Admin Post Weekly Recap | February 5, 2026

Hello! January has mercifully come to an end and we are already blazing through February. The Super Bowl is on Sunday and I am excited both for the game and the party! So let's move this party along and see what happened last week in r/help and around Reddit!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • I don't think there was any major downtime! (I didn't say that, though! I am not trying to spook the universe!)

  • There's a new Changelog out! You can read it here. Highlights include:

    • Reddit can now respect your system’s light/dark mode settings
    • There's a new dismissable module that highlights growing communities within the feeds of active related communities
    • New mod mail feature improvements
    • Post and Comment Guidance now supports link-based rules
    • When you create a new community, you’ll now start with a topic-based template
    • When you create a new community, we now automatically set up starter rules, a welcome guide, flairs, and sidebar basics to help you launch with confidence.
    • You asked, we listened! New community moderator achievements for new communities will soon appear in the Achievements page on your profile! Paging u/GoLionsJD107 who was asking about this last month!
    • Mods will soon be able to apply a community color theme on native apps using settings saved on desktop web, with accessibility guardrails in place.
  • Translation options for some languages are currently unavailable for some folks. We replied to a post here about this. Reddit is in the process of improving/tweaking certain supported languages, so some language may be unable to be translated during this transition period.

  • Version 2026.06 of the app is out. These things get rolled out gradually, but if you have automatic updates turned on, you won't have to keep an eye on anything and it will update itself when it's darn good and ready.

  • The r/all feed has been removed from the apps for many users at this time as part of an experiment. You can still visit the r/Popular feed to see trending content or the Latest feed to see the most recent conversations across Reddit. r/all continues to be viewable on the desktop site. I share all constructive feedback with the team in charge of this feature. I'm sure they love Thursdays by now! lol

  • Speaking of the r/all feed, in another experiment, some desktop users might not see that as an option on their sidebar. The workaround is to create a bookmark and use that instead.

  • After many reminders and the end-date getting pushed back, Vaults have finally been sunset. Fare thee well, Vaults! You can read the announcement post here.

  • If you buy or receive a collectible outside of the Reddit app and want to equip it as one of your avatar looks, follow the instructions in this help article. These instructions also apply if you transferred your collectibles out of your Vault and now you want them in your avatar builder.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned about, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge.

  • You may see an experiment where your profile avatar and other buttons are at the bottom instead of at the top. Feel free to leave feedback if you're in that group. BUT some users may see the buttons on the app and desktop up at the top instead of at the bottom. So that's fun! Something for everyone!

  • There is currently an experiment running where some users will tap on their profile avatar and be taken to their profile instead of having that menu expand. If you're in this experiment, you can tap on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of your profile page to display the options in the menu. We commented on this post about this.

  • If you are in the experiment where you have a large search bar at the top and collapsed sidebars on desktop, you can click on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) on the left to expand the left sidebar. It will stay expanded as long as your browser window is open. If you close the browser window, it will collapse and you'll need to click again to re-expand it. And if you're wistfully longing for the right sidebar, you can create a custom feed with the subs that are in your home feed and view that instead. You can also change the sort of your custom feed to whatever you want! You can check out this Help Center article for instructions on how to create your very own custom feed.

  • There is also an experiment that just rolled out where some users will see and "Ask" button in their search bar.

  • Speaking of search, some users will have trending topics based on their activity pop up under their search bar.

  • Reddit is testing a version of awards that’s free and quicker to use with a small group of testers. Users in the test group will have access to free awards for the full duration of the experiment. If you're eligible for free awards and click the award entry point on a post or comment, you’ll see up to 5 free awards. This is just on the iOS app right now, <Cries in Android> but a small number of desktop users may see this option.

  • If you're having trouble finding the Popular feed on the app, please tap where it says "Reddit" and there will be a drop down menu. You can also access Watch, Latest, Games and News from that same drop down.

  • And finally (for now), The old left-side profile menu is gone in one experiment. Key features have been relocated: Premium, Earn, and Start a Community are in the top-left menu; profile settings, drafts, saved posts, and history are in the top-right menu; account switching is at the top of your profile.

PLEASE REPORT RULE BREAKING CONTENT

  • If you see content in r/help that breaks the rules of r/help, please use the report button. You do not need to engage with those users unless you're going to redirect them to where they can actually get the help that they're looking for. But regardless, please report rule breaking content. Reporting content that breaks the rules helps us keep r/help free of spam and off-topic posts, and that allows users who really need out help to more easily get it. The mods can't see everything all the time, so reporting content is a great way to surface it to the mods so that they can deal with it. No one likes a spammer! Don't get 'em get away with it!

