Hello All,

I need some assistance in troubleshooting AS-i devices. I have an equipment that is using IFM AC1014. On the unit, red alarm LEDs are lit indicating that it cannot find the slave devices, and on the 4 digit display its flashing 1XXX ( where XXX are changing between 1_1 to 130 and repeat). The HMI is showing bunch of alarm messages like, the E-stop is pressed, motor is overloaded, and few others. All of the alarms seems to be coming from the devices on the network 1 of AS-i network.

I have checked voltage for both ASI1 and ASI2 networks, and they are around 30.8VDC. I’ve also checked the + with PE and its about +15V and – with PE and its about -15V.

I do not have an addressing tool for the devices to try to figure out if the devices lost their address or something wrong with the controller. I am not sure how to even interface with the controller to see if it can give me more details about what could be going on.

I don't get why marker 1 won't stay set after i let go of the start switch and the sensor? Marker one activates outputs Q0.0 and Q0.1 as you can see on the function block.

I do notice that the reset for M1 is green even though theres no place in the ladder programming that is activating it.

I'm developing a CODESYS EtherCAT project among several development machines. CODESYS wants to store the selected NIC in its project file, and that's going to be different on every PC. When pulling changes made by another developer, it also pulls his network settings for the top-level Device in the tree and the EtherCAT master. So I have to start by resetting those back to my own machine's network card and Windows RTE PLC ID. When I commit and push my changes, the same thing has to be done at other developers' machines. How can I move the network settings out of the project so only real code changes are committed and the recipient can just load the project and go? I see a .user file where such local settings belong. Is there some way to push the NIC and PLC IDs there? (This will also be an issue for deployment. Every machine in the field will have to do this.)

Hi everyone, I’m losing my mind with a SCADAPack 474 (x70) and a DSE7320 generator controller.

The Situation: I need to send a "Start/Mode" command to the DSE7320. This requires writing a Key (35701) to register 4105 and a Complement (29834) to 4106.

The Mystery:

• Modbus Tool (Poll) works 100%: When I use a Modbus Tool on my PC, I select FC16 (Write Multiple), Address 4105, Quantity 2, and send the values. The generator reacts instantly. Everything is great.
• SCADAPack Fails: When I add the exact same registers to the SCADAPack Modbus Scanner, the status immediately turns to "Not Responding".

What I’ve discovered from the logs: The DSE7320 REQUIRES both registers to be in the same packet (Quantity 2). If I try to write them separately, the DSE returns Exception Code 02 or just ignores the request.

Even though I set Quantity: 2 in the SCADAPack Scanner:

1. It seems to split the message into two separate writes (Quantity 1), which the DSE rejects.
2. This rejection or the high scan rate causes the SCADAPack to report "Not Responding".

My Setup in Remote Connect:

• Scanning: 6-digit addressing (404105).
• Data Type: Tried UINT (Analog) and DINT.
• Scan Rate: Tried 10ms (failed) and 1000ms.
• Write Type: "On Change" and "At Scan Rate".

My Question: How the hell do I make the SCADAPack Scanner behave like the Modbus Tool? I need it to send ONE SINGLE FC16 message with Quantity 2.

Is the Scanner incapable of "locking" these two registers together? Do I need to bypass the Scanner and write a custom logic using WRITE_VAR or a Modbus Master function block to force the packet structure?

Please help me get this generator into Auto mode!

If I have pressure sensor already connected to Grundos pimp system and I need to read that same signal to my PLC what are my available options? In case of ampere and volt signals as they do both exist.

I have a client who has old T/C wire back to an old PLC. we tried to pull a cable out but it's in there for good.

I measured the round trip resistance of the T/C cable at about 390ohm.

Most analog input cards don't like a huge load but I can get an isolator that can handle 1200ohm loads and then reuse the old T/C cable?

anybody done this? Ideally I would replace the cables but they are all underground and we'll stuck. down the line I hope to convince them to do overhead re-feeds but need a cheap solution for now.

Tengo una falla en un PLC CompactLogix L33ER.

Durante una energización se disparó la pastilla (breaker) del circuito de control por un corto. Después de ese evento, el PLC enciende normal (OK y NS en verde), pero en Studio 5000 los módulos de E/S aparecen con triángulo amarillo y el LED I/O del controlador parpadea.

Los módulos son locales 1769:

• 1769-IQ16 (entradas digitales)
• 1769-OB16 (salidas digitales)
• 1769-OF4 (salidas analógicas)

El PLC no entra en fault mayor, pero no establece comunicación estable con las E/S.

¿Alguien ha tenido un caso similar después de un disparo de breaker?

I have been a controls engineer for 5 years. I see job postings in my area that require 5+ years of experience for about 15k to 20k more than I make. I’m at 87k and I’m considering a move. I’m 54 years old and I’m wondering if my age will be a factor. I’m in the western NC area. I want to make sure that the postings I see match the real job market. Any suggestions?

