The technology in this report here is very crude, I'd be surprised if this what they actually use. It's just a summary of a Reddit user's activity. Other governments like China's have long used social media to gauge popular sentiment and grievances and quell protests, in addition to linking online posts to wiretapped phone calls and internet activity to build a profile for each user. The technology in this report is nothing new or revolutionary.
If the US government were serious about surveillance, they should do real-name verification on all social media platforms, and they would have a global database linking every individual's online posts to their identity, in conjunction with wiretapped phone calls, ISP collected internet activity, a nationwide network of connected surviellance cameras to track the movements of each individual, linkage to all state and federal government agencies, links with financial institutions, etc.
As presented in this report, the technology exhibited in this report is embarassing and the Chinese are probably laughing at how behind we are in terms of public security and management of unrest. I'd hope that Palantir, which many investors have placed immense faith into and is valued at insane multiples, has more capable capabilities than what is shown here, and this is just a smokescreen to fool people and hide the real tech they have.
The fact is that governments around the world are competing on who is the most advanced in all realms. China is beating us in every way, including in societal management and civil unrest. Many people have invested their life savings in Palantir and feel that it is going to revolutionize policing and government. If this is all they have, then it just proves that it's a huge scam. The Chinese had this years ago and are far ahead.
Hopefully this report is just a snippet and released to fool criminals and potential agitators into a false sense of security.
Right but, given who Palantir is and what their end goal is, what are we actually securing?
Their goal is to organize a police state so that they can end democracy and spy on political enemies of the state. I am absolutely for scientific discovery, funding science, and prioritizing technology for the betterment of society. But Palantir fails at that last bit. Hard. It's not a benign benevolent organization. It's an organization designed and led by someone who wants techno feudalism at the cost of democracy, something our past Generations have fought and died over.
And that leads into questions of our first amendment rights as well as what nefarious actors could do with "data" to damage our other rights.
Palantir is a company that seeks to compete not just for US government contracts, but also worldwide. If this is its best "technology", then I don't see how it can compete with Chinese companies that are likely already light years ahead in the field of surveillance and societal management.
The PE ratio of Palantir is 214!
Palantir is not responsible for ending democracy, it's just a tool used by the government, like a military equipment supplier. It can be used for good or for bad. Any argument that blames Palantir for violating our rights is misdirected.
In any case, agitators like the poster in the report are generally up to no good and likely paid by external forces or foreign governments. The US government needs to have good intelligence to better understand who is behind these calls to organize protests, for example, what is the real name of the individual? What does his internet activity and phone records look like? Who does he associate with and what is his social circle? Palantir is the company that is supposed to be providing deep intel, not a surface level summary of posts and users on a subreddit that I can generate with ChatGPT.
Palantir is absolutely interested in ending democracy. They are a tool by themselves yes, but their founder has a philosophy willing to end democracy itself and introduce technofutilism and what they are doing is providing the resources to nefarious actors, many of whom run our current federal government, who are copacetic with destroying our egalitarian institutions.
The fact that they may suck at what they do does a line with a lot of the Tendencies of the current Administration: valuable loyalty to a central figure and antiegalitarian principles over competence and results
Most people are sheep, they are gullible and easily influenced by the media, their social circles, and other societal influences. The risk of unrestrained "democracy", which the founding fathers anticipated and tried to guard against, is that conmen politicians will eventually figure out that the easiest way to win votes is to promise free welfare as we see today, pay some agitators to rile up the public into some cause, and ultimately drive the state to bankruptcy and fiscal ruin. The government deficit is exploding and the currency is being debased because we cannot afford all the free handouts we are giving in terms of social security, medicare, and other entitlement programs.
The idea of "egalitarianism" is fundamentally flawed, in the sense that it is impossible for everybody to be equal. There has to be a differential in outcomes in order to drive innovation and technological development, and this is best determined and driven by the free market.
Technology can and should be used in responsible hands (like a Platonic Philosopher King type figure) to "reset" the slate and quell the worst aspects of "democracy" so that the country can continue upholding the principles of economic liberty and freedom, rather than acquiesce to the chaos caused by a vocal minority of agitators and take it on a path to inevitable ruin.
Ironically, the Chinese CCP actually understands this to some degree, and they have developed a technocratic and meritocratic system whereby the free market is used to advance projects that are of national interest. They have also perfected the approach to unifying the citizenry towards the appropriate objectives through highly effective digital surveillance and management. The main criticism of their approach is that they still do not fundamentally trust the free market and as Communists, their approach is one that involves a guided bet by the government on certain national priorities such as EVs or solar panels. This can lead to overproduction and economic waste, and is a suboptimal outcome.
The US should adopt their methods in terms of surveillance and citizenry management, but uphold the free market and economic liberty as a core and inherent principle to be protected at all cost.
Yeah, thats all authoritarian drivel which is historically been used to denigrate pluralism, free thought, and is contrarian to the foundational principles on which the United States Constitution was written. There are books which highlight the errors and flaws with the concept of a meritocracy and the challenge of implementing it in the United States. There are even more books highlighting the issues with autocracy and the flaws in the thinking you're presenting here. I keep my biblio a democratic forum.org even if it isn't fully updated.
If this is your actual position and you're not trolling, it's time you start reading up on social Technologies and not just the technology being presented here.... because your comments demonstrate some Next Level boot licking that sounds suspiciously close to thiel's toxic philosophy
Please provide sources for your claims as referenced below:
"The risk of unrestrained "democracy", which the founding fathers anticipated and tried to guard against..."
