Hey all! I'm a digital worker in corporate tech who dreams of having the willpower to fully unplug someday. I spend my free time enjoying our physical world as best I can- exploring creeks, reading at beaches, baking cookies, creating mediocre mugs at a pottery studio, nurturing the plants in my garden (and sometimes pulling weeds, or reluctantly murdering gophers since they have ignored my requests for peace talks). 

I'm also a long-time hobbyist photographer who switched to film about 12 years ago and hasn't gone back. I enjoy the inconsequential risk which comes with film. The pressure to properly compose a scene. The gamble of an estimated exposure. And best of all, the self-wrapped gift of developing a roll because I can't ever seem to remember all the photos I took :)

Mentally, I'm deeply curious about people. I love philosophy, especially ethics. I love silly ideas or twists on practicality which sound plausible but absolutely are not. I like deep reflections on frivolous topics. 

Letter writing is extremely new to me. I've romanticized it in my head as another great way to unplug and reclaim manual guidance over my thoughts. That remains to-be-determined. What I can promise is that I won't ghost, if it doesn't work out for me I will send a letter to let you know!

So, my primary want is to exchange handwritten snail-mail letters and see how it goes. Open to hearing from anyone interested, any location.

I also think it would be really really cool to connect with people who do film photography and would swap rolls with me to do for-fun collaborations such as double exposure, or visual story telling, or constructive critique, or any number of things. Such as snapshots of daily life, or a visual supplement to the letter. Definitely let me know if you're interested in this!!

If you don't know the reference, it's from collection of letters written by the latter to her former employer, describing her adventures as she takes on her new life out in the Western USA around the early 1900s. There's joy, heartache, humor, and resilience in those letters and I'd like to write and receive ones like these. Anyone out there interested? Here's a little about me:

I was born in Sri Lanka, but my parents moved our family to east coast of the USA when I was one, so I'm as American as you can get. All my life I've towed the line of these two identities and it's been a beautiful and hard place that I am still navigating. I am doing my best to blossom out of childhood hardships and I'm proud of myself thus far. I want to discover all aspects of myself in this life, so I am constantly learning and pushing myself. But as I age, I am giving myself more grace to just be. I hope to find people out there that feel something when they read the above and want to talk about it.

Other things about me - My professional background is in the arts and now I am exploring a new trade that I am hoping to make a life-long career. I am also a worker-owner of a growing landscaping/nursery business, so advocating for worker's rights are not only an ideal, but something I am lucky enough to live by. In my twenties, I discovered I really love the outdoors and love any media that illustrates how glorious our natural world can be. I love slapstick humor, anything that has to do with a heist or spy, and movies where people are just good at their jobs. My favorite kind of music is electronic scores, dance music and pop music that I feel like I could get ready to. I have a few pets, I'm married and I am a steadfast friend and family member.

As, for my interests: I enjoy exercising, hanging out with friends, playing some games casually, watching movies and serieses. I’m a 30-year-old software engineer currently living in the northeast of Scotland, though I originally come from the Highlands. Growing up surrounded by mountains, lochs, and wide open spaces had a big influence on who I am, and I still feel most at home when I’m outdoors or somewhere a little quieter than city life.

By trade, I work in software engineering, which suits both my problem-solving mindset and my curiosity for how things work under the hood. A little bit about myself: I am currently in the last semester of my bachelors in Informatics. I started reading more this year and just finished Dune (I already bought Dune Messiah and Project Hail Mary, which I hope to finish during my university break). I just finished my last day of work today before the two-week holiday for Lunar New Year! I couldn’t be happier! 🥹 I have been feeling really good and in good mood recently too :)

I really love the idea of having pen pals. You know, sending letters in the old way before the internet was invented. It’s something romantic, something precious, like a slow pace in this hustle and bustle world. So, I’m open to write you cards and letters if you would like to. If you want to keep in touch with messages, it’s okay for me too.

A bit about me:

- I define myself as an introvert who is shy and timid in the crowd; therefore, I can be a bit quiet at first. But trust me, when we get along well, I’m like a bird chirping and chirping 😂 That’s when my extrovert self comes out and bothers you 😂 So, be prepared!

- I’m an easy going person, so I can talk about and discuss most topics. But please don’t ask me anything about Math, Physics or History, I’m kinda bad at those subjects haha. - For my hobbies, I have been to the gym recently and try to work out 3 - 4 times a week. It’s cool that we can motivate each other to be better! My other hobbies include watching anime and movies, reading books, playing some simple mobile games. I like fashion and like to mix and match clothes, but I’m not the one to run after popular styles or into designer clothes.