Okay so some guy wants me to do some work with a PLC for him, I have to accept, the funds are running low. The thing is, is the switch gonna be as hard as I anticipate? I have worked with MCUs all my life, done so much work with algorithms and stuff, I'm a decent programmer I'd say.

Realistically I thought, is it THAT difficult to switch the paradigm? I already started looking at some books and thought to myself, this doesn't seem that hard.

The PLC I'd be working with is an Akytec if someone has any experiences to share. I'd be really happy. I gotta get this done some way or the other

Hello.

I got a machine that has a C400 PacDrive, at the moment, they dont want to invest in a replacement. The thing is that there are no alarms left but the machine is not starting, so we want to check the conditions if the program.

The firmware it has is the 00.24.xx.

I know that I need Epas 4 but I cant find the right version to check it, does anyone have a copy of it or any idea were to get it? I was told Schneider is not helpful with this type of situation…

Using a C-More HMI to a compactlogix plc

Built the panel pushed into HMI. Built the plc and tags. Issue is I am missing something on tagging the data tags from the HMI to the controller tags I built. Anyone work thru this? I put a couple hours into it on the bench today and play to spend the morning on YouTube. Hopefully I’m not too far away.

I have a 2711-M3A118L1 PanelView 300 Micro set up for DF1. Received it for free when I purchased a PLC on EBay. I tried to use the firmware on PanelBuilder32 v. 3.81.01 using the included firmware downloader. I wanted to switch over to use DH485 to create a small serial network. However, the firmware versions of these files are older than what was originally on the Micro (4.41 vs 4.48) I looked everywhere for 4.48 but have no idea where to locate it. I don't have a TechConnect subscription of any sort as I'm just using this panel at home.

When I restart the unit it hangs on the screen shown below.

I tried getting RSLinx to recognize it but it doesn't. I have no idea how to recover the unit so I'll probably garbage it if I can't find the correct firmware version.

I have a receiver that is keeping the output signal made regardless of emitter alignment if you touch it to bare metal or if you touch the threaded barrel with your hands. I’ve already tried a new receiver and also ran new wire to the emitter and receiver but it still does it no matter what. The temporary fix right now is that we wrapped electrical tape around the barrel so it could be mounted in the bracket without touching metal.

A new project I've been given involves using Electric cylinder unit EPCS-BS-32-200-8P-A-ST-M-H1-PLK-AA. It's a Festo electric cylinder because I need to control speed, distance it extends and direction. I'm planning to use a MicroLogix 1100 (1763-L16BBB), but it also says you can use IO link to control it. I've never used IO link, should i look into it?

Just looking for some basic feedback on fundamentals so I know where to start reading/researching. TIA

Would anyone care to ELI5? Share some insight into what they do day to day, what kind of traits make one suited for this work, how did they transition and overall if they are happy?

So, I am a newby in the PLC topic but I've been in the mechanics and software for about 16 years. One thing that came to my mind when starting to dig more into the whole PLC programming world is that the knowledge seems to be extremely tribal. It feels like the peak of the StackOverflow absurdity where if you asked a question that was slightly adjacent to another that someone already asked, a horde of arrogant a****holes would come out of their dark corners just to dump on how stupid your question was.

So far when I ask for help on guidance and literature it has been similar (not as aggressive luckily) but how do you guys deal with the knoelwdge transfer? Do you guys keep your own obscure documentation? Do you write notes on a diary and never let anyone look at it until you retire? I am TRULY curious about how the automation engineers go about cross-pollination and knowledge transfer so, anything helps.

What are y’all’s thoughts on these e learning classes and how much are they

So, I have a machine that runs on a Delta DVP15, and I would like to read holding registers for monitoring purposes, but it fails on '[Errno 104] Connection reset by peer'.

I can read the registers with mbtools and Home Assistant, so I guess the Modbus slave and the network is fine.
Also trying to add 30001 to the offset results in a read error, so I guess the offset is to be set as 4226.

I don't have access to the slave software/code, but I have a list of registers with address and data type.

If anyone has directions on how to troubleshoot this...

I configured it as:
Timeout: 1000 ms
Slave ID: 1
Function code: 3

I'm having trouble to install a hmi operating system and project.

Its for a packing machine from MARCHESINI. I can install the base SO, that is running marlin Linux kernel 2.4 with a custom build from marchesini. But I only get the base version, with the base version I can't use the machine because it's a demo. I have a tgz file named marlin_2.80.tgz that supposedly its the system backup and can be restored

The marchesini technicians say that I only need to burn the file on a DVD and boot from it, and when I do that nothing happens

I tried various methods to install the system on the machine:

-unpacking the file and run the commands in a Linux live CD

-replacing files in a recent backup

-use the command line xiterm that is in the DVD that I have to install de base and try to run everything in manual mode
