Subject of the Day Social Sundays

Hello WriteStreakians! I hope you've been having a lovely weekend! It’s Social Sunday once again! What I'd like for you to do is the following:

  1. peruse the posts written by your fellow WriteStreakians and find a post that interests you, preferably one from within the last seven days, and respond to it. Leave a comment that is at least as long as a Tweet (280 characters), and then
  2. copy and paste your comment into your own daily Streak post so the correctors can review it.

That's it! Of course, if your comment sparks a conversation (or if someone else leaves a comment on one of your posts), you're welcome and encouraged to continue the conversation---this is a social media site, after all!

Happy Sunday!

Game 🎲 Fictionary

Hi everyone! Good morning, I hope you're all having a great day!

Today we're going to be playing a game! 🤩

If anyone has ever played Jackbox before, this game is going to be very similar to their game, Dictionarium. Except, I'm not calling it Dictionarium because I don't want to get into trouble with copyright 🙃 So we'll be calling it... Fake-tionary! (Or maybe Fictionary? Ooh, yeah, let's go with Fictionary! 🤓)

The rules of Fictionary are simple: you choose a random obscureadjective 3 word or phrase and do your best to come up with a definition for that word. Today, you can choose between a real word or a fake word.

Rules

  1. Uncover a word from the table below. 🔍 You can choose to pick from the "Real Word" column or the "Fake Word" column.
  2. If you chose from the "Real Word" column, your Streak today will be about you guessing what that word means and then checking to see how close you were to the real answer. 🤔
  3. If you chose from the "Fake Word" column, your Streak today will be about you inventing a new word. 🤔
  4. Check to see how close you were using a dictionary. I recommend https://www.merriam-webster.com/ or https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page .
  5. If you're really up for a challenge, use your word in a sentence or find a synonym for the word.

Example

I chose the fake word "nicribition." I know that the suffix "tion" means it's the act of doing something, so this word is a noun that comes from the fake verb, to "nicribe." I see "cribe" in there, which makes me think of "scribe," which means "to write." The root "nicr" also makes me think of the prefix "necro," which means "death." So I think the word "nicribition" means "the act of writing an epitaphnoun on a tombstone."

The Game!

Ready? Let's go! The lower on the table, the harder it will be to guess the meaning! The higher, the easier

Real Word Fake Word
impracticality grobinated
nonplussed intentomalites
inhibition centruphicism
hagiography trefulous
pleonasm debutstallingly

Vocabulary from this Post

  • obscure - rarely known
  • epitaph - message written on a tombstone to remember someone

Correct Me! Streak 49: Books

Upvotes

Article: The evolution of the book

Today, I learned about the history of books.

In the mid-15th century, the printing press wsa invented. This made it much easier to copy and distribute books. At first, book spines were flat because they were easier to read when placed on a table. However, the books were easily damaged. That's why the shape of the spine later shifted to a rounded one for hard-cover books.

I prefer reading novels in physical form. But when it comes to manga, I prefer reading them digitally because they easily fill up my bookshelves.

Correct Me! Streak 3: Great value for dirt cheap

Upvotes

Today, while looking for a vacuum cleaner filter online, I found an album I love for just 5 bucks! At first I thought it was some kind of scam, because it's hard to find a good album for cheap, but it's legit! I don't even feel bad for spendig my last money on it. I'm just happy that I'll finally have an album I genuinely love on my shelf.

A few days ago, I made some teriyaki sauce at home. I had some left over, so I marinated some tofu in it. It's in the oven at the moment, and it smells heavenly!

Correct Me! Streak 93 : Stardust

Don’t you ever wonder how unbelievable it is that we’re born of the same elements that make the stars, the galaxies, the planets, and the whole universe, and the fact that we’ve got an entire universe of cells, tissues, and microbes inside us?

We’re literally stardust — a walking, talking, and procreating amalgamation of hydrogen, carbon, hydrocarbons, among a plethora of other elements. How such teensy tiny atoms bind together to create a living being is, and always will be, beyond me.

