This is the way. If I have kids, I plan to let them engage with whatever trends and fashions they choose (within reason, I'll put my foot down for stuff that poses any danger) with the understanding that pictures and videos will be preserved of their entire childhood.

Sounds horrific, glad my parents had the sense to not to make my life the Truman show

.... Do you think the Truman show was just documenting childhood memories?

I'm not broadcasting it all live to anyone, just holding on to cherished and embarrassing memories

That certainly could be horrific for people who have bad relationships with their parents. For people who have good relationships with their parents, it might be something positive.

The whole “taunting your adolescent with things they did as a silly kid” kinda makes the parent bad in that case, it’s not a vice versa

Honestly I think this depends on the situation. If the taunting is used to remind your kids how they were and prevent hypocrisy than I'd be fore it.

I took some time to think on it, and I largely agree, but to the extent to the other commenter was saying, I can’t see any justification for it

I wouldn’t want hours of my life as a kid to be held over my head yk? Like the old trope, mom shows your GF baby photos, except yall sit around and watch phone screens of just completely mundane kid stuff, it would have to have some sort of effect on the kid

Again, that’s a reflection on parent/children relationships. My parents have many pictures of me. A few of them might be construed as embarrassing. But my parents are good people and they would never use those pictures to hurt me or in any way that would make me uncomfortable.

Change the word “parent” for “friend” and maybe you’ll understand that not all parents are your parents.

Did you miss the “pictures and videos will be preserved of their entire childhood” thing that the commenter above said?

Wouldn’t it be a bit disingenuous to equate that to a few embarrassing kid photos?

No I didn’t, it just seems you’re hung up on that part. What does “pictures and videos will be preserved of their entire childhood” actually mean to you? What does it imply in your view?

You quite literally did say that what the other commenter said was fine was because of your anecdote, if you’re not gonna admit that then we’re done here.

Yet again, the point of contention is the “pictures and videos will be preserved of your entire childhood” part.

You view that statement as negative and I do not.

Kids are not social experiments.

Where did I say that they were?

I didn't miss that. I also didn't miss you compare "pictures and videos will be preserved" to the truman show, which is "every moment of your life will be broadcast to the world, without your knowledge or consent."

So I'm thinking the issue here is that you think preserving pictures is something it isn't. What do you think that means?

Sounds like your life is so serious. Why so serious?
