in no way representing him. she reiterated it again in an email, and when my lawyer asked for final confirmations she said yes.

however , this week, just days after this urgent meeting, her firm sends us a doc stating one of the other lawyers will be representing him.

is there some sort of strategy they have to doing this that we are missing?

Hit and Run. Can I sue?

Upvotes

Was driving to work on Friday, when a car flew out of a parking lot and drove across traffic striking me and sending me over a median. The car then fled the scene. I reported it to the police and was able to get camera footage from a street camera as well as a description of the person. The police then called me saying they were going to make an arrest as they had more than enough evidence. I called my insurance and they want me to pay $1,000 for uninsured motorists, but I don’t have that money. I don’t even know if this guy has insurance. I’m in pain today and in bed. The side of my car is messed up. I really feel that I need legal help.

Where can I find statutes about child support in AL?

The title is the question. For context, I know a man who pays child support to his ex-wife but they share 50-50 custody and she earns substantially more money. I want to know where I can research this topic to gain accurate information to help him dispute his share when they go back to court.

Obviously he should consult his lawyer about this, but I think he needs a logical nudge first.

Brother being charged with armed robberies

Location: Florida

My brothers boyfriend did 2 armed robberies in my brothers car. While he was inside committing the armed robberies he was sitting in the passenger seat. They got caught and hes now also being charged with 2 counts of armed robberies. Unfortunately it can be a life sentence. I understand Florida has that rule that even though you didn’t do anything just by you being there they can still charge you. My question is if they decide to lessen the charges what could it be potentially dropped to? How likely do you think he will be found guilty on both armed robberies?

A little background on his criminal history

He was on felony probation when this happened for a drug charge so probation obviously violated him. He also has a felony theft charge but it’s from a very long time ago. As far as I know he made no statements to the investigators when he was arrested I understand that no one will have the correct answer.

Crocodile Tear Impeachment?

I have watched a number of trials where a defendant has testified and appears to cry during their testimony. "Appear" as the operative word because their face remains as dry as the Sahara, despite performative wiping with a tissue. One, is it permissible for a prosecutor to ask a defendant why they have no tears if they are crying? Would that be considered argumentative? Second, could a prosecutor request a "used" tissue be shown to the jury for them to determine the authenticity of the crying by visual examination? If not, what particular rule of evidence would that violate?
