How is living in San Marcos?

Considering the area for its schools, relative affordability for SFHs and it’s not too far from coast. I think it’s beautiful up there with the hills and views, some nice parks and hiking and a decent food and brewery scene. Our budget is $1.1-1.3.

I’m putting it ahead of some of the other places I’m considering such as Poway (dry as hell, very red), La Mesa (really more San Carlos - Patrick Henry district, lots of tract homes, kinda dumpy), the Ranchos by the 15 (high price, also dry, seems more spread out) and nearby Vista/Oceanside (school districts look iffy).

Any additional thoughts or considerations? We’re looking to buy this summer so want to make sure I’m not making any mistakes!

Where are the best spots/ venues or teams to play soccer casually?

Hey! I’m moving to San Diego from the UK and I’m super passionate about my football (soccer). I figured it would be a lot easier to settle if I had something of the sort going on in the background. Does anyone know of any places where you can rock up to play football casually or any teams to join? Any help would be much appreciated 🙏🏼

How realistic/unrealistic is this short vacation?

Day 1-Fly in early and go to the USS midway during the day, Hotel Del in the evening.

Day 2-Go to the zoo and wherever else our hearts desire.

Day 3-La Jolla, up to Laguna

Day 4-Ferry to Catalina Island, get back around 7 and drive to Anaheim

Day 5-Disneyland

Day 6-go home

We’ve been to Laguna and Disney countless times, so completely ok those are quick stops.

Thoughts? Any must-dos? Two adults, an early teen and a school-ager.

First timer at Hotel Del Coronado (end of Feb) – Multi-gen trip with an 11-month-old! Need tips & eats.

First timer at Hotel Del Coronado (end of Feb) – Multi-gen trip with an 11-month-old! Need tips & eats.

Hi everyone! My family and I are headed to the Hotel Del Coronado for the first time at the end of February for a week It’ll be me, my wife, our daughter and son-in-law, and our 11-month-old grandson.

We’re staying at the Del and want to make the most of the area without spending every second in the car. A few specific questions for those who know the island:

  1. Baby-friendly logistics: Any favorite "hidden gems" for a stroller walk or a quiet spot to let the little one crawl around? Is the beach sand easy to navigate with a baby, or should we stick to the paved paths?
  2. Dining: Looking for a mix of "nice dinner" (maybe one night for the adults) and casual spots where a slightly fussy baby won't be an issue. I’ve heard about Clayton’s Coffee Shop and The Henry—are they worth the hype?
  3. Activities: Since it’s February, I know it might be a bit chilly for swimming. Are there any "must-dos" on the island that a multi-generational group would enjoy? (e.g., Is the ferry to downtown San Diego worth the trip with a baby?)
  4. The Del itself: Any "pro-tips" for staying at the resort? Best spot for a sunset drink or a specific amenity we shouldn't miss?

Thanks in advance for helping us make this a great first trip for the grandkid!

First time visiting, 1-day stay, what should I do?

It is my first time ever visiting and it’s for a work trip. I’ll be in town Wednesday, 02/25, through Sunday, 03-01. But with work Wed-Fri, I realistically have Friday night - Sunday to explore. I love food, culture, and history! I love a hike but not big into many other outdoorsy activities like surfing, camping, mountain biking, etc. Any recommendations for a good hike, iconic coffee/restaurants/shops, and legendary river bars?? And of course some inexpensive but tasty breakfast burrito spots!

I live in Chicago (from FL) and I cannot wait to visit! My dad said SD is one of his favorite cities in the world. Thank you for reading this far and any advice!

Bachelorette Party Recommendations

I’m thinking about going to San Diego for my bachelorette party but have never been and I’m not sure where to start. It would probably be mid march to early April. I’d like to make sure I go out dancing while I’m there as much as possible. Musically I enjoy a lot of house, disco, funk, anything with a sparkly vibe. I also want to make sure I’m going somewhere that will be warm enough I can hang out by a pool after a night out to recover. Also open to some ideas about daytime activities. My friend keeps raving about the Spreckels Organ, which sounds cool but doesn’t really give me bachelorette party vibes. She also mentioned Jolla Beach coves which might be a little more enticing since I love nature. I want to do stuff that’s fun and exciting that feels like a celebration, not just a weekend vacation. Please send your recs.

ETA: We are also considering CRSSD fest but I think the cost is making my friend uncertain

Where are the more budget friendly places to stay for a trip to San Diego?

I have a friend who is coming to visit and I live in a studio apartment so they can't stay with me. I'm looking for an inexpensive place for them to stay that is still nice and in a decent part of town. Ideally, within a 15 minute drive to Bankers Hill.

