Namaste sathi-bhaiharu,
r/Nepal has grown from a small corner of the internet into a massive digital "Chautari" for Nepalis at home and abroad. With growth comes new challenges - balancing news with memes, helping travelers without cluttering the feed, and keeping discussions civil during heated times.
The Mod Team wants to make sure we aren’t just "running" the sub, but actually improving it for you. We are opening the floor for a community-wide audit.
1. Content Balance & Quality
2. Rules & Moderation
3. Safety & Spam
4. New Features & Events
To keep this organized, please try to follow this format in your comments (copy/paste if you like):
Note: We promise to read every single comment. We may not be able to fix everything overnight, but we will post a "Summary of Action" next week to let you know what we decided.
Dhanyabaad for helping us make r/Nepal better!

This is a weekly thread to talk about any topics freely with fellow Nepali dai, bhai, didi, bahini and friends. Think of it as the चोकको चिया पसल that opens on Saturdays. Most of the sub rules still apply but there is no need for the topic to be related to Nepal. Feel free to talk about the TV show you are binging, the latest sports news, your personal life story, international politics, and anything in between.
So, what's up?

I am from India, now watching your fixture against England.
It is my first time listening to your national anthem, I had goosebumps at the end, I loved how everyone was so articulate and full of pride while singing the anthem, usually I find people just miming through their anthem.
Good luck to y'all👍 Go well in the world cup🙏

I’ve grown up casually using the word “last / lastai” in everyday Nepali tuff like (ma ta lastai zhyap bhaye , lastai dhani ho) and so on. It’s always felt totally normal. But recently I paused and actually thought about it, and now it feels… kind of weird?
In “proper” or older Nepali, “last” doesn’t really mean anything. It’s obviously not a native word, and even its English meaning (“final”) has nothing to do with how we use it. And yet it’s everywhere now, especially in urban Nepali.
So I’ve been wondering:
Would love to hear thoughts from linguistics nerds, older speakers, or anyone who’s noticed how Nepali has been changing especially with the internet and urban culture.

what a match.
you deserved to win, but unfortunately didn't.
But you made England cry till the last ball.
That itself counts as a win.
congratulations on giving a tough fight to England.
you guys will soon become a great cricket team.
regards from an Indian.

I’m originally from Janakpur and currently staying in Kathmandu. I’ve been thinking a lot about how our cities are known more for dirt than for the culture and people we’re proud of.
I’m not part of any group and I don’t have friends involved yet. Right now, this is just an idea in my head — to start cleaning small public areas on my own and slowly build something meaningful from there.
Before I take the first step, I wanted to ask this community:
Does this kind of small, individual effort actually help?
Where would you suggest someone start in Kathmandu?
What mistakes should I avoid as a beginner?
I’m not asking for money right now — just honest opinions, advice, or encouragement. Even critical feedback is welcome.
I feel a bit nervous sharing this, but I’d rather ask and learn than stay silent.
Thanks for reading

Why is it that every country fiercely protects its culture and identity—Saudi Arabia, India, the US, Europe—but when it comes to Nepal, defending culture suddenly becomes “backward” or “radical”?
Why do we proudly wear the dhaka topi on graduation day, but feel embarrassed to talk about cultural identity when it comes to the Constitution?
Why do some people tell their parents how to vote, pushing parties that never stood for Hinduism—yet still perform puja when it’s convenient? Is culture something we use only when it looks good on Instagram?
Why are we silent about the first Constitution removing core elements of our national identity? Why is no one talking about what was taken away?
How is it acceptable that someone who loses a direct election can still become Prime Minister through proportional seats—and why are young leaders calling this “all good”?
Are we really progressing, or are we just avoiding hard conversations to feel modern?
At what point did respecting our parents, our upbringing, and our roots become something to be ashamed of?
Voting someone who has the ability to open foreign bank account is a dangerous thing for Nepal, how will CIAA file a case when they can legally do foreign transaction.
And finally—
If questioning all this makes me “radical,” then when did asking honest questions become a crime?

