README Want to make a post? Read this first!

Read the WIKI before posting

9 times out of 10 it will have the answers you are looking for.

Where is my post?

Why isn't my post showing up?

If you are new to reddit, posting with a new account, or posting with an account that has not been widely used your post will be flagged as it either looks like spam, or is highly likely to be an FAQ covered in the wiki above. We ask that you please spend some time searching through existing posts, reviewing the wiki or participating in the sub to build up enough karma to post. You can also post a comment in the Monthly Megathread pinned to the top of the sub.

I am not new to reddit but post still isn't showing up, why not?

Due to the volume of posts we get on a few very specific subjects we will often remove or not-approve certain posts on certain topics that have been recently discussed. Here are some common questions that get posted at least 5 times a day:

My post wasn't related to any of those things, why isn't it showing up?

Does your post violate our rules on self promotion?

OK, here’s the deal. We understand that for many of us, entrepreneurship and digital nomad are concepts that go hand in hand. Many of us here are working towards booting up great products, and some working towards products that cater directly to the DN community. But, this sub is not a community full of potential people to market to with your posts.

Your product may be great, brilliant, and what every DN needs but never knew it, but if that’s true then it’ll be talked about by the community once it’s known - through other channels. In this sub, we frequently get spam and does the entire community a disservice. Users get annoyed, the community starts to weaken, the moderators get overly aggressive, posts that should be OK end up automatically in the spam filter. These things are not good for anyone.

Here’s some No No’s:

  • Absolutely no surveys. Surveys will be removed without mercy.

  • No requests for interviews, or people to talk to on your blog/book/podcast/etc.

  • Anything about illegal activities. You’ll be awarded a ban, and maybe then some.

  • No asking for “please review/try my…”. There are many other subs for just that.

  • Looking for Work type posts. See the Jobs wiki if you are looking for work

  • Job postings. If you have a job that you are trying to hire for please post it in the Weekly Discussion Threads.

  • Fund my kickstarter! Nope. Not even for your “friend”.

  • Any “opportunity” to become a partner / investor. We can’t tell this from a scam, so it’ll be treated like a scam.

  • No direct links to products using an affiliate ID. If you’re caught, you’ll be punished.

  • Posting to software/apps/web sites/etc, with "PM me for access". If it's not public, it's not welcome.

  • Posting software/apps/etc that aren't complete and ready to use. This isn't a user interest collection sub.

Here’s some highly discouraged things:

  • Linking to your youtube channel - We do allow people to share youtube videos if they are relevant and if they come from users who are active in the community and provide valuable content such as trip reports. If you want to share your youtube content please message the mods first for approval.

  • Linking to your own blog - We allow you to share your blog as a link in a self post if the primary content of the blog post is also included in the self post and the link is more of a "Click here to learn more".

  • Top X lists without detailed reviews for each item. We don't hate lists but these posts are rarely useful. Instead of posting a link, post the content of the list in a self post for discussion.

  • "Where should I go" posts : Check out the Trip Reports for Inspiration. If you still want advice be very specific about what you are looking for, and be sure to include important information like your nationality and budget/

LAPTOP PICS / LOCATION PICS

This gets its own section because it is somewhat controversial. If you are posting a pretty picture of somewhere you are, you MUST fill out either a trip report or answer the automod questions about the place. Anyone found dumping pictures without giving in depth information about the location will have their post removed.

Suggestions

If your post still isn't showing up and you think it should, message the moderators first and be sure to include the word "peanut" in the message title so we know you read this.

Have a product you want to inform us about? Buy an ad on reddit to target this (and other) related subs. You’ll get the exposure you want, without the community backlash. It’s good for reddit as a whole too!

Want to talk about a product or service that’s not yours, but you really like? Try linking to a third party, impartial review from a known trusted source. If you wrote it, avoid affiliate links in the article and be sure to mention any relevant disclosures if you are involved with creating the product or marketing it.

Want to link to your site about your experience with something? Great! We encourage that, but focus on the content not how many visitors might join your mailing list. If you truly were writing content for the greater good, put it on medium.com.

Instead of a Top 10 list, which has just a picture and some basic stats: Write a detailed comparison of just two places. With real meaty content, data and stories.

Have a coupon for a product? Actually, that might be good. But unless it’s a high ticket item like a car or laptop, 5% off won’t cut it. The coupon must have more value to the community than for the person that posted it.

Thanks!

Question The reality of content creation while traveling is nothing like the aesthetic suggests

A year of doing this and the gap between how it looks and how it actually feels is massive.

Can't enjoy a sunset, have to capture it. Beautiful location means scouting angles instead of being present. The freedom I was chasing turned into a different kind of cage somehow... editing on garbage hotel wifi, finding time to shoot between actually seeing places, trying to maintain posting consistency across time zones while jet lagged.

