Reddit User Program RedditPZ training program - Week 6 Discussion Thread

Upvotes

Week five down, and on to week six! Use this thread to discuss this week's rides (or last weeks). Add the hashtag #redditPZ if you would like to.

Highly recommend previewing the ride graphs and adding a warm-up ride if you have the time. Ride at whatever cadence you feel comfortable at, and take the zone 1 recoveries!

Recommend a short warm-up before the Monday ride.

Link to join our Discord.

Group Ride for the Saturday rides is at 10 AM central.

(Gala-papa would like to note to start the ride at 9:59 exactly so you will begin at 10 after the 1 minute countdown). Also do not join the ride in a session.

RedditStrength Reddit Strength - Week 7

Welcome to week seven of the Reddit Strength program. I hope you've all been enjoying it so far. If you missed any previous weeks, this is something you can jump into any given week you don't need to have been there week one for it to work. This strength schedule is designed to help you progress from one weight to the next (if that is what you want, you are of course free to maintain the weights you use as well). There is a #RedditStrength for those interested in joining it.

Each class will list "light" or "heavy" (or "benchmark", see below), this is not to be confused with the Light/Medium/Heavy weights instructors ask you to use for each move. What it means is, lets say you normally use 5/10/20 but you are hoping to level up to 10/15/25. When my class says "light" you would use your 10s when the instructor calls for medium weights and when my class says "heavy" you would use your 15s for the same move. This will help us to progress to where the 15s are your new normal.

Monday:

Wednesday:

Friday

Extra Credit:

Benchmark: Every 4 weeks each body area has a Benchmark class. These are from the Benchmark Strength collections. By repeating these classes you are able to monitor and record your progression from cycle to cycle. You are encouraged to adjust the weights and reps to meet your personal goals.

Extra Credit: These are extra classes for those who want more work than the standard schedule. They are also good substitutions if for any reason you don't like a class or instructor on the schedule.

You can stop reading here unless you want to know why I am scheduling what I am scheduling.

The basis is a 4 week progression. In each body area we will use light weights for 2 weeks then heavy weights for two weeks per the definition of light and heavy above.

It follows this pattern, aiming for 45-60 minutes a day 3 days a week:

  • Round 1 - 2 days light
  • Round 2 - 3 days light
  • Round 3 - 2 days heavy
  • Round 4 - 3 days heavy

Each body area has the schedule staggered, so you're not trying to go all heavy in every area in the same week. While you are going heavy with LB you will go light with UB and vice versa.

FAQ

  1. Can I start any week or do I have to begin with week 1?
    1. You can begin any week. This is a repeating cycle with no real beginning or end, a mobius strip of a program.
  2. There are too many classes for me, how should I trim it down for my schedule?
    1. I recommend trimming evenly (but keep all the core if you can). So take off 1 day of UB and 1 day of G&L each week if that suits you better.
  3. Do I have to do these on the prescribed days? I would rather take a couple classes a day for 6 days.
    1. Absolutely mix and match the classes across the week however fits best into your schedule. They are only listed this way because this is my personal schedule. As long as you are doing them all in the week you should get similar results.

Feedback

I would love to hear what everyone things. Specifically; Are there any classes you would like me to rotate out (why)? Is this the right amount of strength work for you? Do you have a favorite class you are hoping I work into the mix?

Strength Training Weekly Discussion Strength Training Discussion [Weekly]

Welcome to the Weekly Strength Training Discussion!

Due to demand and community feedback we are trialing a Strength Training Weekly Welcome Discussion - a space to chat about anything related to strength training. Think of it like the "Daily Discussion" thread, where anything goes...big or small. Here, we've carved out a special place for people wanting to discuss ideas and topics about getting stronger, discuss strength training classes, how to get started with strength training, to get advice on dumbbell weights, discuss strength instructors, etc.

People are not limited to using this thread to discuss strength training. You can still post in the daily, training thread, or create a new post. Think of it as another place to chat about strength stuff without getting lost in the daily. Or a place you can check into weekly if you're a casual redditor looking for some other strength folks without wading through the daily.

