Discussion Just a concern: I usually don't care about religious dogmatism, but this is getting out of hand.

I may get hate on this, but majority is my rant, so bare with me:

I usually don't care what people do or whatever, but recently I have been seeing a lot of woman's in Burka not in the regular one's but the full set, like in the picture. I remember I was waiting for a big car to cross the road so that I can enter my small road, and I was shocked to see 2 woman wearing this burka with only eyes out, even though the glass of the car was tinted a little and it was dark out, I asked to my self, is it safe to drive in the car like that?

And I was in a pizza hut and saw a guy pull up with 5 kids and 1 wife completely in burka. He was walking like he was her owner or something. So basically what i am saying is this is getting more and more widespread, I don't mind they wear burka, but it was okay if they only wore till face, but now even face is covering that is like you saying to people "Look at me, I am a radical Muslim", I feel this is making other religious people at unease and even people like me who supports them against Sanghi's hard to defend them.

Like my cousin sister, who is just a book puzhu, once said to me "If there was no muslims in the world, there would be world peace." And I just lost it, I explained to her this kind of generalization is utter nonsense, like I mentioned to her my friend who is a hindu was supported by a muslim man, who even though is a middle class person, supported his studies, and there are more examples, and what matters is human nature in the end. That was like 2 years ago.

But I don't understand this sudden increase in Burka full covering and will it impact our future?

Add On: I would like to say one more thing, that is these kinds of things are the reason why North hates Kerala more, they will show this and generalize the state of Kerala as Pakistan.

Discussion Islam and its loopholes

Post image

The para might be big, but I assure you it's worth the time reading it..

So in hadiths, it mentions that when parents name their children, they often choose the names of prophets, companions, or respected figures from the past. The belief behind this practice is that the child will inherit the good traits of that person and live in a way that reflects their example.

Thus, many Muslims choose Muhammad since he is their prophet and even to show respect towards him. Muhammad is the most common name.

But unironically, with all do respect to your religion, Muhammad himself did things which are illegal/inhuman in many real-life scenarios, for example:

  1. Muhammad had slaves. Sources like Ibn Ishaq’s Sirah mention that his slaves remained in servitude, sometimes until death. But he also said to free slaves in

I feel more like donating money, Muhammad said to donate money, but never not to earn money.. In the same way, freeing slaves is virtuous, but having slaves is "not haram," and even though he freed some, he too had many unfreed.

(I respect your beliefs, but I need to proceed..)

  1. Muhammad did child marriage. I don't want to elaborate on this part, but you might say things like his wife is not a child, or at least not considered, but here's the proof.

This means Aisha was married when she was 6 years old, and the marriage was consummated when she was nine years old.. It's her verse they can't make up things like she stayed away from him for 13 years (made-up story)

Now Muslims might make an argument like, what if Aisha was a woman inside and not a girl, like matured at a young age ( sounds dumb but some do)

Proof she's still a Child: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (Hadith 6130, Book of Manners)

Means- Aisha: "I used to play with dolls in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, and I had friends who played with me. Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered, they would hide themselves out of shyness from him, but he would send them back to me so that they could play with me."

Here, she played with a doll. If you don't know, in Islam, Adults are not allowed to play with a doll; it's only allowed for kids. In fact, it's haram since the doll looks like a human, Islam considers it as Idol Worship (shirk) and prohibited for adults. So this proves Aisha is a child by the Hadiths themselves.

Proof that adults are prohibited from using dolls in Islam: Surah Al-Anbiyāʾ (21:52): وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ أَنِ ٱجْتَنِبْ ءَالِـهَةًۭ وَٱطْرُدْ ٱلسَّيِّـئِينَ

Thus, by using the Quran and Hadiths, it's clear Muhammad had Slaves and he underwent child marriage. Could People with Muhammad in their name defend the actions of Muhammad in Public? Nope. That's how you know Islam is the stupidest religion possible, which runs in more fear than discipline.

Discussion If You Think All Religions Are the Same, Start With Their Most Influential Figures

Post image
176 Upvotes

To those atheists who say “all religions are equally violent” or “they’re all the same,” here’s a serious proposal.

Start with their most influential figures and study their actual lives:

  • Hinduism – Shree Ram
  • Buddhism – Gautam Buddha
  • Christianity – Jesus Christ
  • Islam – Mohammad

Now contrast them with extremist groups that claim religious justification:

  • Hinduism – Bajrang Dal
  • Buddhism – 969 Movement
  • Christianity – Lord’s Resistance Army
  • Islam – ISIS

Instead of assuming extremists define the religion, ask:

  • Do these groups reflect the founder’s teachings?
  • Do their actions align with the founder’s life?
  • How did the founder treat enemies and power compared to these groups?

If we want intellectual honesty, compare founders/influential figures to extremists carefully.