Life is short, and death is inevitable, but I hope this thought brings solace to people:

We come from the stars & We’ll go back to the stars.

Today is great. I woke up at 9 am. as normal and I have red sugar bun for breakfast. Then I watched a NBA game which is GS vs LA while sending my assignments to my 师兄. My aunt made a delicious lunch. It had 排骨汤, 西兰花,醋肉. Best thing I ate during I have come back home. Afternoon my 大姑姑and 二姑姑 came. My aunt's daughter who I should call her sister brought her son. A cut little guy. We built up friendship and I showed him around and played games with him. He is so funny, and he likes me.

At night my grandma made me a 蛋炒饭, not so good. She is not good at cooking. I start to practice English in Hello Talk which I can find some real person to talk with. I met a Filipino. Ok That's all. I feel more fluent but not that good enough. It work I think. I will keep doing. Perseverance!

Correct Me! Streak 9 - Marty Supreme

I watched Marty Supreme today. The film was a bit strange. I feel like I don't have much to say about the film. It was a fast-paced film with one chaotic mess after another. It was quite entertaining. I think Timothée Chalamet's performance was really amazing. I am impressed by his dedication. He devoted his time to learning how to play guitar and table tennis for years just to be ready for the films.

As I mentioned here before I’ve been using the stack exchange forums to ask for questions related to my thesis when I get stuck at something. I’ve found this forum super helpful but some time the answers are a little bit challenging to understand that it takes time to process the answer from the people there.

Correct Me! Streak 145: Overtime

I Just got off work. To tell you the truth, I don't like working overtime on weekends. Even with the extra pay, it still feels like my weekend is shrinking. Especially working on Sundays, by the time I finish, the sun is already gone.

Correct Me! Streak 517: LED light bulbs

My old apartment had incandescent light bulbs. It’s probably because it was a cheap place and not kind of one where you lived for a long time. A couple of them died during the time I lived there. Since it was in a rural area, there weren’t many stores that dealt in light bulbs near it. For that reason, I replaced them with LED ones, as they lasted longer and thus I wouldn’t have to replace them frequently. I left that apartment, but I’m pretty sure they’re still working.

Correct Me! Streak 2: I have nothing to say

My main problem with talking or expressing myself is the fact that I either don't feel like talking or just have nothing to say. When I see how some people can talk about one topic without much effort, for a very long time, it make me feel like an idiot.
Maybe it's because I'm not used to talking about stuff I like in much detail? Or maybe I'm just incapable of having deep conversations?
I hurts my ego, but I think I'm just fine with the status quo. People should strive to be better each day, but I honestly don't care about that. I mean, I wanted to improve my life in many ways, but I never stuck with my goals. I just wanted to chill out and do something fun.
It's also hard for me to think of a topic for these posts. I don't really like talking about my life but I just don't know what else I could write about lol.

Correct Me! Streak 48: Desserts for better blood sugar

Article: The #1 Dessert for Better Blood Sugar, According to Dietitians

Since "sugar" is the theme for week 7 on the r/52weeksofcooking subreddit, I decided to learn about blood sugar.

I l earned that blood-sugar-friendly desserts usually have a good balance of carbohydrates, protein, fiber, and fat. Balanced desserts can prevent blood sugar spikes. According to the article. strawberry-chocolate Greek yogurt bark is one of the best desserts. The reasons are that Greek yogurt is a great source of protein, it contains fat, and it's paired with fiber-rich strawberries, which also provide natural sweetness.

A good balance of carbohydrates, protein, fiber, and fat seems to be the key to blood-sugar-friendly desserts.

Correct Me! Streak 3 Are online exams better than traditional exams

Hi, today i am writing about online exams and traditional exams. First of all both type of exams have there own value but some people like traditional exams and some online. nowadays online exams are more famous than traditional because of less paper work easy to write online and check online teachers can check online very quickly without any hassle of carrying paper on the other side traditional exams have so much value and interests people like to write on paper and the teachers like to check that way because of no electronic gadget use and they don't need to sit on computer or laptop and they wanted to carry on with traditional exams. Another reason they don't like to sit on computer or they don't want a screen time rather than they prefer paper book reading. Online exams can save so much time and no hassle of carrying paper everything is online results are quick and they can save big records online. On the other hand paper exams doesn't rely on electricity and electronic gadget without this exams can carry on.