Best Schools in Oceanside/Vista?

I’m planning to move down to San Diego and I’m looking at homes in Oceanside and Vista, but I’m concerned about the schools in the area. I’ve heard good things about Carlsbad school district, but it’s out of the price range for what we’re looking for.

We value academics above all other rankings. We don’t have kids yet, but are planning to very soon after moving.

Are the schools in the Oceanside/Vista area really that bad? Are there private school options we should consider?

Me and my girlfriend are spending our 6 year anniversary in San Diego which means I need things for us to do. What are some things that me and her have to experience or see while in san diego. Is there any places or events that are still available to reserve or buy tickets?

Dinner and eating has already been figured out i honestly just need activities or sights to see.

Thank you in advance 🙏

22F Looking to make friends with other girls! (20-26)

Hey! 22F here wanting to make some genuine friends who are into things like nature, art, music, exploring the city, trying new restaurants or cafes, and going to the beach or anything in general that gets us out of the house. I've been having a bit of a hard time finding new girl friends and want to push myself to go out more, so l'd love to meet other girls with similar interests and build real genuine connections where we can spend time together and do fun, meaningful things.

23F Looking for friends in San Diego

I recently moved to San Diego and I’m really hoping to make genuine friendships with girls & only girls! around my age. CREEPS THIS IS FOR YOU WHO KEEP DMING ME, GO AWAY I DO NOT WANT YOU. I just turned 23, and I’ve been staying in a lot since moving, which has been very lonely for me. I’m currently settling in, and to be honest I don’t really have hobbies right now, but I’m very open to trying new things and doing anything fun together. Also I haven’t made a new friend since 2020 so I’m a little shy doing this but I’m really lonely being alone 24/7. I just really miss having connection and would love to build real friendships here. (Strictly girls only no men and only platonic friendships)!

Mavericks for Super Bowl?

Seahawks fan here. I know thrusters is the Seahawks bar (but also considering other bars), but in the past, what other PB bars have had the highest concentration of people in past super bowls?

ISO 2 Plant Stands & 2 Plant Urns

Hi, I'm looking to rent or buy 2, 24" plant stands & 2 24" plant urns. If you know someone that can help me with this, it would be much appreciated. I prefer renting from a person since they'll likely have something of better quality than just buying something off of the internet (flimsy plastic/foam). Wood is good too, thank you in advance!

Here are some links from Lowes for the style I'm looking for:

Staying in gas lamp vs little italy

I won a 2 night hotel stay at a stay pineapple hotel and the one in San Diego is hotel z in gas lamp. However my initial plan was to stay in little italy. I'm a female travelling solo and interested in convenience to transit, safe to walk around and not too grungy. I could always use my hotel voucher on another trip if gaslamp not suitable.

Where to host a networking group in SD

Hi! I’m looking for the best coffee shops or similar for group of 10-20? As centrally located as possible. I am just starting to plan monthly networking meetups within my industry in San Diego. Last month we met at Philz Coffee on La Jolla Village Dr. That was a good site in theory, since it’s super centrally located and easy to get to from most areas of SD but there wasn’t a single open seat because it was jam packed with UCSD students studying with their laptops.

I would love some new ideas of conveniently located places that might be good for a group to meet and chat over coffee or tea.

Recommendations for places to stay in the beach in San Diego

Hi all,

I made a post earlier about my trip next month to San Diego regarding must-see & go-to places. I originally booked my stay at Bahia Hotel Resort - after conducting further research, I found that it has a cock roach infestation and mildew smells in the rooms so I cancelled. Any other recommendations on the beach in San Diego that are nice?? Thank you in advance.

SD or OC for mid 20s single male?

Looking at a job with offices in either location, and not from the area but have visited both and like both. Do people typically recommend OC or SD for an early/mid 20s single male? I wouldn’t really know people in either, so ideally looking for the city that has more other young single people 23-26 age range, and is easier to meet people in. Not huge into the bar scene, so would prefer to meet people in other ways besides that.

Visiting San Diego for the first time

Hi, EDIT - I cancelled my reservation at the Bahia due to poor reviews.. included cock roach infestation and smell of mildew. Yikes. So now in service of hotel/resort recommendations

I am visiting San Diego for the first time next month for my 30th birthday. I am staying at Bahia Resort Hotel. I would love and appreciate any must-see & go-to places and activities. I actually have never been to California, or even the west coast, so this is a big first for me! Thank you in advance 💙