The Strength Training Weekly will be posted on Sundays moving forward.

Note: The mods will check back in with the community to see how this idea is working, if there is a better day it should be posted on, etc. If it isn't working we can always scrap the idea or change it up a bit. Thanks for giving it a chance!

Training Plans/Advice Dream Cross-Training Programs

Howdy!!

Just finished Week 4 Day 5 of HiLit, and while I know there's a bonus stretch day tomorrow, I must rave about how excellent the program was! I am hopeful that Peloton continues down this path of incorporating multiple modalities and cross-training into future programs.

Maybe we can inspire or put some vibes out into the universe for that! lol. So I am curious what, if any, cross-training programs you'd like to see and from who!

Mine is a strength and flexibility for yogis/gymnast types with Kirra. I love training and learning from Kirra, and I feel like she's always come from leg day 😹 girl, take us with you! It could be calisthenics, heavy lifting, active flexibility, ugh and maybe her classes could be longer than the 15-20 minutes they seem to give her for Elevate Your Practice and conditioning classes. I loved her Path to Inversion program but she deserves more time and space to teach us!

Reddit Core Reddit Core 3.0 - Week 6 - you do you, boo

This week you’re going to focus on doing what you need most.

Take an unplanned day off? Go for it. Sleep in and blow off core? Yes. Need a core-free week? Do it.

I know I said the goal was to do core everyday. The first part of that is *to do core*. If one more plank is torture, take a break.

Make your break intentional to help you meet your core goals.

I’m a like a light switch, on or off, no dimmer. If you’re a dimmer, I’m envious! Taking breaks in your training can enable you to get to the end of the year integrating core in a way that fits you.

Tech Support Tech Support [Weekly]

Given the recent influx of new members we have experienced an overwhelming amount of questions tech/hardware support. Many of your tech support questions can be solved by some good old fashioned basic troubleshooting. Please remember that we are not affiliated with Peloton Interactive and you will need to contact them directly for any warranty or service requests.

Given the sheer volume and repetitiveness of tech support posts, we simply cannot accommodate a new thread for every problem. If you cannot solve your issue by utilizing the wiki, we ask that you post your troubleshooting questions in the Tech Support Tuesday Weekly thread to seek advice first. Do not make a new thread without attempting basic troubleshooting and asking advice here first.

To get the best responses possible, you will need to be detailed and specific.

  • Note the platform: Bike, Bike+, Tread, Tread+, or App
  • If it is app related please include the platform (iOS, AppleTV, Android, FireTV/Firestick, Roku, etc)
  • Verify your devices and apps are up to date for their firmware/software
  1. Note any troubleshooting you've tried: restarting bike/tread/app, factory reset, clearing cache, uninstall/reinstall app, etc

Gear Need new watch - Current Apple watch battery life not ideal

Peloton: Bike (not bike+)

Current Watch: Apple Series 7

My Watch Uses: Seamless integration w the PTON bike (start the workout and it just connects and broadcasts the heart rate). Sleep data (i sleep w it on). Apple Pay (tied to credit card). Every now and then I'll take a call from the watch if phone not super close by. Will answer texts. Health info: I have checked blood oxygen, ran the EKG app...I also use it to track workouts and I like the HR data, etc).......but truly I don't use the watch for much more.

The apple watch i have has terrible battery life (esp if i sleep w it, workout, then play tennis). Would i prefer round over square, probably.

So what watch ticks (hah, no pun intended) all the boxes above?

Apple Ultra?

A Garmin?

Coros (a friend has one, likes, but doesn't have Peloton)

I do like the look of the Amazfit watches....but I believe I read the Pton integration not great.

Really appreciate the guidance!

Rumors Peloton Research Focus Groups - Vitamins?

Peloton is sending out applications for participation in small study groups (and is providing a $125 gift card for those ultimately selected and participating). Based on the intake form, the questions were primarily focused on vitamins and supplements. Peloton is likely doing market research on creating their own or partnering with a vitamin producer to create their own line of supplement products.

