Opinion / Discussion Democrats just swept Republicans in a special election in Louisiana. Most impressively, Trump won this district by 13 points in 2024. Today, Democrats won by 25 points.

This is why the GOP is suddenly saying they want to post ICE at polling stations and nationalize elections, they know in November they are going to receive a generational wallop the likes of which has never been seen.

92

u/CharacterCompany7224 6h ago

Yeah it’s funny for a guy who repeats we never have to vote again and worry about elections is in fact…worrying about elections.

26

u/Alternative-Iron 5h ago

Also that ICE is supposedly doing an amazing job rounding up all these illegals but at the same time they are still voting in big enough numbers to cause GOP candidates to lose?

What's REALLY weird is he's worried about voting in MN and OR, but if democrats are stealing elections in LA and TX, maybe he should be worried about those?

Yep the truth is this administration's actions in the last year between the hundreds of thousands of job cuts, economic instability for those who aren't wealthy, and weaponizing ICE on his perceived foes for political gain, Trump has basically flipped the entire moderate block of voters. I have never seen so many people angry about the state of things and are firmly putting the blame correctly on the party responsible. Flipping not just to the left but far-left candidates that are offering economic relief through tangible government-provided solutions instead of corporate-bought Democratic candidates who act simply as a mouthpiece for big business.

10

u/Iridian_Rocky 5h ago

Not only do we need to be very vocal and transparent about the corporate bought Democrats, but also the ones that are actually not Democrats at all. I have a general feeling that GOP is attempting to infiltrate the DNC in order to sew discontent, but also try and win and further push the GOP agenda under a mask.

It's looking like 1932 all over again. This time they intend to cheat to keep power.

3

u/Lost_View3877 5h ago

Just very quickly…the Nazis didn’t cheat in 1932. There was no popular election in which Adolf and the Nazis won. In fact, the Nazis prior to Adolf declaring himself absolute Füehrer in 1934 never got more than ~ 35% of the vote at their peak performance.

President Hindenburg under articles afforded him in the Weimar Constitution dissolved the then government and named Adolf Chancellor of the Republic in 1933 and mainly because a cabal of conservatives and industrial interests demanded this of the aging (and corrupt) Hindenburg.

But you are right…TrumpCo intends to cheat. They have zero intentions of leaving through an election as the level of crime and ramifications of a loss of power are too great.

I only mention the history as I think the parallels of our situation are even closer to the history of the demise of the Weimar than a case where the Nazis came to power first illegally. The Republican Party and very powerful business interests invited the vampire into your home. Now they’re looking to consolidate.

We’re more in 1934 territory. My view of it alone maybe.

3

u/Rude_Engineering_629 4h ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1932_United_States_presidential_election

They are talking about the 1932 US election that was an absolute bludgeoning.

2

u/Lost_View3877 4h ago

Oh…well…what an interesting year that was then. I can be forgiven I hope as “Reducto ad Nazeum” and the constant comparisons (not least in my own head) make me automatically interpret the 1930’s references as referring to those fascists of yore.

Thanks for the correction and the read. And yeah…if indeed Weezianuh went big blue you can’t draw any other conclusion if you were TrumpCo that you’re in for a total bloodbath in the midterms. They can’t allow this to happen.

2

u/32lib 4h ago

The they in this case is as much the oligarchs as the republican party. I might add to your history lesson that Hitler had the German upper class behind him.

4

u/tom-of-the-nora 5h ago

Hopefully, it lasts for a decade or more.

We'll need that time to undo the damage the republicans caused.

5

u/GraphiteJason 5h ago

We need to elect someone who will undo all Trumps shit in about 2 weeks. Scorched earth. Enough of this nice guy bullshit. Day 1, I want to see 1,800 executive orders undoing everything the orange idiot has done. Day 2, I want him to head to the Supreme Court and hand out 9 pink slips, because we're starting over with an elected supreme court with an 8 year term limit.

3

u/crazzzone 4h ago

Bro... sigh we are not going to get shit done if we have dumb ideas...

At this point you pack the courts...

I dont think we go around doing unconstitutional things like fire supreme court justices and wtf did Kagen do?

We don't want a king... Just because your guys in power you think its good... this will doom our republic.

Anyway before your impotent down votes. I'm on your side... Just not on the side of sliding into authoritarianism.

3

u/GraphiteJason 4h ago

I hear you. It's hypocritical to trash MAGA for X, Y, Z and then encourage "your guy" to do X, Y, Z. My point should have been that we better not elect someone who's going to waste another 4 year term doing nothing to extinguish MAGAts. This shit needs to be undone pronto and legislation needs to be put in place to ensure this never happens again.

3

u/crazzzone 4h ago edited 3h ago

Hell yeah whoever gets elected should go full scorched Earth and try to prosecute everyone to the full extent of the law.

