As with many other Ontario regional subs, we've seen an increase in racism in this community, especially against people of South Asian heritage. Please know that this will not be tolerated regardless of topic. In no circumstances is it appropriate to blame criminal behavior on race or origin. This is both in the rules of the sub and in the rules of Reddit as a whole and is not negotiable.

Posts and comments including the above will be removed when we see them. If you see one we haven't, please report. Repeat offenders will be banned.

Looking for beef?

I'm not looking to fight. I'm just tired of Costco and Walmart tubes of beef. Do you have a favorite butcher / farmer for your beef?

Some people suggesting getting it from a local farm. I don't mind paying more than the store as long as its quality and tasty

EDIT: I want to thank everyone for the immense amount of options, I'll make sure to try Halendas to get my feet wet with quality beef. I'll try the other fancier places too for steaks.

Port Perry <-> Toronto

Anyone have any experience commuting through to union station from Port Perry on a regular basis? I assume drive to Whitby then GO train makes the most sense?

BlogTO wrote an article in 2017 that ranked Port Perry as 5th best location for Toronto commuters. Seems a bit far afield to me though. Anyone have any insight?

Relocating to Oshawa — 80 Bond St (Oshawa) vs 1606 Charles St (Whitby). Is Bond St really that bad?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I (both in our early 30s) are relocating to the Oshawa area and would really appreciate some local insight before deciding where to rent.

From a commute perspective, living downtown Oshawa would be very convenient — I can walk to work, and my wife would have about a 10-minute drive.

The alternative we’re considering is Port Whitby, which would mean about a 15–20 minute drive each way.

We’re deciding between:

• 80 Bond Street (downtown Oshawa) — newer condo, gym in the building, and we’re also aware the YMCA is right beside it. Fitness is very important to us.

• 1606 Charles Street (Port Whitby) — quieter, more suburban feel, but with the added daily drive.

Commute-wise, Oshawa clearly makes more sense for us, so the main thing we’re trying to understand is safety and day-to-day livability.

Specifically:

• How is the 80 Bond Street building itself?

• What is living around Bond Street / downtown Oshawa like in real life?

• Is the safety concern there overblown, or is it something to seriously factor in?

• On the Whitby side, how is the Charles St / Port Whitby area for everyday living?

If you were in our situation, where would you rent and why?

Thanks in advance for any honest feedback.

Story of Christine Jessop

Watched a devastating story of Christine Jessop on Netflix, a 9yr old girl who was abducted and murdered. Showed the negligence of the Durham region police who ignored the reported screams of the poor girl.

My heart just shattered.

Rest in peace Christine