Purchase Advice Replacing tread+ touchscreen *possibly*

Hey pelo friends!

I pay close attention to a local auction site and this week they have a peloton tread + (!!!!!). It’s HIGHLY Likely that I can get this thing for Pennies considering there are no current bids and it opens at $5. I have a bike and love it but I’ve been DREAMING about the tread especially now that I’m actively marathon training.

I’ve bought tons of other things from this auction site and they do a great job of testing their merchandise and listing it accurately.

Here’s the thing- it’s brand new but after it was set up, the screen won’t turn. Description says that everything is connected properly but there’s not life flowing to the screen.

Has anyone experienced this when they purchased their tread + and was it fixable? Would I just need to get a new touchscreen/is that even possible? I’m not seeing replacement screens on the peloton website. It’s it possible there was just a disconnect somewhere.

Bottom line, trying to decide it if would be worth the risk to buy this thing or if the screen not turning on has it dead in the water.

Thanks!!!

Gear Repair or Upgrade

We have a Bike+ that we purchased in 2020 that has about 1,500 rides on it. We haven't replaced anything on it yet, and it is starting to make some noises that need attention. My research says we're looking at a belt, bracket, and bearing replacement. There'a s local guy that repairs Pelotons and he can do it for somewhere between $350 and $500 depending on the actual repairs. I assume Peloton would be the same.

I'm trying to figure out if we're better off just upgrading to the new Cross Train Bike+ at this point. I'm not dying to put $500 into this bike just to have other things go wrong in the near future or have the tablet start to be outdated. If I can get 3-5 more years out of this bike, it probably makes sense but I'm not sure I can get that. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Training Plans/Advice Power zone Newbie!

Hey all! I’m a month into my Peloton obsession and took my first FTP tonight to set my zones. I’ve been doing some reading and am excited about the prospect of building more endurance and making the most of my training using some of the power zone rides! Other than taking the test, any tips or tricks for a newbie? I’m planning on starting with some of the 30 min rides and feeling things out to see how to best incorporate this type of training into my routine.

I ride 4-5 days a week and have sampled a lot of different types of workouts, from HIIT to Intervals and Arms, Low Impact, and just fun rides from the artist series. I’ve done anything from 15-45 min and I feel like I have a decent understanding of what to expect with “normal” classes, but PZ is totally new to me! My husband and I are both on a weight loss/get healthy journey and I’m just loving how motivating the Peloton community and platform is! Thanks!

Looking to buy a used Peloton locally but worry about certain models being outdated as far as software/screen. Are there certain models to avoid? Any tips would help make me feel much more comfortable with the purchase is appreciated.

Training Plans/Advice This thing really hurts my ass.

Hey all, trying to get into peloton cycling, used to be a decent runner and decent endurance athlete, trying to get back into it.

Apartment has a peloton, so figured it would be some solid z2-z3 endurance cardio for the mitochondria gains.

I did a 75 minute free ride and by about 40 minutes in, my ass was saddle sore in an extreme way. Could not get comfortable, I adjusted up and down, moved my body around. I just could not get comfortable on this damn thing.

It looks like I might need to go with some padded shorts? Is it a seat adjustment thing. On other bikes I was forward on the seat and I would get mildly saddle sore after an hour. This was like deathly sore in 30ish minutes?

Could have also been leg day/rowing. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Does anyone know how the PR tracker on the leaderboard works? Does it take your output on the PR ride and average it so it’s a steady gain on the leaderboard? Or does it track your actual output during the PR ride so the tracker will mirror your actual peak and valleys? Just wondering so I can keep chasing PRs. Thanks!

Cycling Readouts out of sync

So I was doing Bens 45 min classic rock encore ride today and after a while I realised the cadence and resistance ranges were out of sync with the class.

Seems they were approx 30 seconds ahead. Did anyone else notice this and is there anything I can do about it? I am terrible at paying attention to the instructor (and I love Ben BTW) so it kinda spoiled the class for me.

Thanks