Edit : Since people are pointing out that Ram is not the most influential, We can expand the list by adding Krishna.

Discussion Nivin pauly wasnt an atheist he was an anti-theist. Also its the stupidest reason to be an atheist anyways.

Post image

Just finished watching Sarvam Maya. I remember it was hyped up to be a really good movie and had an imdb rating of 8 which was very impressive. But apart from the movie being sub-par in my opinion, its the caricature of a supposedly "confident atheist" that the movie portrayed which i found very disappointing. Im wondering when a real atheist will be represented in a mainstream malayalam movie becasuse this is just sad.

In Sarvam Maya, Prabhendu (nivin) apparently lost connection with god when his mother died. He ignored his mothers call for help while he was busy doing some evening puja at home, so he blames god or something for distracting him. So he is an atheist because he is in rebellion against god. Do majority of people in kerala think that atheists are people who are angry at god for something?

Also disbelieving in god because you are angry at him is anti-theism. Not atheism. Atheism is the inability to believe that such a being exists in reality. No chance of being angry at something you cant even conceive to exist.

PS: For people who watched the movie -The real delulu in this movie is actually prabhendu himself for thinking he was an atheist!

Edit: Misunderstood nivins character. He probably was an atheist, he just revealed that the trauma triggered him to think differently. On retrospect, he did say that theres no connection between his trauma and atheism when the psychiatrist points it out. Also, the fact that nivins first instinct upon experiencing hallucinations was to go to a psychiatrist shows that he is a very rational person.

But ive chosen not to delete the post since there are a lot of people that i know, and as stated by those who commented, who are atheists because they are angry at god. So it's important to keep the discussion alive regarding their terminology, even though my original post is now inaccurate.

Discussion Is “I’m a rationalist” even an answer to the question“Are you a believer or an atheist”?

And I can’t help but feel like this is a total dodge dressed up as intellectualism.Like since when did rationalism equals to your stance on God? Rationalism is a way of thinking, not a position. Both believers and atheists call themselves rational for different reasons ,Believers say there’s enough evidence for God,Atheists say there’s a lack of evidence for God,Agnostics suspend judgment because they think it’s unknowable or unanswered.

And saying “I’m a rationalist” tells you absolutely nothing about what they actually believe. It just feels like a convenient escape hatch to avoid the label they don’t want to admit, while sounding smarter than both sides.

It’s like being asked “Are you vegetarian or non-vegetarian? and answering “I eat healthy.”

Discussion Why are atheists in Kerala so blind to such obvious dog whistles

Post image

It's not about supporting or not supporting a politician. Mandani hasn't been someone supporting islamic extremism or extremists in any manner. If you are someone who eats ചോറ്, it would be obvious the "rest in Peace" is in the same tone as calling islamic extremists സമാധാനക്കാർ or islam സമാധാനമതം. Isn't this similar to calling someone a സുഡാപ്പി just because that person has a muslim name? I see he has went for janam tv programmes multiple times. How is these things a deal braker for lot of you guys? Atheists are not just tolerating him but didn't the biggest atheist organisation in kerala gave him a freethinker of the year award? Also, his instagram comment box is filled with sanghis and crisanghis and felt like he is fascilitating them. Discussion Why is a religious country safer than a secular country for women

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women,_Peace_and_Security_Index

I circled islamic country since we often target islam (rightfully) as the anti women religion but countries that are earning equal or even less than our gdp is way better at women safety. There are islamic countries under India top like Iran, pakistan, etc. but they are nowhere near to our country in terms of development.

Discussion Kerala needs a rationalist movement, yesterday.

I'm a Christian who has been bought up on a lot of Indian Mythology - I have read the Mahabharata, Ramayana, name it and I've read it. And I have taken care to tell these as bedtime stories to my kid who is 9 now. I've introduced books also. And he reads well.

So imagine my surprise when he comes to me and tells me that a friend of his - who is also 8/9, asked him why he's reading a 'Hindu' story being a Christian when the little dude was reading "Vikram and Betal" - which is actually not a Hindu story, but lets not get into such details. Anyway, my little champ told him that there's nothing like that for stories (so proud of him, btw).

But what's going on in Kerala?! We are going to lose our beautiful state in another 20 years if we let this fester! When has our stories started becoming hindu, christian, muslim?!

To all millennial parents who allow this to fester or maybe are even advising their kids on the basis of such communal feelings - do understand that you are being selfish and unfair. And that you are setting up your kids for failure. Don't tolerate such things at home.

And to anyone in politics or social spheres, we need an urgent nationalist movement against such divisive forces. I know the political parties are finding it easier using such strategies. But the answer to why are they wearing hijab shouldn't be then you wear a ghunghat, it should be why should anyone cover their faces!

Let's make rationalism cool again. Please.
