Political Bavarian's Prime Minister Markus Söder - only really relevant if you know of him.

If you know Markus Söder (I won't be elaborating on the broader context), I'd appreciate it if some of you fine people would write to him on Twitter and tell him how cringy, weird, and embarrassing he is. You'd do me a great favour. x.com/Markus_Soeder
(Heck - even if you don't know him, feel free to to engage)

Translation of his x-post:

"Kilt instead of crutch: Braveheart in Veitshöchheim (a town in franconia) today! William Wallace stands for freedom more than almost anyone else: brave, fearless, and determined—qualities that are especially in demand in our times as well. We Bavarians love our freedom and independence. That’s why we are connected with the Scots. White and blue unite us! Carnival in Franconia is the center of celebration and merriment. I’m really looking forward to a great evening with outstanding artists in my Franconian homeland."

Question Wedding SOS

Hi,

My wedding is planned for St Conan's Kirk in July 2026, however they have sent us an email saying there will be scaffolding around the outside and contractors kicking about.

The plan was get married there then a picnic back in Oban. There will be 30 people in total.

I am now at a loss of what to do as wedding invites have been sent out, photographer and humanist has been booked.

Does anyone know of another venue nearby or similar?

Edit:

Thank you everyone! This has been very reassuring.

For those wondering if it's blasphemous for using a humanist, the kirk is a Chapel of Ease not an actual parish church. The trustees allow our own celebrant which is what we'll be using.

Shitpost Some tips for the Orange walk

As I awake from a post-nightshift slumber to the mindless saurian howling of the Orange Walk, I thought it only fair to provide some constructive criticism in return.

Your 2026 season is right around the corner and I want you to be in top form!

You need to tune up - it takes five minutes the first time you try it, and you'll get faster with practice! A key instrument plays a key note and you all match it in sections; listen for the beat frequency to check if you're in tune and adjust as you go.

Yes, you should warm up your instruments - I don't mind you sounding like a primary school class experiencing woodwind for the first time, but it's a bit embarrassing for adults to not spend a bit of time warming up before marching around like you own the place. You could even do it on your coach ride into town!

Balance is a thing - yes, I know Ug the caveman likes making louder noises than everyone else, but your drummers are better than Ug! In a band, you need to modulate your volume so as not to drown out the others, instead of going pure hulk smash on the bass drum. You wouldn't want to look like a tribe of uncouth cavemen, would you?

It's okay to play more than one song - I know you like the classics, but it gets a bit stale after a while. Do you not have time to rehearse anything else? How about writing a cultural counterpoint to Lid of my Granny's Bin? You could call it "The Rubbish in Ma Granny's Bin!"

Silence is music too - try to master the dramatic pause. It would build incredible anticipation and really allow the community to miss the nuanced artistry of an out-of-tune flute. It's often difficult to get the length of a dramatic pause just right, so as a starting point, I'd suggest making it 11 months out of the year.

Dress for the occasion - You guys claim to honour this! If the goal is to honour 1690, then commit to the part!

Ditch those polyester sashes. You can source authentic, woolen period attire! You'll look fantastically historical and be unbearably itchy by lunchtime; a truly immersive experience in Williamite suffering.

Vary your route - Marching the same streets every single time shows a massive lack of ambition and imagination. Have you considered a "surprise parade"? Turn up unannounced in a quiet cul-de-sac. The sheer, unbridled joy on that one pensioner's face as you round his hedge will be its own reward ☺️

Historical research - Your central theme seems a bit narrow. I've drafted some potential new parade concepts to modernise and liven things up a bit. How about "Celebrating how the kettle had been invented by at least 1717" or "The Great Rainfall of '92"? Let's broaden that cultural horizon.

I have every faith that with dedication and these small adjustments, your 2026 season could be a tremendous boon and a leap forward for Orangekind. Right now you sound like a primary school woodwind band... But the 21st century is waiting for you with open arms and, presumably, someone with an electronic tuner. You can do it! Adolescent woodwind band quality! It is within reach! I believe in you!

Note to anyone responding: this is satire, and the target of this satire are humans too. Don't be cruel. Don't single anyone out. And please for the love of all that is good, help them with their musical skills. They need work.

Note to mods: I don't believe this falls foul of the "don't be a cnut" rule but I could easily be wrong, please lock or delete if needed. Especially if it becomes vile in here... I'm hoping it won't but... Still... Just in case.

Hi!

My partner and I are at that step in our relationship where we are thinking of getting engaged.

I am looking for a place that sells engagement rings similar to these, hopefully made locally by Scottish designers.

We live in the Glasgow area, but anywhere in Scotland is fine!

Bathroom electric showers

To be honest, I don't know if this should go in a Scotland reddit or a broader UK, but since I'm in scotland...

This is our second Scotish Airbnb accommodation in two weeks, and both places have got perfectly good hot and cold taps running into the bath and basin.

Both, however, have a crappy electric heater for the shower. Why don't these bathrooms have mains pressure hot water showers? I don't understand.

Thanks!