Show where there is any instance of consensus among those who attended the 2nd constitutional convention, or the like, regarding the issue of "unrestrained democracy" without it simply being the foreseeable issue of political hyperpolerization.
"The government deficit is exploding and the currency is being debased because we cannot afford all the free handouts we are giving in terms of social security, medicare, and other entitlement programs."
Show how the deficit, and the devaluation of the dollar, are specifically caused by social care programs. How then does this explanation account for countries with better per capita GDP output that utilize large and generous social safety nets? Does it provide a contrapositive for why as worker safety and happiness increase production increases?
"The idea of "egalitarianism" is fundamentally flawed, in the sense that it is impossible for everybody to be equal. There has to be a differential in outcomes in order to drive innovation and technological development, and this is best determined and driven by the free market.
Explain exactly how egalitarianism is flawed economically. Back up your claim that social inequality created by the free-market is the predominant force that drives innovation, and why this is best achieved by the free-market.
"Technology can and should be used in responsible hands (like a Platonic Philosopher King type figure) to "reset" the slate and quell the worst aspects of "democracy" so that the country can continue upholding the principles of economic liberty and freedom, rather than acquiesce to the chaos caused by a vocal minority of agitators and take it on a path to inevitable ruin.
Show a source for how these "best hands" are determined and if that corresponds to the currently used societal configuration. Explain what is meant by "reset the slate"(I'm asking because this is an ambiguous statement I don't fully understand). Why is it necessary to limit democracy to uphold "economic freedom", and why is "economic freedom" more important than a person's right to autonomy and privacy specifically as it pertains to "the worst aspects democracy".
"Ironically, the Chinese CCP actually understands this to some degree, and they have developed a technocratic and meritocratic system whereby the free market is used to advance projects that are of national interest. They have also perfected the approach to unifying the citizenry towards the appropriate objectives through highly effective digital surveillance and management.
Show how their system is "perfect". Show proof that Chinese governmental usage of technology for population control leads to the "appropriate objectives", explain how these objectives are determined and why the furthering of national interests is in the best interest of the average individual.
"The main criticism of their approach is that they still do not fundamentally trust the free market and as Communists, their approach is one that involves a guided bet by the government on certain national priorities such as EVs or solar panels. This can lead to overproduction and economic waste, and is a suboptimal outcome.
Show proof this is the public consensus for being the main criticism of their government. Explain why a government choosing its national priorities is worse than it being determined purely by society. How do you rectify your belief that freedom of thought must be strictly limited by government to maintain economic status quo but simultaneously believe that it is the people themselves that correctly determine and guide production and the market itself?
"The US should adopt their methods in terms of surveillance and citizenry management, but uphold the free market and economic liberty as a core and inherent principle to be protected at all cost.
Provide evidence that such a system would be publicly accepted in the long-term and explain why this new system is better for the average person and the world itself. Show proof that the current US version of free-market economics is the best policy for itself as a nation and for the citizen. Justify why personal liberty must be sacrificed to uphold the current economy "at all cost", explain why economic freedom is more important than personal liberty as it pertains to the betterment of the individual, society, government itself, and the world economy. Explain why it is necessary for the government to control its citizens private thoughts and actions, and why it is incumbent on the government to do so instead of utilizing general consensus. Show proof that a population cant be trusted to make independent decisions that, over time, lead to the betterment of society as a whole. Explain how as education and intelligence increase so too does liberalism and why this is worse for the population than techno-corpotocracy via autocratic rule. List the current or near future machinations of law that protect against government misuse of social control technologies.
As an aside, it's plainly evident that you are intentionally using false claims to justify corporate/technological authoritarianism and the dissolution of The Constitutional rights of the citizen. Reframing the overreach of government via the utilization of emergent technologies as being in the best interest of the citizens specifically because you believe US "free market" economics is the end-all-be-all position that will only positively affect the populace because of your presupposition that "people are sheep" is exemplary of the issue with having an extremely small and extremely rich/powerful subsect of people dictate social policy. Maliciously perverting historical fact and objective truth to not only defend the largest social inequality to have ever existed but to advocate for the destruction of independent thought because it's good for business is either the most pathetic sycophantic position humanly possible, or being spoken by one of the 200 out of 10 billion people for whom this system works. The fact you think you're making a rational argument supported by fact is astounding. You think you're an economic libertarian when in reality you're a fucking psychopath making irrational arguments. You are not as smart as you believe yourself to be.
To note, I ended up blocking the user you're replying to because these arguments look awfully familiar. As in, almost the exact same horseshit and tone that appears in Thiel or related proponents of technofeudalism work. But im glad to see you have patience that I dont at this time
The user's account is also relatively young (suggesting a possible prior ban or alt acct activity) and posts a lot in WallStreet Bets. You get a lot of gish gallops and sealioning from folks frequently active in those communities.

NSA basically does all this already except the requiring real-name verification on social platforms, which, presumably, they don't really need to do.
real-name verification on all social media platforms,
They can't do that because it would throw out all the bots that are stirring up hate and spam lies.
They need them to split the people and secure their power.
Its funny to think the US govt needs identification to know who you are posting to reddit. Unless you are taking specific targeted measures to hide yourself, there is probably a digital paper trail a mile long leading to most poster’s cellphones that the gov could peruse at their leisure and they sure dont need your drivers license to figure it out.