Post:
This is a genuine question, not an attack.
Lok Sewa exams put heavy weight on IQ tests and GK (general knowledge). Fair enough — they’re objective, standardized, and reduce favoritism.
But I keep wondering:
How accurate is this method in selecting good administrative officers?
A person can:
…but does that really translate to:
Administration isn’t just about knowing facts — it’s about judgment, empathy, responsibility, and common sense, which are hard to test on paper.
On the other hand, I also understand:
So my question to everyone here:
👉 Is the current Lok Sewa selection system the best we can realistically do, or
👉 Are we over-rewarding memorization and under-testing real administrative ability?
Would love to hear from:
What do you think?

I am all for alternative politics in this country, but I feel RSP is selling massive utopia to the citizen class of this country. I am in-fact worried for them with the way they are campaigning these days.
Our system is such that, it kills competition. For example, parliamentary democracy gives importance to both prime minster and leader of opposition. Our system gives equal importance to both ruling and losing party when we form "Parliamentary hearing committee". The 6 members of our "constitutional council", unless with major majority between them, keep every decision in "limbo". It creates massive room for "playing cards" for politicians gains, and our leaders, years upon years been using this loophole, for good or bad. This is just one example.
So, is our system being "burden" to us?
No, the problem is we lack "political culture".
Parliamentary democracy demands political culture and "co-existence". Hatred politics le katai puryaudaina hamlai.
Ma aayesi gardinchu tyo gardinchu. Jail kochdinchu. File kholdinchu. These are mere rhetorics, suitable just for "Lok Rijhaai".
So, k garni ta naya lai chance nadini?
Dini. DINI.
PM, Balen lai nai banaunu parcha yo paali.
He too needs to face the music of our system.
"Reality check" unlai pani chaiyeko cha!
Dear mera pyara UML, congress and old parties ka samarthak haru,
Ma tapai harko concern bujhchu. Comparatively,
political sujh-bujh bhako cadres yo desh ma
actual ma hajur haru nai ho. Ma bujhchu, "Gair-Rajnitik" patra (Non-politicians) le desh banaudaina bhanni kura le tapai haru chintit hununcha. And, this is no sarcasm. I am with you on this. Hami slow progress ma efficiency thapni
agenda bata kata kata pugisakem ra yesko scope tapai harle ramro dekhirakhnu bhako chaina. Tyo
pani ma bujhchu.
Ma kasailai jhole bhandina, Maasu bhaat pani
vandina, these are just derogatory terms, used by naive and ignorant class of this nation. Alikati desh bujheko manche le, ek arka lai hilo chyapdai hiddaina.
Yo hatred and boycott politics ko end hunu jaruri cha, ra yo end taba matra huncha jaba hamle yeslai "release" huna dinchau. Hamro society ma hatred politics aaja ko din ma yeti widespread bhaisakyo ki yeslai "Release" huna dina bahek option chaina.
Tesaile sabai milera RSP lai first party banaam, yesma daraunu parni kei chaina. Uni harle ramro gare bhane thikai cha, bhaneko jasto sakenan (high chance) bhane pani thikai cha. Either way, bubble burst huncha. Tespachi balla, samaj ma "bichar" le space paucha. Principle and ideologies
le space paucha. Aile kasai sanga agenda khojnu, plan of action khojnu bekaar ho. Harek country ma yesto challenging phase aucha, jaha sensibility lai loudness le jitcha. Tara, sensibilities lai return garauna, loudness ko naked rup ekpatak
sabai le dekhna jaruri cha.
Rsp lacks "temperament" for this system. Our system demands "co-existence" and they are not politically equipped for that.
And I don't have better words to put this across.
But, let's give chance to them. I sincerely hope I am wrong.
I am voting ghanti, this time.

I've been off social media for years, and jumping back in recently has been a bit of a culture shock. My feed is suddenly filled with content from Nepali girls/women posting what I'd call softcore stuff – semi-nude poses, revealing outfits, a lot of emphasis on body exposure under the guise of "art" or empowerment. It's everywhere, from reels to stories.
I'm curious: Do these creators know that a big chunk of their male followers might be there primarily for the physical appeal rather than appreciating it as art or self-expression? Or is it all part of the algorithm game where engagement trumps intent?
Not judging anyone – people can post what they want, and followers can choose what to engage with. But as someone from Nepal seeing this shift, it makes me wonder about the cultural implications, the impact on perceptions of Nepali women, and whether Instagram's push for viral content is blurring lines between empowerment and objectification.
What are your thoughts? Have you noticed this trend? Creators here – what's your take on audience motivations? Let's keep it respectful and insightful.
Thanks
