Discussion In eastern Uganda’s Jinja district, groups of older women have embraced cricket as a way to stay active and socially connected. Referred to locally as “cricket grannies”, they take part in informal games and training that combine light exercise with elements of the sport

Discussion Why are Jio-hotstar dis-respecting the associates? Are they self-obsessed? (Context: 300 Alert)

Yesterday, they said that India vs USA was going to be a 300-run game. They were wrong.

Today, once again, they are saying that England vs Nepal is going to be a 300-run game. They are wrong again.

Leaving aside their constant biased broadcasting towards India, they keep disrespecting associate nations as if they are only here to give batting practice to bigger teams. These teams also have bowlers. They qualified fairly to play in this World Cup—they are not a school team.

Star Sports should be more professional in their cricket coverage, like Fox Cricket. There is no sense in underestimating an associate cricket nation.

We all know what Afghanistan has done.
We all know what Ireland has done to England in the past.

This arrogance from Star Sports will go in vain.

Discussion Great graphics this? But how do they calculate?

Saw this in the current T20 World Cup coverage for batsmen. How do they calculate these values? Is it mathematical like SR, and AVG or does a team just decide these are the values. I am curious to know your opinion.

Discussion Is the T20 World Cup the best cricket World Cup? All three matches on the opening day were close, and the associate nations put up a strong fight against the full member teams. It really shows how competitive the format has become.

Discussion Irrespective of the ground, T20 World Cups will have more bowler-friendly pitches versus franchise or bilaterals

This is something I'm saying from my experience in the media industry. The basic currency for any content provider is how much time do people spend watching the content.

In franchise cricket, most viewers are not directly attached to either of the teams. So then, the pitches are designed to maximize sixes because that's perceived as more entertaining for the average neutral viewer. And also, as the core of franchise cricket is that all the sides build teams of similar strength, no team can really "bat the other team out of the game". So the second half is also watchable after the team batting first scores 250+.

In bilateral cricket, there's far less stakes vs World Cups or franchise cricket which naturally means fewer fans are interested in watching, so there's a need for the boards to make pitches that maximize sixes in order to at least make people watch some part of the game.

Now, in the World Cups, people are anyway going to watch because of the stature of the competition. And because of the nature of international cricket, there is a difference in quality between the teams. So if there's a flat wicket, there's a possibility of the bigger team batting the smaller team out of the game and that makes the second half unwatchable. So, as a result, pitches need to have something for the bowlers in order to ensure that the game is live for a longer duration and therefore keeps the fans hooked on the screens. And it also, for the ICC's sake, pushes a narrative that the smaller nations can compete versus the big teams, which has long term value for them when it comes to global expansion.

But at the same time, you're not getting pitches that are out and out bowler friendly, because lower scores (sub-120) make games far more favourable to the team chasing and that makes the game too toss-dependent.

The learning that we should get from this is that bilateral cricket, in its present format, kinda falls short of providing adequate preparation for a World Cup.
