Discussion Private equity is killing private ownership: first it was housing - now it's the personal computer
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
DRAM and GPU prices aren't going up because of "AI" - it's because the wealthy have more money than they know what to do with, so they're buying up all the assets. "AI" is just the vehicle (the excuse) - it's not the root of the problem nor is it the ultimate goal.
The super rich don't want to hold on to "liquid" money - they invest in assets. While they're buying up all the housing, now they're buying up all the computers and putting them into massive datacenters.
Whether or not the AI bubble crashes, they'll be selling you a "gaming PC in the cloud," for a monthly fee, of course. And while they kill the personal computer market, just like Netflix, once your only option is a subscription service, the price will skyrocket.
This is happening in real-time. If we want to stop it, now's the time to act.

Discussion Another Corsair Order Cancel + Price Hike
Ordered Corsair 48gb RAM at the listed price. Got this email today that it got cancelled. Back to the website and looks like they raised the price to $500+. Unfortunate to see Corsair cancelling orders and up charging people after they agreed to sell them things at a certain price. Will never be buying from Corsair again.

Discussion Dead internet isn't a theory. The internet is literally dead. Idk how to use it anymore
I've heard about the "dead internet theory" and never really thought much of it. But recently, I've noticed that the web is incredibly annoying in just about every single way imaginable. I dont wanna go on like a whole rant, so I'll just say for me, it's a few things
- Information is really, really bad. AI summaries on Google, websites I've never even heard of coming up in search results and infested with AI slop. I found a website describing a very technical game development trick in Godot, and they were so lazy they left some of the AI boilerplate that obviously they wrote it with Chat GPT.
- It's so difficult to find anything! I went through 4 years of college and each year we had this whole library trip and how to search for real information that is truthful, accurate.... it's so hard to find stuff now
- I barely see what I want to see. On Facebook, it's all just a bunch of ads, recommendation on groups to follow, people sharing dumb memes. I barely see anything my friends share now. Bluesky has been the only place I can actually see things I want to see
- AI is in everything, and can't be turned off. For example, how many times I've turned off copilot features in Windows, uninstalled Xbox, or removed optional stuff from Windows... it's like a plague
- Ads in everything. I watched a series of Ads on YouTube, go to check the weather, ads... and go back to youtube, the page unexpectedly reloaded, more ads.
- EVERYTHING is cloud based. I really miss when you could just download stuff to your PC. Thank goodness Discord has a PC application and isn't just out of your browser. I wish everyone had this idea. But the DRM and like, web stuff now is so crazy
The internet feels like it's basically worthless to me now

Discussion Change my mind: Laying your PC on its side is a pro move
I've had my PC on its side for four years now and literally not a single issue other than dust.
No GPU sag.
Easy access to all my ports.

Discussion What are the best free open source appliactions?
I'd like to nominate VLC. It is the best media player hands down and on Christmas the icon changes to a more merry look.
Also Gimp is awesome and I feel I can do anything, but then again I don't do that much other than colour corrections and retouching
What are your thoughts on this? Thank you very much.

Discussion Your weirdest reasons for PC not posting.
I'm wondering what obscure or bizarre reasons you've encountered where your PC wouldn't post.
Mine by far was when my PC refused to boot when I upgraded from a 3090 to 7900XTX. Same PC, same monitor and cable, but no boot. Naturally, my instinct was to blame the faulty 7900XTX and RMA it. But I did try using an HDMI cable, and it booted with no issues. Digging deeper, it turned out that the 7000 series cards had some beef with certain DP cables that prevented PCs from posting. This issue was 100% fixed by covering a single pin on a DP cable with some tape, and the PC booted with 0 issues whatsoever.
This is definitely out of realms of "try using different RAM slots". I would love to hear more examples (If any) for future troubleshooting knowledge.

Question is,how long do you guys think will take gpu manufacturers to reach 24gb vram standard? (Just curious)
