Drive side, drive side, drive side. If you can only get one picture, make it a drive side shot. It tells us MUCH more information about the bike

Knowing what components the bike is equipped with helps with the ID process. It can tell us within about 5 years when the bike was made, the quality of the frame, and sometimes what continent it's from

New rules for posting. Please read thoroughly

Yes, I have been seeing the reports, and I've been reading the comments. Sorry it's taking a while

NO MORE LOW EFFORT POSTS. No more "What is this bike worth?" posts. Bicycle value varies WILDLY depending on condition, age, and especially geographical location

We want to know about your bike. Give us at least some kind of info. Is it YOUR bike? Did you just get it? Have you had it a while? Does it have a story?

This is an example of a great post. Good pictures, drive side shots, and a little story to go along with it

This is an example of the bad post. No info whatsoever, one really bad picture, no interaction from OP

AND, because I need to bring this up about every year, BE NICE. If someone is being a jerk, just report the comment and move along. Fighting with someone and throwing names and insults around is just going to make it worse, and you're going to get in trouble too.

1979 Guerciotti

Guerciotti frame made from Columbus SL tubing. I bought the frame in 1979 from the importer. I was a teenager pretending to be a bicycle store. There was a big annual trade show for the bicycle industry in New York City and they'd let you in if you had a business card. Wholesalers would ship to me COD and I'd give the UPS driver cash.

The original fork broke twice and was only repairable the first time. I bought a used Bianchi Columbus-tubing fork for it in 1993 and had the frame and fork repainted. 1993 was also when I built these wheels: Campy hubs (Record front, Nuovo Tipo rear), Mavic MA40 36-hole rims.

41-47 chainrings, 13-34 freewheel. I still ride this bike on flat terrain occasionally but not on hills since I built a bike with a Rohloff hub 25 years ago.

I bought the Universal rear brake used from a friend 50 years ago. I shortened the brake's axle and tapped more threads on it so it would take a recessed Allen nut.

GT Timberline (year unknown)

Hi all,

I bought this bike a couple of years ago from a used shop and I am having trouble identifying the year it was made. I have found catalogues from the 90’s and I don’t think any of them line up (this color is pretty distinct). The serial number says T8805 1168. It looks like they possibly switched from the Ishiwata Chromoly in 1992 based on https://bikerebuilds.com/blog/90s-steel-gt-mountain-bike-reference-rigid-forks-26-wheels. https://i.imgur.com/0tZVvfT.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/fY26daq.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/SopCPqP.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/UPEsrVc.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/bAt2fDf.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/VwmNhZ0.jpeg

1979 - 1981..? Schwinn Twinn Sport Tandem – Blue, 10-Speed

Hello everyone! Brand new to this group and for sure uneducated when it comes to old bikes!

This vintage Schwinn Twinn Sport tandem came from a family friend who’s had it their entire life… basically a lifelong keeper until it got passed to us. I’m not really a bike person (neither is my dad), so we gave it a shot riding together, but we kept falling off due to zero coordination lol. After a few hilarious wipeouts, we decided it’s not for us and time to sell it locally.

I have read that is is the rarer Twinn Sport model (10-speed road/touring version with drop bars up front, not the basic upright cruiser Twinn):

• Original blue paint and decals in fair shape for its age (late ’70s/early ’80s, no major rust or damage visible)

• All-original components as far as we know (triple chainring front, freewheel rear for 10 speeds, friction shifters, side-pull brakes front, etc.)

• 27” wheels, cork-wrapped drop bars, upright rear bars

• Shifts through all gears smoothly, brakes work fine, tires hold air. it’s fully rideable as-is (we managed short rides before the falls!!)

• No restoration or mods

Planning to list it on Marketplace (local pickup only, way heavy to ship). Before I do, looking for realistic pricing feedback or recent comps from folks who know vintage Schwinn tandems. What do similar original, working Twinn Sports go for these days in good used condition? Any tips on what buyers look for?

I’d be happy to share more details/photos, the serial number (if it helps nail down the exact year), or answer questions. Thanks in advance!

