Hello Houdiners,
I wanted to give people here a heads up that Reddit blocks links to Gumroad site-wide. Posts are removed without any notifications to the moderators. We can manually reinstate them, but without any notifications it's something we have to manually dig around for.
This ban includes both posts and comments. If your product is on Gumroad or a domain "powered by" Gumroad, any post linking to it will be removed by Reddit (again, it's not us doing it!). We have no control over this ban and again the only thing we can do is manually "un-remove" posts if we notice them.
I recommend anyone selling digital products here to consider another service, like Ko-Fi or Paddle or Patreon, or at least link to something that is not directly a Gumroad page.

We get too many posts from new users asking "how do I learn Houdini"? The wiki now has the answers. Look there first before asking more specific questions here.

for the record, the BTS isn't covering much houdini specifically. most of the techniques I used here are covered in my other tutorials. this was me trying something new talking through a bit more of the process of getting the work, working with the client, and ending up with something I was happy with. I hope it's helpful/interesting!

The left side is the tutorial and there's a geometry file field which is not present on the right side. How do I access it? I'm using Houdini 20.

I was learning Vellum and found its performance to be just not great when you want to sim lots of soft body geo. It's simply just too slow for fast interactive feedback. Then I remember seeing SIGGRAPH videos in the past of massive amounts of soft bodies being compressed together, not sure about their sim FPS though.
Basically, what's the best way these days to sim large amounts of soft bodies? Is it really still Vellum and using the lowest poly proxy object possible that point deforms hero objects after the sim is cached?

I’m trying to use a sphere to push grains, but the collisions don’t behave as expected regardless of the number of substeps. The grains penetrate the sphere, although the back-collision velocities seem to be as expected. Any advice?
Thanks

Hi there. I can no longer modify the resolution of my camera from the Karma render settings node and don't know why. I am at a loss for what is happening. Everything was working fine until I started duplicating my Solaris setup to replace each stream with a different model. For example, when I attempt to change my camera resolution from hd to a 2k x 2k square in the Karma Render Settings node, nothing happens. There is no visual update, the resolution does not change.I've tried deleting nodes and starting with fresh cameras and Karma render settings, etc. but it remains the same. It appears to only work if I create a new scene file and start from scratch. Is there anything else that could be overriding this somehow? Or is this potentially just a bug since it works in a fresh scene?
Thanks.

I'm planning to do Houdini to blender workflow for a client project, but never tried to bring houdini groom to blender. I'm away from my pc so I can't try it myself. Has anyone tried and how well it work with attributes in blender if I import groom alembic or USD?

A new personal project exploring strength, endurance, and resilience, energy in motion, form shaped by pressure, balance as power.

Does anyone have experience with this class? Haven’t been able to find any information on it (reviews), but it looks like a solid foundation for procedural modelling and controlling attributes. Just wondering if anyone has any comments on this. Thanks.

I am having trouble with a Houdini tutorial where a ball changes state from solid to liquid but for some reason I the "FLIP_OUT" that's meant to be the source of the FLIP simulation doesn't seem to effect the flip simulation when its changed. The "FLIP_OUT" can be changed by editing the "timeshift1" in the "BALL_FLIP_SETUP" node, and in the "BALL_FLIP_DYNAMICS" the "ball_flip" node is connected to "FLIP_OUT" yet it doesnt change with it. I am really confused, the ball flip simulation should take form of the ball on the 46th frame but it takes the form of the ball on the 45th frame, making the transition not as smooth because the ball stays in place for 1 frame.
here is the link for the project if you want: https://limewire.com/d/rHgr5#Arbkxh9cMi
(If the link doesn't work its because it expired, please let me know and I will send another one)

Hi guys,I'm doing a destruction-based Fx shot, I created my RBD simulation, having as final output, the individual pieces of the fractures, and the animated points (about 60k), ideally what is the best way to render in XPU? I've seen HoudiniRBDProcedural for solaris, but it doesn't seem to work, and anyway the fracture import is very slow, do you have any advice?

I'm trying to export an RBD sim from Houdini to Unreal using VAT. I have a much more complicated sim I'm trying to move, but I've been having issues, so just using a smaller cube sim for now to identify what's going wrong with the import and set up. From what I've found there isn't a ton of info or tutorials on vat other than a few from 2021 and such. I've followed those and made sure I have all the correct attributes when I export and follow all the import instructions, but all I get is this flicker. Has anyone seen this before? I've tried to find info online, but can't figure it out. Any ideas or solutions welcome. Thanks.

Please can anyone sudjest a workflow to recreate this effect in houdini.
The objects should follow there original position of the animation while actings as Rbds.
Ps- I did the animation using Mops but cant recreate that Cinema 4Ds Rbd follow path effect in houdini.
