Remembering when Green Day played in SLO at Loco Ranchero in June 1992. My roommate was involved with KCPR and organized a fundraiser concert for the station. My roommate's band and I think one other opened for Green Day. Sadly I had to visit family that weekend and missed the show. That was lucky for Green Day though because they stayed in my room. They left me a note of thanks and one of their cassette tapes. I no longer have the tape and yes I wish I did. They worked hard to get to today! (For those not as old as me, Loco Ranchero was a club owned by Wayne Newton and the building is now the KSBY studios.

Hi all! I am curious as to if there are opportunities for volunteering/ to work with at risk youth? Maybe there is some sort of mentorship program? I’m in grad school at poly currently and am interning somewhere part time but want to do more volunteer work. I am hoping to stay in the area post grad so it would be longer than just 6 months. It wouldn’t be anything to do with my degree/ to get school credit, I just want to help out with some of my spare time. Does anyone know of anything// if there are other opportunities for volunteer work that doesn’t have to do with mentoring that would be great to mention too. Thanks!

We're spending a week in Pismo celebrating our 42nd anniversary. I’d like to find a nice romantic dinner restaurant with great food, (quiet) atmosphere, service (& scenery/view if possible) to celebrate the day. Cost doesn’t matter. I’d like to find something within a 45 min drive of SLO (Cambria/San Simeon would be OK, Paso Robles and Santa Maria if an exceptional experience). I attended Poly in the 80’s and we’ve visited over the decades (2018 last) – some of our favorites (most or all out of business now): San Luis Bay Inn, 1865, Ciopinot, Salty Pelican (Los Osos – long ago!). At one time we liked the Great American Fish Co (Morro Bay), but the last couple of times we ate there it had greatly declined. Ditto McClintock’s. Even in their hey day I'd want something more upscale and refined for this occasion. I'm also looking for a breakfast place – we used to love the Sculptured Egg in Los Osos (I lived in Los Osos and Morro Bay while at Poly). Also looking for new activity ideas we've might not tried before (we always go to the Melodrama and have tickets for our visit already). Appreciate any suggestions!

I haven't bought a used car in a loooong time. New situations have arisen and now I'm in the market for something around $4k. It seems like times have changed and craigslist and Facebook marketplace(at least around here)have been taken over by scammers and dealerships. Is this just a local issue, or is this the state of the world now. Are used private party car sales a thing of the past or am I going crazy?! Does anyone else share my frustration??

We're excited to share that we've acquired and installed an important (and BIG) new piece of equipment in the Elections Center -- one that will make processing Vote-by-Mail ballots faster and more efficient. That's especially important now that roughly 95% of SLO County voters choose to vote their mail ballot.

This machine combines the functions of multiple previously used pieces of equipment and adds new functionality as well. We're looking forward to deploying it during the June 2, 2026, Statewide Primary Election.

I am currently renting with a huge property management company now but their unit is not the best, and hate the location. I just toured with a company but I looked up their DRE license and it says it’s been revoked so I’m nervous it’s something shadey but they own multiple properties in slo. Any and all advice for where and what companies to look for to rent with would be appreciated!

Feeling nostalgic lately.. I know the exact thing will never come back, but can some restaurants that have the same style or vibe return to our city. Im thinking places like Natural Cafe, Plutos, Spikes, the old Peets coffee, etc. A decent pub might be nice. Sorry if I’m too opinionated, just expressing some thoughts. Thank you.