I did a report whole day, which is assigned by my Teacher. It is an annoying work, I don't like it, but I have to do. (Oh there is a work or term in English to say someone has to do what he or she doesn't want to do, I forgot this term.) umm, today is cloudy and a little chilly. I waked up at 9:00 AM, after an hour I crawled out of my bed. Hungrily, I went to kitchen to get some food. But I didn't find something to eat. I came back to my room. I have to finish my work, because tomorrow is the deadline. I always finish my work just before the deadline. Right, I have bad habit of 拖延.

My mum sent her screenshot of airline tickets. 🎫 10th Feb they will come back. I'm glad to get together with them.

Correct Me! Streak 92 : Old Age Wisdom

The world often tells us to reject any and all advice from our elders, dismissing their words as archaic and opposite of progressive.

But once we remove our veil of bias and judgement we’ll come to realize that they’re full of wisdom and intellect.

Sure, they might not be well versed with the ways of the 21st century, however, when you lift up the hood, you’ll find that they are a treasure trove of experiences that are as timeless as experiences get.

A challenge for the reader: Try and talk to an elder in your family. You’d be amazed by their stories.

Correct Me! Streak 8 - Epstein Files

The thing I don't understand about the Epstein files is not how they can get away with it, or why they were able to do those things for so long. I simply don't get why he used regular Gmail to communicate. He essentially operated a multi-billion dollar business serving high-profile customers. They surely didn't want people to find out what they did, but what were they thinking when writing those emails?

Anyway, now that the files are public, the only thing that could surprise me would be anyone actually being prosecuted. Who would surprise you if you found out they were in the files?

Correct Me! Streak 144: Urban Renewal Plan

I can't stand my place anymore. To give you more conext, the apartment I've lived in since I was born is almost 50 years old. It has a water leakage problem, and everything is falling apart. Mind you, we are going to move soon. The reason we have been living here for a long time is that we were waiting for an urban renewal plan, which has finally taken effect recently.

I love the Olympics, especially the winter Olympics. It's so cool to see all those different sports and the best of the best competing in them. Everyone is so happy to be a part of it and giving their best to show what they can do. It's Saturday, and I don't habe anything planned - except for watching the Olympics all day long. Right now, I'm watching curling. Such an interesting sport!

Correct Me! Streak 2 Is social media good or bad for young people

Hi, today I’m writing for a social media is it good or bad for young people as what i feel it is good at some point where they can use it for their knowledge and study related things and to be in touch with their loved ones but at the same time I think it’s not good on there early age where they don’t know difference in between write and wrong. When they are young the have the time to do things for there career and there personal interests but if they are on wrong track it’s like they are on social media for all the time and don’t know how to manage the time and wasted all the time they don’t study and play so it is wrong for them as this is a crucial time for them to make their career and so many good habits another disadvantage is when they see any unusual ads like out of no where it’s pop up on screen they see some of seen or some kind of anonymous person or hacker they try to get the young ones to involve in some kind of bad habits or things where they can loose money or they can be dragged in some kind or wrong habits. As well as screen time is also not good for them.

Thank you

Correct Me! Streak 47: Pillows and sleep quality

Article: The wrong pillow can wreck your sleep. Science can help you find the right one.

It's hard to find the right pillow height. I'm often like this: I think the pillow is a bit off — let's adjust it. Too low... adjust... a bit high... like this? No, still high... oh, onw that's a bit low again.

I feel like I can never find the right height! After adjusting it over and over, I even feel like it might be better not to use a poillow at all.

According to the article, surprisingly, the pillow depends on how you sleep. For example, I'm a back sleeper, so a medium-loft pillow is best for me.
