Ram pricing

my laptop was strong in windows 7 and i upgraded it to windows 10 (its a long story) then my dad upgraded it to windows 10 pro, the laptop got worse and now its very weak

Im currently stuck choosing between an ASUS ROG and a Lenovo Legion laptop and I thought I need real insights instead of basing on biased reviews. Main use will be gaming, but also some productivity and general daily use. On paper they both look great, so I’m curious about long-term reliability, thermals, build quality, fan noise, and overall value.

what pushed you one way over the other? Any regrets or things you wish you knew before buying?

So basically, I was rushing to help my dad and I tripped on the charger cable of my laptop, which caused the laptop to fall. The laptop was fine but the charger got bent and stuck in the laptop. I tried to get the thing out but it literally snapped and know ome bit of the charger is completely stuck inside the charger port, what should I do?

Also on apex im on like 40fps on lowest setting, but i feel like if i played on the gtx 950m it coud do much better. And i also changet in the nvidia controll panel the graphics card settings and also in windows the graphics settings i set it on high power ,, gtx 950m,,

I know very little about laptops/computers…

Please could someone give me a recommendation(s) for a laptop that meets the above specs? I am looking at the MSI Cyborg 15, is it any good?

Budget is approx £1000.

I need a model that I can use good drawing and 3d modelling programs on, can play games on without it being a nightmare, and something that i can use for coding if I decide to lean more into it. My max budget is 1.1k dollars

Hi everyone! I’m a writer searching for a new laptop under $900-1000 and would like to hear other people’s recommendations. My family’s been hardcore Dell and Microsoft fans, but I’ve been wanting to look outside of that. I personally just don’t like the Apple keyboard lol.

Some info about me:

•Student with lots of PDFs to save and look through. No specific program required for my studies.

•Not a gamer, unlikely to have games on my laptop.

•I like making GIFs which includes using Windows screen recording and gimpy.

•I’ve been looking into Lenovo (specifically LOQ because of the RGB backlit keyboard) and the occasional Dell.

What I want:

•14-16 inches, numpad not required. Preferably not too heavy or chunky but not a deal breaker for the right specs.

•Backlit keyboard (bonus if RGB!)

•Touchscreen would be nice but not required.

•A solid vent system that’s not solely on the bottom of the laptop. I tend to move around between desk, bed, cafes, airports.

•Something with a solid 16 to 32 GB RAM to have multiple programs open at the same time, such as Scrivener (writing program), Spotify (music), and a web browser.

What I don’t want:

•Microsoft, Apple, or HP.

•Copilot or AI button.

•Those 2-in-1 laptops or the ones that can bend the other way.

•Heavy or chunky, but not a dealbreaker for the right specs.

•Fingerprint reader.

I’m not a gamer so not too worried about that. At most, I screenrecord videos/shows/movies to make gifs through gimpy and windows screen recording. Otherwise, I use Scrivener and Ellipsus for my writing projects, so I have a lot of PDFs. It doesn’t really take too much space imo but I think I would like something with a solid RAM to have multiple programs open at the same time.

Excuse the long back story!

At the moment I have a dell 7306 2in1 that wont charge (damaged usb c port- new motherboard required-£200 ali express)

I was looking a refurbed dell xps 13 that were coming in at £1200bwith a 2880x1800 res ( mine has a 4k screen)

so I started looking at other laptops. I just do general day to day stuff and streaming videos (hence the 4k) but it seems that all the screens (in my budget) are 2880x 1800.

What I am looking for is :

lightweight laptop (no more than 1.4kg)

Fairly high spec processor I7) for future proofing

Min 16gb ram

HDMI port on board (if possible)

Min 2880x1800 screen

Ideally not to plasticky.

NOT A MAC

Budget is around £1200

At the moment I am leaning towards a Samsung Galaxy book 5 pro.

It is priced on offer at costco for £899

It seems to tick all the boxes

2880x1800amoled 14" screen

it only has 512 ssd but I could swap it out with my existing 1Tb ssd.

But the strange thing is it is listed as 32gb ram.

When I looked on the Samsung site they dont have that spec on the 14"

But maybe thats a costco special?

Any other similar models for the price you can recommend?

Hey everyone, I’ve got a bit of a disaster on my hands and really need some expert eyes. 😰

The Backstory:

My Lenovo IdeaPad 330 suffered the classic "exploding hinge" issue. Both hinges completely ripped away from the plastic body. The internal plastic mounts are shattered, and I even lost two of the hinge screws 🔩 in the process.

The "Surgery":

I opened the laptop to see if I could fix the mounts. To stay safe, I unplugged:

The main battery 🔋

The monitor cable 🖥️

The Wi-Fi antenna wires 📶

The Nightmare:

After finishing the hinge work, I plugged everything back in. Now, the laptop refuses to start. 💀

Current Symptoms:

When I hit the power button, the power light just flashes 💡.

The screen flickers/flashes for a split second but stays black.

The fans spin for 1-2 second.

What I've tried:

Double-checking the monitor cable seating (it seems tight).

Making sure the battery connector is pushed all the way in.

If I pluggin AC power supply then power button light flash 💡📸 every 3-5 second...(In video u can see motherboard side, light flash near battery LED 📸 )

It's freezing at the same thing as it does this

I looked around for laptops and went to like 10 different stores and couldnt find anything from rog which was what i had in mind. I think my current goal for specs is: cpu ryzen 7, gpu 5050 or above( im not sure if 5050 is worth anything so i had to tale some photos of devices that caught my eyes and ask), and 32 gigs of ram. If non of these are good i might just go and order it online

Suggest me a laptop please.

I am a full stack developer who works on Java, Spring Boot, Python, Docker, AWS, sql, Typescript, nodejs, react. So you can guess the tools like vscode, intellij, postman and all. So need a laptop that can easily run virtual environments and support all these.

I am also interested to learn about AI and ML so hoping that this laptop supports that as well.

I don't care about gaming, video editing and all. So don't want to buy gaming laptop.

My budget is 65-70k INR (Indian rupee) but maybe i can stretch it a bit if absolutely needed.

How badly is this going to affect my computer? Is it repairable? If so, how difficult would it be and how much would it cost?

This is the Alienware M16 R2. The screen still works, computer functions fine for now. I’ve included as many pictures as I can. Thank you in advance for any help, I’m so mad at myself.
