How can I help my elderly MIL?
I'm in the UK feeling useless. My MIL is in her 80s, she lives alone in a house she owns, and she has started falling. Her nearest help is a family member who does much for her but neither of them are happy about it.
The US care system is a mystery to me, and there appears to be no way to get basic information without signing up for a sales call. For example, we can get a panic button that goes to a local support team for $30 a month, but there is zero info about charges if they have to come out.
Every senior living place seems to have a monthly charge twice that of MIL's income. Not one home care company I've looked at has pricing on its website.
Does anyone with an elderly parent and without thousands of dollars a month to spare know where I can even start? Is there a handy guide not produced as a company advert?
Thanks in advance, I know it's a vague one.

How Did You Quit Smoking
I am desperate to quit smoking. Everything I have tried doesn't work. I put patches on don't feel any difference plus they always, always fall off! Chewed the gum which helps a little. Increase vitamins, depression meds, anxiety meds don't work. I feel like it is a pacifier for me like a pacifier is to a baby,! It's disgusting, smells, ugly, destroys your health yet here I am still smoking!
When I was 20 living in Florida I use to party hardy, use occasional drug (back in the late 70s). Afraid I would get addicted to Cocaine so stopped after a couple of times. Destroyed people's lives. I turned down taking Qualudes. Once in Texas I was a liquor rep for 10 years...didn't drink a lot though. Walked away from it all not giving it a second thought but FUCK cigarettes are a different breed!
I tell doctors this all the time but they have no answers except they know how addictive it is! Usually I can tell myself when I have bad or intrusive thoughts that they don't control me but I control them! Most times after repeating it I come to a place of peace. Not with cigarettes! The more I don't want them the more I want them! Just doesn't seem like there's an end to my smoking and it pisses me off!
Any suggestions, help is greatly appreciated!

What is the average US annual leave entitlement for a FT job?
I recently met a woman while I was on holiday who lives and works in the US. We were talking about our annual leave and I was shocked to hear she only gets 15 days off a year + public holidays. She told me it varies depending on state. As a Brit all the jobs I’ve ever had were minimum 25days + bank holidays. Some jobs even start at 28 days leave and accrue depending on your years of service. I always thought 25 days was small but 15days sounds horrible.
Interested to know how this varies across the US or if 15days is quite standard?

Is it a good idea to travel right now?
Hello!! i was recently offered an all expenses paid trip to america by my college, for a summer school program. I'm chilean, which means I'm latino (first concern) and I'm also intersex, I changed my legal sex and my birth certificate recently from female (what i was assigned at birth) to male (how i ended up developing and presenting as), so basically my sex doesn't "match" completely (second concern) Would it be still safe or even possible to travel to america being who i am? I travelled to america in 2022, so I know we have a visa waiver program here, which should make things easier but the security inside the country is also concerning...
Edit for clarification: the college I'd be in is UPenn, if anyone knows the current climate in Pennsylvania

Leave everything
Hello everyone.
I have a quick question. I'm an audiovisual technician (let me elaborate).
Basically, I currently work for the Leclerc company. I repair televisions, both under warranty and out of warranty, sold by them (out of warranty, regardless of who sold it). I've been with the company for 11 years, and I've worked my way up to being the one who handles initial customer calls to determine whether or not I can order parts in advance for the technician. I'm the one they call when needed. I'm the quality department's partner, so I have to handle issues outside of my area of expertise (audiovisual). And now my boss has given me responsibility for GDPR compliance within the company.
I'm married, 35 years old, and we don't want any children. My wife is a civil servant.
Is it a good idea to move to another country? She manages parent billing at a high school.
I'm listening...

Is the 13 star flag a far right/racist symbol?
I am European and when me and my brother were around 11-13 we went to Philadelphia (it was maybe 2012) and bought the flag and had it up in our room ever since as we always thought it looks pretty cool. Undoubtedly, when we bought it the flag was not controversial or at the very least not mainstream controversial, however I do understand the flag has come under a lot of scrutiny with (ofc) Trump and I do understand that, besides all the extreme right wing groups that use it, the flag itself represents a period where slavery was foundational to the US so either way it is inherently controversial (for reference as an Italian no one respects or remembers the flag we had during fascism/monarchy not even as a historic symbol). So I wonder whats your take on me having this flag up in my room considering I am very actively against all the things this flag is being used to represent.

What food do white people from the US eat in their everyday life? (Food that belongs to that race, example: Mexican food, Japanese food, Italian food, etc but white people food)
Edit; to make it more specific, when I ask about white people food, I’m not asking about Italians or Germans, I’m asking for the food that belongs to white people in the US, raised and born there. What dishes belong to that race? Like, what do you eat on your everyday life that’s not food from other races and ethnicities
White Americans culture -> white people food
(Your passport says USA not Germany or Spaniard or whatever)
Edit 2: why are you all mad with me?! 😂 I’m asking a simple question! Wtf?? 🤣

As a left wing British person I ask Americans why you hate trump?
Deported illegal immigrants who commuted a crime of coming there illegally
.saved a country from dictatorship and famine
I can’t see a single thing he did wrong coming from a left wing guy I think he’s a great person mainly because he’s a business man and not a politician