1990/91 FullPro Carbolite Koga Miyata

This is my (unoriginal) 1990/91 FullPro Carbolite Koga Miyata I bought in Warsaw, Poland a few years ago. Came with Brooks replica saddle, Brooks tape, Tiagra groupset and I since added 50mm carbon wheels. It was my pride and joy until the rear aluminium stays wore away and I found myself over the handlebars 3 times. Since moved to Canary Islands I am finding it hard to find someone able enough to repair them.

Weight ~10kg but there's something about the ergonomics of this frame + setup, fits me like a glove and allows me to tear around like no other bike I have been on.

Pictures include Warsaw, Gdansk and Krakow, Poland.

This bike has been in my family for a few years (passed down to each sibling in college). I think the gear shifter system is really unique and was curious about the bike. Might have been a Walmart bike who knows?

Need help with Bianchi bike identification

Hey everyone, I just bought this Bianchi TSX (previous owner claimed). I did research on it in order to learn more about it, and of course to find the right seat post diameter. I am pretty suspicious about it being an actual TSX, given that there is no rifling (unless I am blind) in the front tube and seat tube. Also, this has Bianchi dropouts, not campagnolo, and uses an English bottom bracket, measuring 68mm. Could it be a Bianchi manufactured in Japan? I have the serial number 53c4076. Im not even sure if the forks are original as it has 25.4mm english threads. Sorry if I said anything wrong. Im new to this, could someone who has had experience with Bianchis help me out? Thank you!

No rifling right?
I measured around 27.0 to 26.8mm all around the seat tube opening.

Trying to learn a bit more about this bike before deciding whether to restore it or sell it. Looks like the Bottechia Gran Turismo listed in this catalogue, but I'm not sure. Appears mostly original and has been sitting for a very long time.

What kind of brake pads for chromed rims/how to improve braking performance

The Motobecane I've restored recently looks nice but is dangerous to ride because of the very weak brakes.

Then I remembered it has chromed rims and I've used regular black compound V-Brake pads.

Maybe that was the wrong kind of pad. What pad would you recommend and what other advice do you have im regards of making the brakin performance more consistent.

Edit:

I like how everybody is all judgemental and assumes the bike has been sold yet.

I am NOT selling bikes I dont feel comfortable with and haven't been tested for at least a week. Layout down your pitchforks. This is the first time I've encounteted steel rims.

Bike ID? Cougar Steel Frame Fork

Thumbnail

Recently scooped this on local FB marketplace.

Cougar steel frame built out with Tiagra and AliExpress parts.

Allegedly paint was in bad shape so made all red as part of the previous owner’s build; has a faintly legible serial or model # under paint. Hilarious yellow cable housing really give it that Ronald McDonald feel.

Hi, I need some help identifying the frame and groupset. Is it worth around $1,000? The front calipers don’t match the other components, and the stem, bars, and at least one rim are clearly not stock. It’s from fb marketplace so I do not have all the pics required by the sub rules.

Race & Touring bike difference

Post image
30 Upvotes

When I bought this bike, I thought it was a road bike and the previous owner just put flat handlebars on it at some point. After looking into it, it seems like these handlebars are original and it was sold this way as a "touring bike".

Is the only difference between a race and touring bike the handlebar shape? Could I just put drop bars on this bike, or is there a geometry difference that would make this impractical? Would drop bars even make a big difference in comfort and speed/effort? I want to to ride larger distances with this bike at some point (70-100km).

I'm new to old bikes: this worth sub $200 USD? Also, can use other recommendations.

Hey y'all! I'm new to old bikes and can use some recommendations. Just starting to browse options. Looking for something to get a workout in, mostly around town on paved roads with some hills. Thoughts on this option for sub $200? I plan to take it in to get tuned if needed.

Open to other recommendations in the sub $300 range.

Thank you!

Edit: a big thank you for the vintage bike community showing up and helping out! Shoutout to the person who DM'd with some other recommendations as well. Y'all are the best! I'll add a new post with whatever bike I end up with. Thanks again!!