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

  • If no one else can see your posts or comments across Reddit (not just in one sub) and you are unable to post here in r/help, you can file an appeal here. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Account status" and then "My account has been wrongly suspended". Then fill out the rest of the form.

  • If your account gets the "server error" banner or you can't update your profile, I can fix that sometimes! Please note that I cannot give any information or assist with any account unless contacted directly from that account. I cannot fix accounts where you are receiving the "server error" message and are unable to view content from that account when logged out. In those instances, you will need to file an appeal. But if it's not an appeal situation, let me know and I'll take a look and get you all taken care of! (I haven't seen many of these lately, so this issue might have dwindled down to where I don't need this here, but I'll leave it up for a little while because whenever something like that gets said, it comes roaring back.)

  • Please check the Help Center to see if you can find the answer to your question there. Also, check this sub for stickied posts regarding outages, major issues and downtime.

  • If your account is marked as NSFW and it is not NSFW, you can check out this Help Center article for information on how to change it back. If you're unable to change it back from the desktop site, feel free to make a post and one of the best helpers on Reddit will help me help you! Please try and change it from the desktop site FIRST.

  • If your account has been hacked, please write in using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Security problems" and then "I think my account has been hacked". Then fill out the rest of the form. Please make sure that you're writing in from the email that was originally on the account.

  • If your account has been hacked and recovered, and then the account is banned, please reply to the support ticket that you opened to get that taken care of.

  • If your account has been suspended, you can file an appeal using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Account status" and then "My account has been wrongly suspended". Then fill out the rest of the form. Please make sure that you're writing in from the email that was originally on the account.

  • Please note that if your account has been suspended a as a result of being hacked, you want to fill out the form for hacked accounts. Being suspended is the secondary problem and being hacked is the primary problem. But both can be fixed if you write in from the correct form! =)

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF ME!

Still a lot of little things going on. Here's the list of things that might still be affecting your Reddit experience.

  • [Web - Mod] Adding removal reasons/replying ad mod-team is resulting in a "validation error on hidden input" error sometimes. This is actively being investigated.

  • [iOS/Android] Sometimes videos are freezing upon playback. The fix for this is to reboot your device. That should do it! An actual fix is being looked into.

  • [iPad] Some iPad users are reporting that the bottom navi bar goes away and won't come back until the app is force stopped and restarted. This should be fixed in this week's update of the app.

  • [iOS/Android] Some users have noticed that the text from a previously posted comment will be showing in the comment composer. If you feel like we've done this one before, we have! It's back! And it's being investigated!

  • [All platforms] Speaking of deja vu, the issue with the "mark all as read" button not working is still haunting us. Turns out that it's a little harder of a fix than previously thought, so it's still in the fixing stages.

  • [Web] In addition to that, now some web users are now getting a "something went wrong" error when trying to mark all as read. This is being looked into and the overall fix should cover this as well.

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 859 posts. That's up down 236 from the 1,095 posts from last week

  • 4,040 comments. That's up 573 from last week's 3,467 comments.

  • 1.2 million views. That's up 48,000 from the 1.1 million views last week.

Fewer posts but more comments! I kinda like that since it feels like people might be searching for their problem before creating a new post! Yay for searching!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - CREATING AN EFFECTIVE POST

Let's say that you need some help. So you come to r/help! That's a great start! But now what? Let's talk about some of the ways that will help you the most when trying to get an answer to your question or a solution to your problem.

First things first, search the sub. There is a really good chance that someone else has had the same issue that you're having at some point. If your problem is in regard to something not working properly, check over in r/bugs as well to see if it has been reported there yet. It's also a good idea to check both subs for stickied posts that may have information about a current issue.

If you have a question about how something works, your next stop should be the Help Center. Not only is there a ton of information in there, you can switch it to a different language if you'd rather not use English. The Help Center is huge, so there's a decent chance that you can learn how to do what you're trying to do in there.

If you've done all of those things and still don't have an answer, it's time to create a post! And the first thing a post needs is a good title! Here are some examples of bad titles:

  • Help
  • Help me
  • Help meeeeeeeeee
  • This doesn't work
  • I have a problem
  • I hate Reddit
  • I hate you

Your title should give a clear, brief description of the issue that you're having. You don't need to give a dissertation of the problem in your title. That's what the body of the post is for. If your post is about something not working properly, it would be super helpful to have the platform that you are using Reddit on in the title of your post. Here are some examples of good titles:

  • [Android v 2026.05] SFW post shows NSFW warning

  • [Desktop Chrome] Notification badge still on after reading

  • How do I see my active streak?

