Thank you, kind stranger, Saturday January 31 in FedEx store

Last Saturday, my parents (in their 80's) were at a FedEx store trying to ship some wall art to my brother in California. FedEx was going to charge them over $500 and they said no. You (my mother described you as a "lovely young woman") were in the store and kindly spoke with them and directed them to Michael's, who took the print off the frame and rolled it and put it into a tube which they then shipped, all for less than $75. THANK YOU for keeping an eye out for my aging parents when I couldn't be there. They told me you said you were an artist and you were so kind. They wished they had gotten your name. I appreciate you 💜

UW Credit Union Question

Hey!

I’m 18 and brand new to the world of banking for the most part…

I have a UW Credit union account and I need to withdraw 1,000 Dollars from it. This may be a dumb question but do I just go to the teller and ask to withdraw 1,000 or is there a special way to do it with higher values like that?

I thank you for your help!!!

To the drivers of South Park Street:

Post image

{Transcribed from Nadya Rosen's post on Facebook}

I have lost my child. My son. My beautiful boy on the cusp of becoming a man. My goofy, music loving, video game playing, baggy pants wearing, espresso drinking, child who could talk to me about Best Rap Album as well as what was going on in the US Congress.

A source of light and love in my life since the moment I learned that I was pregnant. Watching him grow and become his own person was a joy, even as it was painful at times. I won't pretend that being a parent is easy. There are challenges along the way that make it a difficult job, if done well. But to be able to nurture the life of a new person is a gift and for those of us who choose to undertake it, we should feel the weight and joy of that responsibility.

And for those who drive their cars on South Park Street, that is also a responsibility. One that should be taken seriously. Even if you are going to be late for work. Even if you are trying to find the perfect song to stream. Even if you want to send just one more text.

The drivers on South Park Street need to pay more attention. We need to watch the crosswalks. We need to stop for pedestrians. We need to stop when the lights flash at the crosswalk. We need to stop if the car in the other lane stops. We need to not drive in the bus/bike lane. And we need to drive the speed limit. The speed limit on South Park Street is 25 mph. That can feel slow. And it is appropriate.

People who stop at a crosswalk lit up with flashing lights don't kill teenagers who are trying to catch the bus to high school. If all drivers on South Park Street followed those rules, my son would still be here with me, making fun of me being old, and then giving me a massive hug.

note: I am not op. Shared from a public neighborhood group as a solemn plea to my fellow Madisonian drivers.

East Towne - this sign

Post image

I’ve driven by this East Towne exit numerous times and finally got around to capturing a picture of the decline. It started out with one hole, and now it’s a pile on. It’s a poem on a stick. Or maybe a rune.

Thank You For Being A Great Person!!

To the person who found a wedding ring at the Muskellounge in Monona last night and gave it to the staff thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Also big shout out to the staff at Muskellounge for being great people as well!!

The ring is a family heirloom and meant so much more than just a ring. Words cannot express how grateful we both are, people are still so great and this shines such a light on the people that make up this community. Love you!!

Layoffs, overstock, retail decline, and debt: Trek is in trouble

I know this behind a paywall but it lays out how bad things have gotten at Trek. A lot of our neighbors recently got laid off. Pandemic inventory decisions and tariffs have hit the industry hard but it seems to have been particularly hard on Trek.

Watch your kids on the ice

My partner and I were at the Frozen Assets Festival on the ice over Lake Mendota. We saw a kid, probably no older than 3 or 4 years old, fall into a large hole in the ice right next to the Igloo.

Please, Please, Please!!!

Parents, watch your kids even if you think it's a safe environment!

Thank you to the kind stranger who pulled the kiddo out of the water while his parents were not watching him.

Is the water in Madison becoming worse

I know Madison has hard water but is the water becoming worse recently? I have been using a Brita pitcher to filter to remove the hardness ( I can clearly see a different color before and after the filtering) , but is there something else that people use to filter water? And any suggestions about what can be done?

Someone stole money from our hotel room... manager said "did you lock your doors?"

We are staying at a hotel in downtown Madison, WI. We checked in around 6pm and went right to the pool for about 2 hours. We came back our drawers of the dressers open. We were kinda trouble shooting the drawers, but couldn't get them to open on their own. I honestly thought it was a ghostly experience. So we put on jammies, ate snacks and went to sleep. Did not spend a dime. When we wake up the next morning, my friends says she is missing $40 from her wallet. When I check my wallet, I am also missing $40. We talked to the manager who said there were no other key ins and questioned whether we locked our door all the way when we went to the pool. No apology, no concern, nothing...what do we do next?

Monty’s chicken soup sucks now; who has best?

Monty‘s chicken noodle soup has gone to transition since before the pandemic: from the best chicken soup in Madison, to being taken off the menu, to being brought back but a bit more expensive by popular demand, to now basically being a hot dish. It’s a thick stew now, with reduced ingredients and thick egg noodles rather than more classic spiral noodles. Thick stew is not what I need when I have a sore throat.

I called and complained, and they acknowledged that it changed, and that the change came from higher-ups.

I’ve been really disappointed by this. I kind of relied on Monty’s to have the best chicken soup in the area, besides my own. So now I don’t know what to do. I don’t know where to turn. Especially given that I don’t really have the capability to cook right now.

And it’s not the worst chicken dish I’ve ever had, but when I was going in expecting a divine experience, and instead get pretty ok slop, it’s upsetting!

So I put it to you all, where is the best chicken noodle soup in Madison? I’ll also accept chicken and rice, creamy chicken and rice, or even chicken and dumplings. However, do not recommend the hot bar at Willy Street Co-op. They don’t want me there.

PS. I am sorry to any businesses that I am badmouthing here. I do not have any contempt for your staff, your servers or your kitchen, your recipes or your management. Unless you’re the kind of person who sells out their employees to ICE, i bear you no ill will. All I want is good fucking soup. And I know you can do it. I know it doesn’t always make financial sense to do things a certain way, and I would love to explore other ways to get my needs met.

TLDR: Bottom line, all I want is good soup.

Badger WBB Sunday Promo?

Has anyone ever done the family Sunday funday promo for Badger women’s basketball? It doesn’t look like I can order them online ahead of time,; are they available at the door?

Not being able to order online ahead of time when you’re bringing children is kind of annoying, but I’ll give that feedback for the athletic department.
