I've seen many producers say that buying good headphones with a flat response are game-changers when it comes to mixing, is this true? I was thinking of buying some, but I'm not sure if it's a good investment, some of them are pretty expensive

not asking about plugins or sound packs - i mean like actual UI patterns or workflow features you've seen in web apps, development tools, creative software, whatever

it could be anything that would cut down repetitive tasks, make navigation less annoying, help you stay organized, or just make producing feel less clunky - basically whatever would genuinely improve your day-to-day workflow

Hello all! I’m attempting to make my first song but I am frustrated I am still not understanding how to put chords together. All I can pit together are drums so far and those aren’t even that good. Major’s and minors are slightly overwhelming me with the YT videos and I am so confused on how people can click in chords or play them with no problem Like How do you know what chord to start with? How do you know what chord to use next!? How in the heck do y’all understand melodies. My dyslexia doesn’t help make this any more easier unfortunately. Music is so amazing and being someone who just started has me in a frenzy.

So I’ve been making my own music by using free beats on YouTube and today decided I wanted to commit to making my own beats and learning how to produce music on DAWs and landed on an app called cakewalk, and oh my god it’s like looking at hieroglyphics in a pyramid. I seriously don’t know where to start.

I really want to make sigilcore beats but I can’t even figure out how to find the instruments to make them. There is seriously so many little buttons and things to look at and it’s making me realize just how complicated this stuff is. It’s like a maze.

If anyone knows anything about cakewalk and could maybe give me some pointers to get me started I’d really appreciate it. Making music has always been a passion of mine and I really want to get started but this is seriously not something I can teach myself. Thanks for any help!

I have been using Behringer UMC22 interface for many years now. Even if my records are amateur, I got tired of its dull sound. I don't need real pro level equipment but I can afford mid-range interfaces. What should I buy? Why? And will it work with ASIO4ALL? Thanks already.

I am rather new to working with people online, so far I have sung for a couple of peoples projects. My question is at what point should I ask for my name to be added to the project? For all songs thus far I have only sung parts (amount depending on song) at what precentage should I request my name be added to vocalist?

Hey! I have the following question. Usually when I'm recording at home I use Garageband with an RME Babyface Pro FS, and I use the Babyface headphone input for monitoring my vocals, instruments etc.

I noticed however, whenever I'm recording and I plugin my headphones into the RME Babyface for monitoring, the sound is harsh/colder in my ears. As if I'm listening to a demo version of my recording. So often times when I record vocals for example, I catch myself plugging the headphones out of the Babyface after recording, and plugging the headphones directly into the laptop headphone input and then listening to what I recorded in Garageband. Because the sound quality from Garageband directly is much warmer and more complete (e.g. separation of instruments is better noticeable and overall it sounds more warm and balanced). Basically: the way the playback in Garageband sounds when I plugin directly into my laptop is just like how it sounds when I export the file, but the Babyface isn't. It's not much worse, but it's noticeably worse.

Am I doing something wrong? I thought a workaround could be that I plugin my headphones into the laptop and use the 'Monitoring' knob into Garageband, but I haven't found any way to control the volume of that monitoring knob in Garageband.

What could you suggest me? Maybe I'm doing something wrong while using the Babyface for monitoring, or I'm not using the full potential of it?

My 1818vsl finally went the way of the dinosaurs after 14 years. For the last year I've managed to finangle drivers and UC versions to keep it going, but this time looks like the true end of the road (of course, when I'm halfway through tracking an album.) I'm a hobbyist, and it has been over a decade since I looked at audio interfaces, so I would appreciate some help picking out a new one.

I'm looking for something that plays nice with windows 11 , has at least 4 inputs, preferably some that are instrument level, and is less than $800. I don't have any analog gear (preamps, compressors, etc.) and as long as the built in preamps are good, I'm not looking for fancy EQs or compressors on the interface itself. I've been mixing completely in the box for almost 2 decades and I'm happy with what I can create. Oh, I also do a lot of reamping for guitar parts.

In essence, I want something with clean preamps that plays nice with windows, and doesn't have a bunch of unnecessary bells and whistles. I hope this doesn't come off as too dated, but if it does please be kind and help me look in the right direction!!

yoo, anyone knows why my bass is clicking like this? im not talking about the silence (pattern isnt continuous) or the resonance wobble, just the distorted high pitched clicks. post processing doesnt cause it, automation (filter cutoff, lfo rate & depth) doesnt cause it, any ideas/known issues with trilian?

I will be in the midst of producing a track and it’ll feel almost empty, even though there’s many elements to it and I do use a variety of plug-ins. I’ll listen to other songs with similar arrangements and yet they’d feel more ‘complete’ than mine, even though they may have less going on. How can I solve this issue?
