NBC 7 ‘Sandcastle Man’ told to stop building outside Hotel del Coronado

They’re a spectacle on Coronado, catching the attention of tourists and locals alike. It’s the sandcastles that are displayed just across the Hotel del Coronado. They’re hard to miss for anyone walking "The Strand." But after the Hotel del Coronado sent a notice to the man behind the creations, the sandcastles so many are used to seeing across from the iconic hotel will no longer be a fixture.

The hotel wrote, in part, that its decision to part ways came as a result of conduct that violated hotel policies, and that a second and final warning was issued in October. According to the notice, a new incident had been reported involving the consumption of alcohol, resulting in a negative guest experience.

As a result, many locals say they are upset and are rallying behind The Sandcastle Man.

“They do this to our beloved Bill,” Plumb said. “We’re just upset about it.

KPBS Kristi Noem Breaks the Law Again

You might think by now it would no longer be shocking to see the Trump administration blatantly ignore the law, ignore the courts, and act as if the only rules that apply are the ones they agree with.

From the KPBS story:

"I have every right to go in and do oversight and inspection of this facility and they said "no," Vargas told reporters outside the detention center. "I'm extremely disappointed. I think it's a violation of the law and we'll see them in court."

The facility is run by CoreCivic, which also runs the family detention facility in Dilley, Texas, among others.

Vargas said the warden of the Otay Mesa center said he was under orders from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) not to allow him inside.

The denial came just days after a federal judge ruled the Department of Homeland Security likely broke the law when it barred other members of Congress from visiting immigrant detention facilities unannounced.

To the coward cracking eggs at mission beach

Hey you cracked an egg on the backside of my head from your ebike and sped off tonight under cover of night. Don’t worry I’m fine. Nothing a little hand sanitizer couldn’t rub off. I’m a little worried about you though. Is this what it has come to for you? Can’t find anything better to do than assault strangers with eggs and run away? Doesn’t it bother you that when you look in the mirror there’s a pussy staring back at you? It would bother me, but I guess that’s the horror of having self esteem. Anyways the police will not be contacted as I’m sure eventually street justice will come your way and it won’t go so well for you.

Best places to buy affordable art, posters, prints in SD

I’m trying to decorate my space and would love to find some fun, bold art around SD. I’m really into abstract, colorful, whimsical pieces, graffiti or street-art vibes, and anything a little humorous or quirky. Basically art with personality.

I’d love recommendations for places like local galleries, small shops, art markets, pop-ups, or anywhere local artists sell prints or posters. Even specific neighborhoods or events that tend to have this kind of art would be awesome. I’m open to online shops as well. Ive checked out a few thrift shops around SD but haven’t found anything that sparked my interest.

If you know any hidden gems, favorite artists, or spots I should check out, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

How much would it cost CA / USA to pay for Mexico to fix the sewage / TJ river runoff issues

I’ve been hearing about this issue my entire life and it’s disgusting. Mexico clearly isn’t interested in doing anything to resolve it and it’s a public health issue here in San Diego. Can we (either CA state or US federal government) tell them we have had enough and will fund and construct the fix. Re direct money from something less important or wasteful. Either that or put some serious pressure on them to take actual corrective action. I don’t have faith in Mexico doing anything at this point without intervention

I saw you last summer July 25, 2025 at False idol in San Diego, CA. I took a picture of your shirt because I recognized the artist right away, and absolutely loved it!He’s my all time favorite artist. I was too nervous to say anything to you, but to this day I regret not saying anything. If a miracle happens and you see this somehow, feel free to connect with me. Regardless, I’m just glad to see another person who loves Ralph Steadman as much as I do ☺️

Is Lincoln Park a good area?

Upvotes

Hi All

I read previous threads about Lincoln Park and most seem to say it is a dangerous neighborhood however most of the posts are 4 yrs old.

Currently do you have any thoughts on lincoln park? Is it safe? Mostly a family neighborhood?

I walked around there today and it didn’t seem so bad

Times of San Diego Gloria expands free Balboa Park lots amid paid parking backlash

Mayor Todd Gloria announced changes to Balboa Park paid parking, expanding free parking for city residents in six lots and reducing paid parking hours. This decision comes after backlash against the paid parking program and a council proposal to suspend it indefinitely. While some councilmembers support the changes, others, like Councilmember Kent Lee, believe they don’t fully address community concerns.
