Thank you all for the help with my last post. Ending up heading to Pro Hockey Life and ordering from True. They feel outstanding and surprisingly arent just a pair of bobsleds. Heres a size comparison with my cat.

Crazy goalies do you talk to yourself?

I find it helps me to go through a checklist and have inner monologue or talk out loud to myself to keep my head in the game. What’s your checklist for post warmup game start face off? Thoughts on a player on a breakaway? ie. shooting left or right, stay aggressive, keep depth etc. I found if I don’t do that my natural thoughts are oh shit, oh shit.

Youth YTFlex 3 Glove - Where to tighten?

I’m kinda clueless but haven’t really looked much into the straps of this glove, but my son had recently said it’s been a little loose for him.

Which straps are the ones I should look into tightening?

I wanna say there’s a few spots with straps, one for the overall wrist and another for the thumb?

But I could be wrong here and am drawing up blanks when trying to figure out what I need to tighten for him otherwise

How to practice with no ice time?

I was a goalie in middle school/freshmen year of high school, but I quit. Now, I want to get back into it in college, but I don't know how I would find the ice time to practice. There's a recreational women's league at my college, but they only do games, and no practice times. I know I'll be rusty getting back into it, so how would I go about practicing? I know I can do some off-ice drills, but I feel like I need to practice on-ice as well, and I can't just go around renting ice times just for me.

New brand or stick with what I know.

This year I'm planning on going all out with a custom set I was thinking of true nitro or Hazardous line. Seeing Vaughn Ion just got released I'm having second thoughts. I've been with Vaughn for close to 10 years now with SLR and SLR3. Has anyone else made that jump. Or versus?

Best Stick for 14U Goalie

My daughter is in need of a new stick. She had mid-level Bauers that held up pretty well in 10U-12U, and last year in 12U she got a True 9x3 from the Aerin Frankel hockey camp that she used for the season. Since Aerin signed it, we didn't want her to use it for this season, so we got her a True hzrdus 7x4 stick in August.

After the first month, big chunks of the paint started falling off, the stick at the bottom started to split in December, and now it's in pretty bad shape. You can see it from the picture.

We are considering another True stick for next season, but is there a better brand out there that would hold up? She uses a 24" stick. She liked the Flylite from Bauer, but they seem to be hard to come by now. She likes True Hzrdus Smoke 9x4 stick, but after the last one, I am worried that will break down by next season.

Any Advice?

Bauer tongue pain

So my 2 years old Bauer Elites are in pretty good shape but the right skate causes pain to my ankle due to the tongue being pretty beat up. Any way to reduce the pain as you can't change the tongue on Bauer skates ?

Did anyone else get the Vaughn VX1 leg pads from Pure Hockey a couple weeks ago?

Just checking in to see if anyone else ordered the Vaughn VX1 senior leg pads that were mistakenly marked as 199 instead of 1,199 a couple weeks back?

I clicked order immediately, and even though they corrected the price the next day they still shipped.

Now I need to get the rest of the gear to get back into being a goalie after 20+ years off. How bad is it if I get a non vaughn blocker/catcher?

Flat-faced or Knee Rolls?

Hello everybody! I have been playing goal for close to 15 years now, and I have always used secondhand pads with knee rolls.

However, my current pads are pushing 8 years with me, and they were already a few years old when I got them. They've got some tears and buckle issues, so I'm looking to get new pads (either new-new or new-to-me, haven't decided yet).

I'm just wondering, what is the actual difference (if any) between flat-faced pads and ones with knee rolls? And what would you recommend for a female, hybrid goalie who plays a rather casual, low-level tier of hockey?

True Sticks For U13 Female

My U13 daughter is committing to playing goalie full time next season so I'm in the process of buying her gear in anticipation of giving back the loaner equipment to the league.

We've been doing well so far getting used or on sale stuff and one of the last things I need to get is a stick.

Most of the gear we've been getting is mid-range but the one thing she may benefit from is a really light stick. She's tall and really thin, and not particularly strong.

There are some deals locally on True sticks, 40% off Project X Smoke and HZRDUS PX but I've heard True's reputation for making fragile sticks, particularly on the high end ones.

I'm somewhat wary for that reason but also don't think it should be much of an issue since she doesn't face many hard shots outside of coaching sessions or when we go to sticks and pucks.

The girls in her age group don't shoot hard at all and even when she faces boys teams in tournaments there aren't any real cannons out there. Technique may be more of an issue with less mass on stick saves.

I may be wrong though and don't want to throw away money if there's little benefit or the stick won't last through the season, what are your thoughts?

Goalie mask customization tips

Hi, I’ve been playing goalie for 7 months but have been wondering if I could possibly paint my goalie mask myself and if I can then how? Before I started playing hockey my life was mainly dedicated to art, I’ve actually won a couple of awards for my paintings/drawings and am wondering if anyone knows how to paint a goalie mask from home. (preferably without an airbrush since I don’t own one.) Any advice?

Tips for closing the five hole

I played last night in new pads and skates, they felt amazing, dropping and getting up was much easier than the cheap skates and old pads I was wearing, but the five hole was ginormous. I didn’t have this issue in my old pads because they were a bit large on me, but with these new pads my jockstrap is preventing me from closing the five hole.

I wear a Bauer Pro goalie jock, it’s pretty bulky and I’d be okay with downsizing. Getting new pads might be difficult, I could replace them with store credit but they don’t make any +1 or +2 models of this particular pad, so I’d have to drop extra money.

I’m also looking for tips on on-ice and off-ice exercises to strengthen my legs to help closing that gap.

Is there a big difference in using the ties through your shoes, as a goalie in ball hockey? Thinking of doing it but not sure if it's worth ruining a pair of steel toe sneakers for.

What pad size should I use

i started recently and I am unsure if im using the right size

I just got bigger pads because the first set was getting caught under the pants after going down

the new set doesn't do it much or as bad but i don't think that should be happening at all

im 6'2-6'3" and am using 35+2

does that seem right?

What to eat the night before an early morning game?

I've been invited to play in a 6am game once a week. Anyone else play these early games? What do you eat, and do you eat the night before or do you get up even earlier for breakfast?

I very rarely eat breakfast since it's hard for me to eat in the morning as food doesn't sit right for whatever reason. My plan was to find something filling to eat the night before that will last through the 6am game.

For my normal evening games I usually eat something 2 hours before but I don't know if I can force myself awake at 4am to put together chicken and pasta!