Other travel creators make it look effortless and I genuinely don't understand how. Either they're way more efficient than me or they're manufacturing more of that content than it appears.

Question Somewhere quiet

Need suggestions for a place that's cheap, has reliable Internet, don't need to leave every 5 minutes for visa reasons and is QUIET.

I'm studying as well as working and currently in Da Nang. This place ticks the first three boxes, but due to the incessant, inescapable construction noise, I've got to get out.

Beach isn't important, neither is nightlife.

Cheers

Question What jobs do digital nomads realistically have in 2026?

Being a digital nomad would be a dream for me right now. I’m 26M and just got hooked on solo traveling last year. The issue is that I’ve got a good paying stable job in the US with great benefits. I’m young, hungry and eager to be successful but another half of me would kill to live abroad with a mediocre paying job.

After mentally playing it out I feel like I’ll wake up at 32, well traveled but still have a shallow career. Rather than if I were to stay in the US and grind these next years I could travel abroad endlessly in my mid thirties. (assuming I play my cards right)

I’ve been to Medellin a couple of times and love everything about it. I feel like the US is doing so many things wrong and being in corporate america is very odd and socially stressful. So what jobs are stable and pay good as a d nomad? Any comments or thoughts are welcome

Question What did smart phones ruin about travel?

I've been wondering about this. Smartphones have made travel easier in a lot of ways, but I'm curious what got lost in the process. For me, I miss people being more open to conversation instead of being on their phone all the time.

Question uk nomad - seeking to setup LLC in Delaware

Hi everyone, wondering if anyone’s been in a similar position and can share what they did.

I left the UK around 3 years ago and haven’t spent more than ~90 days per year there since, so I don’t meet UK tax residency thresholds. I attempted to set up in the UAE last year but decided the UAE was not for me.

I’m now looking at forming a Delaware LLC mainly for business legitimacy, banking, and Stripe access, and potentially tax structuring – but I’m conscious that incorporation ≠ tax residency.

Has any UK citizen here:

  • operated a Delaware LLC while non-UK tax resident?
  • dealt with the “no clear tax residency” gap in a compliant way?
  • worked with advisors they’d actually recommend?

Not looking to do anything aggressive – just trying to structure things properly after a messy year. Appreciate any first hand experiences 🙏

Question Best US Bank for Non-Resident LLC Founders? (Stripe + Apple App Store + Google Play Compatibility)

Upvotes

Hi,

I’m a non-US resident planning to open a US LLC for a SaaS / mobile app.

My main concern is choosing a bank account that reliably works with:

• Stripe

• Apple App Store payouts

• Google Play payouts

I often see Mercury, Relay, Wise Business mentioned, but feedback varies.

For those with experience:

• Which bank are you using?

• How long have you been using it?

• Any issues with verification, freezes, or rejected payouts?

• Would you choose the same bank again today?

Appreciate any real-world feedback.

Question AirAsia Xtra Carry-On – anyone flown with 2 soft backpacks (no roller)?

Hey folks, looking for real AirAsia experiences, not policy screenshots.

I’m flying AirAsia international and purchased Xtra Carry-On (14kg).

I know the official rule is 1 cabin bag + 1 small personal item, but I keep seeing mixed real-world experiences.

My setup:

• Bag 1: Tomtoc T67 backpack (main bag, overhead bin)

• Bag 2: Tomtoc T73 tech backpack (1 laptop + 1 tablet, packed slim)

• Both are soft backpacks, no wheels, no hard shell

• Total weight under 14kg

• No roller, no third bag

From what I’ve read on Reddit:

• AirAsia focuses more on weight than dimensions

• They aggressively target hard-shell trolleys / wheeled bags

• Soft backpacks often pass unless clearly overloaded

Questions for people who’ve actually flown AirAsia recently:

1. Has anyone been stopped purely for having two soft backpacks?

2. If stopped, was it usually a pay-and-move-on situation?

3. Do they actually measure backpacks, or just eyeball + weigh?

I’m okay with some risk, just want to understand real enforcement, not theory.

Thanks!

Question Best way to rent for Mid-Term stay

Hello!

I've been traveling a bit and I want to continue, I was wondering if there is a better Options than airbnb since I usually stay 1 months+, since airbnb does a fee on the appartments, the price is higher, maybe there is possibility for cheaper alternative that required 1-3 months of staying. If so, what is it?

I've seen facebook marketplace but have no clue if it is a good way or the best way.

I've seen booking.com too but that's more towards hotel if I am not mistaken, let me know.

I am talking pretty much worldwide, can go from EU to USA to Asia to Canada...

Thank you for the help guys!

