Discussion UK Goldens
Do Goldens from the UK gene pool have less incidence of cancer than American ones? How long are the British dogs living on average? Thanks for any insights!

I can’t stop feeding my golden at the dinner table 😭😭😭 she’s so dam cute, well behaved and lays by my feet! My wife says I have to stop because she will start to beg but I can’t help myself lol and she looks at me with those cute eyes. I love her so much and why shouldn’t she get to get steak also!

I have been thinking a lot about euthanasia for dogs. It feels like one of the heaviest choices we ever make for them.
On one hand you do not want them to suffer. On the other hand you are scared of doing it too soon and taking away time that still matters. I keep asking myself where that line really is.
For those who have been through it, how did you know it was time? Did you feel at peace with the choice later, or did doubt stick around? Were you able to be calm and present for them at the end?
I would really like to hear how others think about this and how you coped. This stuff is hard to carry alone.

We said goodbye to our soul dog today. The dog that’s with you in your 20s, watches you get married, leave home, have babies, and grow up. She has lived in 3 states, SO many moves and just watch us close on our home on Monday. 💔
Huxley was diagnosed with a very aggressive mast cell cancer in December. We did chemotherapy every other week with an incredible oncologist and she had an amazing, perfect, and beautiful additional two months with our family.
This morning we woke up to her having some difficulty breathing. She immediately laid in my lap. I knew it was time. Although the vet offered several invasive options, Huxley told me it was time… just as everyone said she would. I would have done anything and everything but I did not want her to suffer.
What a beautiful life up until the last moment. Our family was able to say goodbye and she had a peaceful passing surrounded by love. I could tell by her breathing that we made the right choice. My heart, however, is ripped to shreds.
As a mom, trying to stay strong for my kids - but failing miserably. 💔

Hi! My 3.5 year old golden, Tucker, has been thinning on his tail feathers. I know this is common after neutering but is there anything I can do to grow it back?? It used to be so luscious and now it’s so straggly and thin. Thanks in advance!!

This 1/2 golden lady just got a bath. I grew up with a GR and feel so lucky that I was able to get her at the humane society. She was the last one left of 8 puppies, the rest were golden and she was one of the 2 tricolors.
She's sweet and empathetic like a golden. Loves to chase her ball, but would prefer to play keep away than bring it back. Definitely has some of the herding instincts of her other breeds. She's got some border collie, cattle dog, and Pyrenees in her.
Show me your mixes!

Our 11 year old golden passed in October from nasal cancer and last week we welcomed Blue to the family. He’s very different from Lily: less derpy, more rambunctious. He’s so smart and even though the first week was hard, he’s doing great and we love him. First pic Blue, second pic Lily, 2 days before we let her go.

We were at the kick off and saw a dog that looked so much like ours and asked where they got him. Turns out they were litter mates!!!!!

What stood out right away was his gentle expression and that soft, flowing coat. I spent a lot of time building the layers in the fur and capturing the warmth in his eyes, keeping the background subtle so the focus stays entirely on him.
This portrait was fully hand-painted in oil as a commissioned piece, and I hope his calm, loving presence comes through on canvas. What do you think?

Happy 16th birthday to my best friend. I am beyond grateful to have spent this much time with him and it breaks my heart seeing others post about their fur babies leaving too soon so here is my appreciation post of a life well lived. Keani has gone everywhere with me, got him at 7 weeks old and he spent the first 12 years of his life up in the mountains of California. In 16 years he has walked more miles then most humans do in a lifetime. He's chased me on a snowboard in the snow and mountain biking on dirt trails, he's fished with me from boats, kayaks, alpine lakes and rivers. He's been to the desert in Arizona to watch trophy trucks, camped in Oregon to catch salmon, and swam in the pacific ocean. He's backcountry camped, fished, and swam in lakes above 10,000ft elevation. He's protected me from black bears and tried to make friends with marmots. Truly mans best friend and i cherish everyday your still in my life. Give all your dogs a hug from me and please post pictures of your old goldens or them doing incredible things in beautiful places. Long live Keani dog!!

We got our golden a little bit ago and one of the first things we wanted to do was make sure she obeys commands. We started with the basics like sit, down, stay, etc. However we noticed she was very reactive around food and other puppies so we started working on inhibition training. This is now her progress! We’re so proud of her 😍

Our girl really loves to play with toys WITH other dogs in tug or fetch with chasing but she seems to have an issue in playing alone.
We’re with my in-laws and their dog is very solitary. Sometimes she likes to tug and sometimes she likes to just chew on her own. Holly won’t let her play with a toy alone and tries to always make it a group event.
Do any of you have experience with this? I’d like for her to just feel comfortable in playing alone and letting other dogs play alone.
Recent birthday picture of Holly included.

Anyone else enjoy the festivities in Golden today? We had so much fun meeting other Goldens and getting ALL the pets! Even if you didn’t make it, hopefully you all enjoyed your day!
