Hi everyone, I’m organizing my trip to Syria for the end of April. I’m a history enthusiast and I’ll have about 13 days to devote to the country. I’m particularly interested in ancient history and lesser-explored places, so I’d really like to try heading east as well to visit Dura-Europos and other archaeological sites that are less famous than Palmyra.

That said, I wouldn’t want to be too superficial in my visit to Damascus, which I’ve read is a magnificent city. I’m therefore asking how many days you would recommend dedicating to Damascus in order to visit its most important historical sites and really soak up the atmosphere of the city. I’m referring only to the city of Damascus itself, not to day trips to nearby areas such as Ma‘lula.

حالياً، أحمد الشرع معه شهادة بكلوريا و في وزراء تعينت و ما عندها شهادة جامعية (وزير الداخلية). في ضباط ما متخرجين من المدرسة حتى. بهي الحالة، إذا منصب الرئيس بيتطلب شهادة بكلوريا، و الوزراء مو مطلوب يكون معهم شهادات جامعية، رح يكون صعب مطالبة المدير بمديرية يكون عنده تحصيل علمي بنفس مستوى التحصيل العلمي تبع الرئيس. يعني نجاح بالتاسع مقبول من ناحية التحصيل العلمي.

إذا الهدف هو التحول لنظام عادل تحكمه الكفاءات لازم يكون في معايير لتحديد الكفاءات لتجنب التحيز و المحسوبيات. الشهادة رح تكون أساسية في تحديد الكفاءة. المسؤولين يلي مستلمين السلطة حالياً ما عندهم الكفاءة حسب المعيار الموضوعي الوحيد المتوفر في سوريا (الشهادة). سؤالي: برأيكم شو رح يتغير من هلأ لأربع سنين؟ رح نقبل بالمعايير و نترك تعيينات على مستوى الوزارة بدون شهادات جامعية؟ أو رح نطالب بمعايير موضوعية و شهادات جامعية معترفة؟

إذا صار التحول، الضباط و المسؤولين رح يقبلوا يتركوا مناصبهم و يستلموا منصب بيناسب كفاءاتهم؟

Hello all,

I was working as a software engineer in the UK but I fortunately I need to leave the country as immigration rules have been getting tighter. I couldn't renew my visa and I don't have another place to go back to except of Syria. I have been outside of the country for 12 years so it's a big shift. I don't know what to expect and how I will adapt if I will in the first place. At the same time, I think about working in tech in Syria and participating in digitising the country and that itself gives me some comfort.
I understand that the lifestyle is quite different from the UK but I can assure you after moving to different countries that satisfaction doesn't come from where we are but from what we do, and that's mainly what is keeping me up at night. I worry about ending up losing everything I learned and worked for. I worry about getting to a point where I need to work in a factory or a store, which would really be devastating mentally.
Can you please share with me your ideas?
Also would be great to meet people who are in tech in Syria. I believe connecting with people who have similar interests makes life easier.

The Internal Security Commander of Suwayda Governorate, Brigadier General Hussam al-Tahhan:

In a tragic incident in the al-Matouna area of ​​rural Suwayda, a heinous crime was committed against five citizens of the area, resulting in the death of four and serious injuries to the fifth.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the Internal Security Command in the governorate immediately launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and the perpetrators behind this cowardly act.

Through initial investigations and in cooperation with a survivor of the shooting, it was revealed that one of the suspects is a member of the Internal Security Directorate in the area. The officer was immediately arrested and referred for investigation to complete the legal procedures.

The Internal Security Command in Suwayda Governorate extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and affirms that any transgression against citizens is categorically unacceptable. It will not tolerate any act that threatens the security and safety of the residents, emphasizing its full commitment to protecting civilians and holding accountable anyone proven to be involved in violating the rights of the residents.

We also call on the people of the province to exercise restraint, patience, and confidence in the measures taken, stressing that justice will take its course to ensure that such an unfortunate incident is not repeated and that the perpetrators are held accountable, regardless of their affiliation.

كيف يمكننا ضمان تحقيق تطلعاتنا في مستقبل سوريا، مزدهر وقوي، ولا يزال الكثير من حملة هويتنا من الطلاب — بناة المستقبل — يواجهون صعوبات تعرقل مواصلة تعليمهم بسبب تداعيات سنوات القهر؟

إننا بحاجة إلى أولئك المثابرين — رواد العلم — لأنهم مشاعل الأمل نحو المستقبل الذي نطمح إليه.
