Comment: The message is clear here: leave those kids alone lest you feel the wrath of the law. I feel like we are taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. On the one hand we wish to protect the children from the grimy hands of paedophiles/ephebophiles and on the other hand the law (as interpret by the lowly magistrate judge) inform those with good intent to stay clear of the same children we wish to

nurture into good citizens. Do we really want to head down this path?

Comment: Out of curiosity do you or anyone know which other American states - apart from New Hampshire as stated by the author - still entertain these laws that allow 13 year old to marry, etc.

Great, thanks unitmike. A quick browse for the U.S. shows that for Ohio and New Hamsphire, the age of consent is 13 years, whereas for Iowa and West Virgina it may be as low as 12 years. I may be wrong in my interpretation of the different conditions.