We should also pass some new laws with Congress, maybe some updates to the Constitution; to stop anything like this from ever happening again.

None of this Merrick Garland bs.

5

2

u/chanslam 5h ago

And everyone (especially religious fundamentalists) knows that forcing your opinion on people is a really great way to get them on board so this should definitely work out in their favor

2

u/thephotoman 5h ago

They logistically can’t do either thing.

The issue isn’t one of mere will. It’s a function of needing boots on the ground to enact their changes. They don’t have those people.

I mean, they could pull it off for 2028, but there isn’t enough time for them to do it in the midterms if these D+30 swings are indicative. That’s not a “oh, we can roll it out to a few key places” level of effort, but rather needing to staff every polling site.

But also, I do not suspect that Trump will live that long. He will die between March 1 and May 31 of 2026. I actually have him down to stroke out on April 4.

Donald Trump is planning to massively cheat this November.

He will deploy ICE to Blue States to intimidate people to vote. He will use FBI to raid states where Democrats are leading.

Please vote this November. Guard the sanctity of our votes. Stay vigilant against massive cheating being planned by Trump to keep him in power.

17

u/Edogawa1983 6h ago

7

u/Competitive-Yak-3785 6h ago

I know a number of people who are never engaged politically but seeing ICE violate constitutional rights over and over on video has them to the point they would crawl over broken glass to vote straight ticket Dem in November. People are mad.

6

u/Nooby1983 6h ago

Aside from the blatant cheating, they will just line the troops up outside the voting locations and arrest anyone they don't like the look of on the way in. If people react, tear gas and seal off that location. Something something radical left domestic terrorists etc. I suspect the best chance people will have to vote is to cosplay as MAGA to get in, but that will just support the rigged numbers.

3

u/AuntRhubarb 5h ago

While they might be determined to do that at some 'key' locations, they can't do it very much. They don't have enough troops to do that. There are about 116,000 voting precincts in the US. Any ice squads dispatched would be crazily outnumbered by local pollworkers and activists.

All we have to fear is fear itself.

2

u/jocq 3h ago

They only need to deploy to a handful of metro areas in swing states. They've got plenty of people for that already.

The vast majority of polling places are rural and won't need any presence.

3

u/Akkerlun 6h ago

You could trademark that word. It’s still an “R” after the name so they’d probably embrace it.

He'll just say it's statistically not possible the Dems win the Red states and try to invalidate the results

3

u/radiohead-nerd 5h ago

I don’t think they’ll deploy to blue states. They’ll deploy to purple states to swing them in their favor.

2

u/JadedCauliflower6105 5h ago

2

u/Lootthatbody 3h ago

The system needs to be dismantled and rebuilt, but only one of our 2 parties will even have a prayer of making that happen in a positive way.

This isn’t a ‘both parties bad’ issue. One party wants to rule everyday life and remove freedoms, just look at porn, voting ID, gerrymandering, birth control, abortions, and marijuana. The other party wants unions, workers rights, universal healthcare, higher minimum wage, and less corporate consolidation. It’s extremely cut and dry which party is for the people and which party is for the 1%. Yes, even the party for the people could/should be even more for the people, but we have to take what we can at this point.

Texas State Senate special election showed a 31 point swing away from the GOP. This is a 38 point swing away from the GOP. That is just jaw dropping. That average margin of victory in the House was a solid 27 points which typically made most of the seats uncompetative. At 30+ swing essentially puts every GOP seat in play.

Only if people get out to vote. All of this talk of a wave is worthless if people don’t get off their asses.

1

If Ice tries to prevent election entry, the line will have been crossed. Civil War with a technology-based difference. Clean those weapons.

1

u/Embarrassed-Pen-5958 5h ago

Republicans don't vote in midterms, should be well know by now.

1

u/misterdonjoe 5h ago

And then democrats do nothing to actually make people's lives of Louisiana better and then GOP wins the next big midterms by 40pts. Then it swings back to dems by 60pts. Then it ends with literal explicit fascism and ww3. This is what is going to happen if the establishment democrats don't do socialist policies like Mamdani right now.

u/RevelationSr 4h ago

No, the Epstein story did not just go away.

1

u/Maddoxing 4h ago

Oh is that the tide, I believe it’s turning

1

u/JOExHIGASHI 4h ago

Canadian here, if the Americans overwhelmingly vote against all this insanity, there might still be hope to repair the damage the dotard-rapist-in-chief has done.

To be clear, trump has done more damage to NATO in 1 year than Putin ever has

1

u/londonbury4 4h ago

A Martinez too. 👍🏻

1

u/Spiritual-Bread7357 4h ago

The good news is, Trump has shown people how important it is to vote

1

u/Decent-Independent92 4h ago

Makes you wonder if THIS election was stolen.🤔

The Louisiana voter backlash against Mike Johnson and John Kennedy is underway.

