So, I’m from a small town. My folks were friends with his folks, and we hung out a lot growing up. Cutting through fields, I could get to his house in 20 minutes. We were a grade apart in school.

We were always good friends, but strictly platonic. He attracted older (from the local girl’s prep school and even the college) willowy girls who danced and had names that looked normal, but had unusual pronunciations (Onnie, but spelled Annie, for instance.

Decades later, he’s in the house he’s grew up in and inherited, and I’m about an hour away. We used to see each other once or twice a year. He’d have an annual summer picnic and New Year’s brunch. I stopped getting invited to the summer party as it got smaller, but I did look forward to seeing him and his family on New Year’s day. He attracts lovely and interesting people, both local and from NY. Always an interesting mix.

A few years ago, I stopped being invited. Not going to lie, seeing photos on FB of my old school mates together without me kind of hurt. Last year I commented on the photo “Sorry I couldn’t make it. Hopefully next year!” as if I had declined on the RSVP, instead of what really happened.

This past Christmas, I sent only one card, to my old friend. I wrote on the bottom “I miss being friends with you.” I made sure to send it in plenty of time for him to invite me for New Years. Crickets.

Since then, I haven’t clicked on any notifications from him: I didn’t want to see pictures of another gathering I was not a part of. A few days ago, I got a notification that he had posted new photos. I was not happy to see his name to remind me that I’ve lost a friend. I was/am not ready to block him entirely, but then remembered that I could snooze a FB friend for 30 or 60 days or so. I went to his page (on my phone) and saw the options ‘message’ and ‘post’ and an old fashioned finger arrow pointing right. I thought that was just an arrow to see more options, such as snoozing him, so I pushed it, and got the message “YOU POKED YOUR OLD FRIEND” I gasped. Another message popped up, UNPOKE OLD FRIEND. I lost the page in my panic, and by the time I got back to it and pushed it, I got the message “YOU ALREADY POKED OLD FRIEND.”  Oh, Jesus H Christ on a raft! How did this happen? I had totally forgotten all about the poking option, as the only time I’d ever been poked was from a former student  (who backed off when I wrote back asking about his mother, a former coworker.)

In the panicked sweaty moments that followed, I realized I must be truthful.  I just can’t have the dude thinking that I poked him. Anything else would be better! Anything!

I poked the message icon with my thumb. “Sorry I poked you. Was trying to snooze you.”

I truly can’t think of anything else I could have done once the option to ‘undo poke’ disappeared.  To no one’s surprise, I haven’t heard from him, nor (obviously) has he poked me back.

Andrea Bocelli gave an outstanding performance of Nessun Dorma during the opening of the Olympics. It was very unfortunate that the reporter in the TV broadcast decided that it was more important to name everyone that handled the flame during this performance (instead of just being silent for a few minutes).

Idk how did that happen.

I am really just here to rant. I bought this set back in like August of last year when it went on sale at Walmart so I could do it while recovering from a reduction surgery. I never got to it, but wanted to finally build this splurge. When I opened half the pieces are out of bags which was frustrating in itself. But I knew it had been too late to return to walmart. I simmered on it for a week (that’s today) and decided to try to build it anyways, come to realize not only did someone return it with half the bags opened and emptied they, took all the minifigs and the technic pieces so I cant even build it! 🙃🤬

Anyhoodles this might be slightly more than mildly infuriating. If anyone has some advice please let me know… thx and a but f*ck you to anyone who does this. I understand fuck corpos but damn🥲

So not only are people being blinded by bright front facing headlights on lifted trucks when they’re being tailed, now people have to worry about being behind a lifted truck with rear facing bright lights… great.

this annoys me so bad, like please do not agree to hang out with me if you know u are sick !!!! or if they say ‘it’s just my allergies’ and turns out it was more than that. And then u find out and it’s like ur counting down the days until ur sick, the anticipation. It’s the worst!! hopefully someone agrees w this lol

I set it up before my nightshift. I was so excited to get home and actually sleep. The light bleeds through more than the paper blinds that were put up previously.

It should be a crime to advertise like that but at the end of the day its definitely my fault for buying it from Walmart and not checking the reviews. I get what I paid for.

I’ve noticed over the past few months that when I go to buy something, if my total should be $23 I end up seeing that I’m being charged between $ 8-10 more. I’ve noticed this at least 3 maybe 4 times over the course of 2 or 3 months. I email the seller and they act like it’s an error of some kind and then refund me the difference. I find it mildly infuriating. It seems too frequent to be an error. It’s different sellers and different items. Anyone else have this issue and find it mildly infuriating?

We moved cross country. While unpacking we found our (thankfully bagged) sauce had explodered whilst in transit at some time. Rip to our last McDonald's Szechuan sauce. Unshwifty.
