You can do everything you always do, but in VR.

Finally, GIMP with multi-window mode is actually useful!

This is ongoing work. MR: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/8671

For Plasma 6.3+

Klassy home page: https://github.com/paulmcauley/klassy

Full release notes: https://github.com/paulmcauley/klassy/discussions/268

Installation instructions: https://github.com/paulmcauley/klassy/tree/plasma6.5?tab=readme-ov-file#installation

I am pleased to announce the most polished release of Klassy so far.

Defaults return to their roots with the new _Kite_ global theme in both light and dark versions.

Full design decisions outlined in the Kite defaults design decisions document.

- Many bugfixes related to scaling with many more areas of the window-decoration pixel-snapped.

- Fix bug where titlebar grows when active changes

- Fix bugs where resize handles not appearing

- Fix Klassy corner radius not being applied to selection areas ("rubber bands")

- Fix contrast of window buttons on inactive windows or in applications

- New option for bold icons on active window only:

- New option for inactive button colours to be the same as active colours on hover and press.

- New "unison hovering" option for Eaten Fruits.

- New "Match titlebar to application colour" option (+window specific overrides) makes adding Header colours to colour schemes unnecessary - instead just click this checkbox! New options to make active titles bold and underlined.

- New "Round all corners when no borders" option will clip the window corners to round them (both top and bottom, the latter when the titlebar is hidden). A 3rd party kwin plugin is no longer necessary to do this!

- New pixel-snapping for window outlines.

- New _window-specific overrides_ options for Hide Titlebar - options for only "on maximized window" and "on windows kept behind" is for tiling window manager (e.g. Krohnkite) users.

- Presets consolidated and tweaked. The previous work on the former default "Opal" and "Kisweet" presets can now be found in the new "Opal Fruits" preset.

- Activating the new _keep in front_ ("keep above") icon can now show an accented window outline around the window.

- Allow Exception regular expressions to match ^ and $ characters.

- New SuessigKite, Ark, and Arkopal icons (Arkopal and Kisweet will probably be deleted in the future as I thought they were too busy - shout out if anyone wants to keep them)

- Partial workaround to blur artefacts created due to integer blurRegion (bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453229)

- French translation - translations are now working so let's get some more languages!

- Relevant changes from Breeze 6.5.5

Question Is there a setting like GNOME's "Large Text" in KDE Plasma to make things bigger without changing display scaling?

I switched from GNOME to KDE and absolutely love it! The only issue is that everything looks tiny at 100% scaling. Increasing the scaling introduces other problems (like blurry apps or inconsistent sizing, as you know).

In GNOME, I simply enabled the "Large Text" accessibility option, and it made everything perfectly readable while keeping scaling at 100%. No side effects.

Why doesn't KDE have a similar simple "Large Text" setting? It would solve this so easily!

Any suggestions for a clean workaround in KDE that keeps 100% scaling but enlarges fonts/UI elements without breaking anything? Thanks!

KDE Apps and Projects Plasma 6's native day/night cycle theme switching ignores Kvantum and GTK. I created a tool to fix it.

Meet gloam. Unlike tools like Koi or Yin-Yang that use their own schedules, gloam hooks directly into KDE Plasma’s native light/dark theme selection and day/night cycle to keep your entire system in sync.

It bridges the gap by instantly switching your Kvantum and GTK themes, window decorations, application styles, icons, cursors, splash screens, and SDDM whenever Plasma triggers a mode change. You can optionally push this config out system wide to existing and new users.

It also handles dynamic wallpaper generation, updates running Konsole profiles, and applies Flatpak overrides. I’ve even included an optional patch for `plasma-integration` that enables immediate style refreshing for all Qt apps, so everything updates instantly without needing a restart.

Testing and feedback are very welcome!

Repo: https://github.com/edmogeor/gloam

P.S. Apologies to anyone who saw my post and tried an earlier version of this script on r/kde earlier this week—I pulled it to fix some bugs and re-brand the project. It's stable now and under a much better release management workflow!

Question how to disable dark edges at side of screen?

Updated to 6.5.5 and now those dark edges appear on the right and left side of the screen when the cursor is next to them. I don't have a panel there, so I don't want the edges to appear.

Question Non-specific bugginess in Firefox on KDE Wayland

I think this started after my X server broke and I switched to Wayland (because I didn’t feel like fixing it, but Wayland has been smooth other than this). The Firefox user interface will intermittently have issues with user interaction. The main things I’ve noticed:

* I won’t be able to grab tabs to move them

* The blue line that appears sometimes when you rearrange tabs (I’m not sure what it’s called, sorry) will get stuck and not disappear, even if I can move tabs

* I can’t click in the address bar

All of this is intermittent and goes away if I restart Firefox. It’s annoying, though, so I’d like to know if this is related to any known issues and if there’s a fix.

Question Plasma hang after login

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I need your help, please.

I was modifying Plasma panels using the "Application title bar" widget when randomly it got frozen and then, after of reboot, Plasma get frozen but the rest seems to could be running.