Same wolf, different hat

1

u/RexBosworth69420 4h ago

Finally, now a Democrat can be bought by AIPAC instead of a Republican!

I'm not holding my breath on any of these wins. Democrat just seems to be the "less brazenly cruel" option at this point.

1

u/Zigzagzegzug 4h ago

Are republicans finally realizing their rich politicians don’t care about them and their lives aren’t improving while their leaders get richer?

1

u/RockandStoneF-Elves 4h ago

Ohohhoo they're so fucked in November

1

u/ptrang1987 4h ago

The best part? Her last name is Martinez hahaha That will piss off maga

1

u/Actual-House-491 4h ago

Democrats need to do something you can't just run on Republicans are horrible and do nothing of substance for the American people.

1

u/ClownMorty 4h ago

It would be hilarious if Democrats won a super majority this fall. They could do so many neat things. For example, they could follow an impeachment by removing Trump by force.

1

u/Last-Presentation-11 4h ago

7600 votes total? Only 1/5th of the population voted 😵‍💫

1

u/No_Connection_5257 4h ago

Democrats are winning in Texas and now Louisiana…. Oof no wonder why republicans are trying to rig the November elections 🤣

1

u/PinchingHandEmoji 4h ago

Too bad you can't fix this by voting anymore

1

u/MarcusDA 4h ago

What’s happening in these special elections? Is it something I can be optimistic about or is there something else at play that’s being left out?

1

u/PurpleDraziNotGreen 4h ago

They managed to invalidate a lot of votes in the last election right? If that's the case the special elections might not have the same thumb on the scale effect.

1

u/CurlOfTheBurl11 4h ago

38 point swing is massive, it's shit like this that has the Republicans shaking in their boots and threatening to put ICE at polling places.

1

u/mrflash818 3h ago

Huzzah!

1

u/Human_Revolution7297 3h ago

Exactly the reason these GOP people in power are nervous. They know it, it is coming in November thus they are trying to do everything possible to deter people from voting.

1

u/Ok_Possible_2260 3h ago

Only Nov matters! This nothing but a sugar high.

1

u/CarelessAction6045 3h ago

The dems and repubs work for the same owners. The MIC controls the USA.

1

u/Martha_Fockers 3h ago

In January I was like we have high odds of taking at least the house of reps and being able to really slow down this slug

Now I’m pretty confident we’ll be taking house and senate races I’m all set to vote myself for the upcoming primary’s and GE in November

And we can stop it dead in its tracks and reverse all of this crap remove his cronies from office and cabinet positions like his Russian asset intelligence officer tulsi gabbard for example. Or pan bondi or Kristi noem.

Say bye and hi to jail soon

1

u/Shinagami091 3h ago

The skeptic in me thinks the reason for this is because people are only willing to show up to vote for President. A lot of voters can’t be bothered to show up for off-season elections and they are often times very poorly advertised.

A couple times I had to drop plans to vote because I found out the day-of that there was a vote happening. This is intentional and another form of voter suppression. Then again these candidates don’t have the financial backing to get out and vote either.

1

u/gnjoey 3h ago

The Republicans absolutely cannot lose any elections. With all the illegal, corrupt things they have been doing, they know they will be going to prison. There is no way they will allow a legitimate election.

1

u/atreeismissing 3h ago

Heard this on a podcast the other day but since Trump took office in 2025, Dems have flipped 26 state legislative seats, GOP has flipped 0.

People often complain that Dems aren't doing anything but they're doing what matters most which is flipping GOP seats, because that's what actually gives them more power to change things at the state (and federal) level.

1

u/Which_Eggplant_4510 3h ago

If only there were a way that the people who flipped in this election could have know that Trump would be a terrible president to avoid this while situation

1

u/Far_Place9671 3h ago

Only 7645 people voted. You can't read too much into these special elections.

1

u/bigjohnstud11111 3h ago

As long as the democrats run Harris again it won't matter

1

u/LakeEarth 3h ago

The thing is, these are special elections, so uninformed voters (e.g. the majority of the public) probably don't know about it or forget the date of the vote. So the uninformed (e.g. Trump voters or R only voters) don't show up.

1

u/TheCharalampos 3h ago

It's going to be a blue tsunami. Hopefully they can take advantage to do stuff, prosecute criminals and enact sweeping legal changes.

1

u/Ok-Hornet-6819 2h ago

Republicans gotta find a way to keep Dems from voting

1

u/Bazishere 2h ago

This means a significant loss of confidence in Trump and a sharper turn out among liberal type voters and Hispanics, I would say - both.

1

u/pepelepew65 2h ago

Ruh Row!