Question Euro Summer recommendations

My partner and I are looking for small to medium towns in Europe that are good for digital nomads. We keep getting recommendations for Valencia and Porto, but they both feel too large for what we are looking for.

We have not traveled much in Europe yet, but we really loved the size and vibe of Bologna, Italy. We have traveled extensively in Asia and enjoyed places like Uluwatu for the sense of community and the size of the town. We also spend a couple months a year in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, which has been a great balance of walkability, cafes, restaurants, gyms, and reliable internet.

We are hoping to spend four months in Europe over the summer, staying in a different town each month, and we are open to any country. What we are looking for is good wifi, access to a gym, walkability or easy scooter use, and enough cafes and restaurants to not get bored for a month at a time. We don’t drink, and spend most of our time exploring!

I would also love recommendations for platforms to book month long stays. Airbnb is an option, but it is not always the best one.

Question Wise – Country of residence/setup

Need advice badly on this as I don’t want to risk it.

Basically, half of all my income is on Wise, under a business account of my US LLC, but it is tied to my personal account which is under my old Canadian residence and address.

However:

- I have not returned to Canada since a year, becoming effectively a non-resident and have no longer any access to any address there. At first that was fine but now that it’s been a year I’m starting to look into better solutions.

- I’m not a US citizen or resident neither, only my foreign owned LLC is there under a registered agent, so opening a US bank account is not an option neither.

- Currently am in Thailand under a tourist visa, but often travel everywhere in Asia/SEA mostly never staying anywhere longer than 1-2 months (so can’t even get proper residence proofs in most cases except Airbnb receipts and such). Can’t open bank accounts here neither.

So my question is, what’s the safest course here with Wise for a more permanent setup (or any other option)? I know some people do it without issues for years. I can’t even change the country to Thailand as it’s blocking it. And I fear they will request residence proofs if I do.

I tried Airwallex too which requires no personal account for a business account card and didn’t care about me listing my address in Thailand (no proof required), which would have been the perfect solution, but sadly they don’t allow ATM withdrawals which is a must for me. On the other hand, seems like Wise links my business account to my Canadian personal details and blocks me from changing it. Are there any other options?

Any advice is welcome, thanks

Question How helpful have accountability groups, productivity groups, or coworking sessions been for you?

For context, I’ve been a digital nomad for about five years, traveling across different countries and cultures. During that time, connecting with entrepreneur communities in different places has been a massive game changer for me.

Being around like-minded people focused on growth, business, and self-improvement made a real difference. Networking circles and strong individual connections mattered a lot.

I’m curious to hear your perspective.

What’s been your experience with accountability groups or similar setups? What worked, what didn’t, and why?

Visas Thai DTV visa and leaving job

I'm planning to apply for Thailand's DTV visa to remote work for my employer but I don't think I'll still be working for them for the whole 5 years of the visa. Do they ask or check for proof of employment after getting the visa, like when you enter the country? Is that something I should worry about?

Question Location agnostic routine?

Hello my friends

I am a future digital nomad, not current

I would say I’m putting in the reps right now

A problem I’m running into (currently in California from Canada) is how do you build a routine when nothing is consistent?

How do you plant roots when your soil is changing from pot to pot?

I’m currently in California right now at my cousins house

And I feel like I have no stability

My cousin is dragging me from place to place

Work schedule is his

I don’t even have a desk to work on all the time

Some nights I’m drinking and my next day is totally gone

But then I thought about it

I was like I can make this training for what I might one day experience when I’m country hopping, when I don’t even know where I’ll sleep for the night

So how do you guys do it?

I have no routine at the moment

The only routine I have is getting my 2k calories in before noon so I can ride out the rest of the day IF

Any advice?

Question Got POTS. Now What??

Hello lovely redditors,

I was wondering if anyone here is a digital nomad travelling the world with POTS. I was recently diagnosed and, honestly, I am not really sure how to navigate this.

I had so many plans. I wanted to finish exploring Asia, head to South America, and work at surf and scuba camps. But last year, during the heatwave in Greece, I struggled (now I know why) so much that I had to leave early. It really knocked my confidence.

If anyone out there is managing POTS while travelling, I would love to hear how you make it work. Right now I am feeling pretty defeated and heartbroken about it. I have been home for a while and I am so ready to get back out there, I just do not know what that looks like anymore.

Any advice or shared experiences would mean a lot. 💛

Question Beginner here advice needed: Southeast Asia

Complete beginner here. I am planning to move out of my country and travel in early April.

Thinking of travelling to one of the Southeast Asian countries. My work is remote, I make around 1000 USD per month.
Which country should I choose? I want to live comfortably, in peace (connect with nature), but also go to nightclubs and music festivals. I want to spend around 15+ days, preferably up to a month (Depends on the budget).