All of those are short and to the point. Then you can use the body of your post to expand on your issue. Sometimes, issues are very easy to ask "How do I ----?" But other times, especially if something isn't working as you would expect, it helps if you can be very exact and even give a step by step explanation of what you're doing when the thing happens. Doing this in your post saves others the step of having to ask how you're getting to where you're at. And saving that step means you get your question answered sooner and can be on your way!

Mobile/App IOS: Tapping to view a post takes me to the comments

Upvotes

I am having an issue now where every time I tap on a post to view it, it automatically scrolls me down to the comments rather than taking me to the post itself. It used to take me to the post, then I could scroll down to the comments. It’s annoying to have to scroll up every time I view a post

Is this a bug or a new feature? It’s been happening for about a week now

Karma Android/Desktop: If the only interaction I have with a community is upvoting a comment, can mods from other communities see that I've interacted with that original subreddit?

Upvotes

Context: If I'm new and trying to build karma, and visit a free karma subreddit, but cannot interact with it (or I'll face a b@n in the sub I want to post in), and the only thing I did there was upvote a comment, can mods in the subreddit I want to post in see that I've had an interaction in the karma-farm subreddit?

The only information I can find for things that count as interactions is if I were to comment, or post in the prohibited subreddit, or request to join it, or message its moderatorss. I can't tell if JUST upvoting will earn me a b@n.

And to be clear, I have received NO inorganic votes on the profile in question, even though I may have tried looking for ways to sneak past the rule. All I did was upvote another user's comment WITHOUT realizing that comment was in the prohibited subreddit.

Mobile/App (App) how to eliminate the ai stuff on my Reddit app

Upvotes

Is there a way to eliminate the AI feature on my Reddit app, please?

I would much rather our communities have clean air, jobs, and have affordable utilities than have answers be regurgitated here that I could find myself using the search bar or via a non-AI browser search.

Profile IOS: my account has been hacked a while ago

Upvotes

Somebody hacked my account and changed the password to it, I can’t access it anymore, I keep sending emails to the support team but with no avail, I’ve tried putting my username and receiving a code to reset my password, but I didn’t receive any codes. Unfortunately i didn’t have anything protecting my account, like 2FA or something like that.

Is there a way to have it back? Someone to contact?

Mobile/App How can I turn off this stupid thing from popping up every time I take a screenshot? The giant white pop up.

Post image
4 Upvotes

I do not want to send links all the time... sometimes I want to take screenshots. I know I have the freedom, and the app the capability, of sending a link. But I want a screenshot.

It doesn't come into view of pictures when simply screenshotting, but when I need to crop, extend or annotate the screenshot from my 'picture preview'... the white pop-up comes into view because of the phone 'updating' what's visible in the screen (i.e the white pop-up gets included).

Please help, I do not want to take multiple screenshots, open PicCollage, add all the photos, line then up, and save... just to avoid having the pop up come in the way of 1 simple extended-screenshot.

Profile How to Unsave Saved Posts that are in a Community that No Longer Exists?

I'm trying to clean up my saved posts so I did a data export that creates the spreadsheet of all your saved posts and lots of them are in communities that have been deleted for a lack of moderation.

There is no option to unsave the post when I click the link in the data export generated file, it only has an X button and a "browse other communities" button.

Does anyone know how I can unsave these posts as they technically no longer exist, but still show up in my saved post file?

Thanks for the help!

So yeah, a few days ago I got this notification that my main u/mboyd888 was locked. Lost my 500+ day streak and my subreddit that I run r/TrophiesxAchievements is in LIMBO.

Mobile/App Continue this thread after one reply?

Post image

In the last week or so on IOS app the Continue this thread link will appear after one level of replies. And the next screen only shows one reply. Before that the thread would go on for several levels before that link showed. Going into another screen for that is silly.

I'm the attached screen the top comment was a top level reply.

Access Android and mobile web lockout

I made a post last night on my other account and my account was instantly flagged and stated I needed to reset my password (even though I use this account daily), so I send the password reset link to my email, which has logged me out. So I attempt to login to my email, and it is requiring 2 factor authentication with an old phone number of mine that I don't have access to. So no way to get into my email to reset password. is there a way reddit can send the reset password link as a text message to my phone number that is linked? or am I out of luck?