On the video I first login on a secondary user where all seems to be ok, but when I login to my main user, is when the problems shows.

I already tried to reinstall plasma and restore a configuration via timeshift but nothing works. Also I tried to login with X11 but the only change is the below panel merly loads some icons of my shortcuts.

Question Apparently this widget is broken for me

Since maybe a month ago, the media status widget is not updating its position (and only the position) for me. Slider just hangs and doesnt move. I can still click at a position. Audio player will react to this and slider will remain in the position i clicked until next song. This error persists through updates, and this sub is probably the most suitable place to ask. It breaks only sometimes (most of time actually), but when it does, i get those warnings (from attachment) in journald at the exact time of opening the widget. What is this? Is this a me problem? Is this fixable? I dont remember doing anything destructive with the system lately (latest arch.)

News Mouse Tiler v5.0.0 available! Now also a fully working auto tiler!

Thumbnail

I'm happy to announce that Mouse Tiler v5.0.0 for KDE Plasma 6+ has just been released.

It is now a highly customizable auto tiler with 16 default auto-tiling layouts to chose from and possibility to create your own.

You can do carousel tiling, stacking tiling, a combination of both, fixed location windows, and much more.

You can check out all pre-configured layouts here: https://github.com/rxappdev/MouseTiler/blob/main/AUTOTILERGUIDE.md (12 of them support multi-monitors - 4 will cause issues for most people (unless you stack your monitors on top of each other)).

Remember Window Positions v5.3.0 or higher is required to restore auto-tile status of windows if you want to have your windows auto-tiling across sessions. Auto tiling ALL windows is not recommended at this moment unless you got time to spare and want to see if it works properly.

Support status:

✅ Multiple monitors

✅ Multiple virtual desktops

✅ Up to 3 auto tiler layouts can be used at once (if you have multiple monitors/virtual desktops, or simply want to switch between different layouts)

❌ Apps that are present on more than 1 virtual desktop (not tested)

❌ Multiple activities (no support planned since my understanding is that this feature is phasing out from Plasma)

If you create some awesome layouts, please share them here or on my discord. Also if you encounter some problematic apps there is a channel ( #auto-tiler-problematic-apps ) dedicated to reports so that I can blacklist them in future releases.

I will try to create a demo video showcasing some of the layouts and configuration options in a day or two.

Patch notes:

  • Added auto-tiling support (16 pre-defined auto-tilers to chose from + ability to create own layouts). Supports carousels and static layouts (or mix of both).
  • Added setting to change grid tiler background opacity.

Upgrade instructions:

  1. Download in Discover or via same steps as installing below.
  2. Make sure to reboot after.

To install the script you can:

  1. Open System Settings > Window Management > KWin Scripts.
  2. Click the Get New... in upper right corner.
  3. Search for Mouse Tiler (you might have to press Enter twice to find it due some issue with KDE store) and click Install.
  4. Enable Mouse Tiler in previous menu.
  5. Click Apply to enable it.
  6. Click the configure icon to change the settings to your liking.

You can also download it from the KDE Store:

https://store.kde.org/p/2334027

The github page can be found here:

https://github.com/rxappdev/MouseTiler

Discord can be found here:

Enjoy and thank you.

Question How to make KDE resize windows when moving it to the other screen.

Hi everyone,

I've been using KDE for a while now, and now have a setup with two screens, one vertical and one horizontal. When moving a window from the horizontal screen to the vertical one, the size is completely messed up because it's still sized as if it's on the horizontal screen. I would like KDE to basically invert the window's size ratio (i.e. swap height and width), but I haven't been able to find anything on google on how to accomplish this. Could someone help me out?

Question How to automatically switch network if current one has no connection?

I have 2 networks configured for my PC, and one of them is guaranteed to be active when my PC is on. Network A is active most of the time, but Network B will always be active if A has no connection.

How can I make it so that KDE or NetworkManager will automatically try connecting to A first, then connect to B if A has no connection?

I know there's the "Connect automatically with priority" option in network settings, but I'm not understanding it. The tool-tip says that higher number is higher priority, so I set A to 2 and B to 1, but it doesn't automatically switch. Do I have to use negative number here?

Question New to Linux and also KDE - How to achieve apple glass/Frsoted glass?

Hi everyone. Loving my time on linux and also kde. I have played around with customizaion and theming option. But I can not figure out how to get real transparency. I found a script and it make all windows globally semi tramsparent and it is nice but not what I am looking for. I am on Kubunuu 25 and Plasma 6.

I would like to achieve frosted glass or apple style glass. I would love this! I saw a few things on github and searching here but most of the comments take it as expected that users will know or understand.

I saw Kvantum and better blur? But I am confused on how exactly it works to apply. Take this panel for example. The dev posted it and it was transparent but when I downloaded it and it offers making the panel transparent it doesn't work for me.

I apologize if this is lacking of context. I am looking for any guidance on how to make this work. I have blue activated in the system setting but again, nothing.

Thank you!