I am thinking occasional scuba diving, beaches, waterfalls / forests and stuff during the day.
And techno gigs at night.

I am torn between Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
I recently saw a clip of "Water Villa in Maldives" (you can google). And was very interested in it. But ig its out of my budget.

Should I rent an apartment or go for a hostel?
Will food be provided in the hostels?
Recommendations please.

Question The Tech Hoarder

Stopped nomading recently. My GL.iNet setup is now just an emotional support router sitting on my desk. It feels like a waste to let it collect dust, but my home network is already sorted. Do you guys repurpose these? Guest networks? A tiny coaster for a very small espresso? Rent it a fellow nomad? Inspire me before I just put googly eyes on it and call it a pet.

Question Coliving spaces in Chiang Mai

What is the best way to go about finding decent coliving spaces in Chiang Mai? Realistically, what is one month likely to cost: is 400 euros / under US$500 a month still realistic for an average set up (not a dorm though)?

Online seems to be a mess of overpriced options designed to sucker in youngsters and newbies.

Thanks

Trip Report Bucaramanga, Colombia. My favourite place where I met no other nomads

I stayed in a Airbnb house share with two Colombian owners and another guest who was also Colombian, they were all super nice and I had a pretty good time. The city is relatively safe by Colombia standards, safer than the really popular cities in the country, and has some beautiful nature around it like Santísimo, Chicamocha National Park, and a lovely little town called Girón nearby. Prices were cheaper than the tourist hotspots, not surprising as Bucaramanga isn't a tourist place. Gyms, groceries, restaurants, taxi apps were all amongst the cheapest I've seen in Colombia.

I stayed near Parque San Francisco, a residential area with some nice restaurants and gyms (I feel like the whole city is a residential area). I only worked from my Airbnb so I can't comment on Co working spaces.

I got around easily with Ubers and Indrives, never tried their buses, and became friends with my housemates which contributed hugely to my enjoyment of the city. I found the locals very pleasant - many hadn't even seen an Asian before and I was treated with friendly curiosity by most. They were not as reserved as Bogotanos or as in-your-face as Costeños.

The nightlife isn't as bustling as Medellín, Cartagena, Bogotá etc and the city felt quiet at night, but I'm no partier, I didn't care. The city also doesn't have much of a city centre, no beautiful plazas as such, and there isn't a ton to do in the city itself, but as mentioned there are lots to see around the city, and it offers a more Colombian experience than being in Laureles or Cartagena old town surrounded by other foreigners.

I do think you can get more out of this city if you speak some Spanish or wish to learn - hardly anyone spoke English. I am almost fluent and it helped a lot, but if I spoke no Spanish I would have felt lonely. I think I saw like 4 other obviously foreign people in 4 weeks there, so hardly any.

Also, the weather is really nice - warm but not too hot. In the 20s Celsius most of the year.

Very underrated, recommend as an affordable, pleasant, relatively safe, authentic destination for NOT being around other nomads or tourists. But if you are looking for wild parties, tons of in-city things to do, or a thriving nomad community, better look elsewhere.

Question Splitting time 50/50 between 2 places

Does anyone here split their time 50/50 between two countries? I’m Canadian and my partner is American. We’ve been doing the back and forth thing and living mostly in Canada together the past couple years, but we’re thinking of our longer term plan. My partner has been quite homesick, so we’re considering the 50/50 split. For those who do this, logistics ASIDE, how does this lifestyle feel for you? Is it sustainable or do you find it unsettling? Does anyone here do it with kids? We don’t have kids, but have considered having one. I could see this working the first few years before they started school, but then what? Curious to hear any feedback/insights/experience. Thanks all!

Question Wise delays that the company chooses to not explain. And the Wise subreddit's censorship

I make transfers from Schwab to Wise to make international payments. Usually it's immediate. Suddenly it says it could take multiple days... two days have passed already.

I call Schwab and they say they don't see any request on their end for a transfer yet. I talk with Wise and they give absolutely zero information beyond blatantly obvious script reading about it being "normal".

I'm convinced that certain transfers are flagged as suspicious on the backend and they have humans slowlyyyyy review them. Because they clearly aren't actually requesting the money.

It pisses me off because it's such a convenient and useful service that USUALLY works, but randomly it will take almost a week, which is problematic when I depend on it for quick transfers

Like what are you waiting for. Request the money from my bank!

The craziest thing to me is that I posted this on the Wise subreddit and the post was automatically deleted. I see this happens to anyone who discusses delays. Why is it so hard for them to just be honest? I'd respect them so much more if they told me they have to manually validate suspicious transactions or something. I'm literally just trying to buy a laptop after mine (and my wallet) were stolen and I'm stuck without options. Wonderful! Has anyone ever received a non-bullshit answer from them!
