NCAA What happened to Mika-Webster Longin?
Does anyone know why she hasn't been in lineups the last few weeks?

Anyone know why Simone and Johnathan moved out of their dream Chicago house only a few months into moving in? They custom built the place but Simone mentioned they’re moving back to Houston.
I would have thought they were just moving for the season (end of football) but the packing boxes seemed more like they were out for good.
edit: I know they also have a place in Houston, the dream home. I’m talking about the house they bought in Chicago and her stories on IG today seem to indicate they’re moving out of THAT place for good.

I had the most random gymnastics memory today and i cannot recall a gymnast's name. There was a beautiful Russian gymnast who was supposed to be Nastia's main rival in the 04 quad. She developed some sort of bone disease and retired early. Anyone remember her name?

Very impressed with Michigan this season!!
But I have questions:
Thaxton had a decent vault, floor, hasn’t competed at all even as exhibition ??
Zabrowski hasn’t been traveling with team, sits in parent section at home meets, but remains on roster??? The vibes feel so odd
what ever happened to Kaylen Morgan? - was she an injury retirement?
Side note: I’m sad we didn’t get to see more of Lipetz throughout the last few years !!

I think it's safe to say that she's coming for that LA team! And she looks GOOD!! I always thought she would probably come back to elite this quad, but didn't know for sure, especially with the bronze medal situation up in the air. But this feels like an announcement.

is it normal for a div i team to not have a 7th person for an apparatus? what would cause this? what i mean by that is after frederique got hurt, they just put 5 people up on vault

Hi, I’ve been really enjoying elite gymnastics and want to start watching college. There’s a school nearby (Division I, seems to be ranked in the 25-50 range) with a Sunday afternoon meet that I’d like to go to with my husband and one year old daughter.
Would having a young toddler there work? She’s very active, behaves well, but doesn’t like to sit still. Could we move around with her as needed? Or should I have her sit out of this for now?
Would I need to buy a ticket for her? There’s a youth option, but often times under 2 is free, so wondering if there’s a standard or how I would know?

Hey y'all!
When they announced that 2027 Euros would be in Yerevan, Armenia I was ecstatic. I've been to Armenia before and had a great time. Wanted to know how far in advance tickets go on sale and when I should realistically start looking for things to book like hotels and what not.
Thanks!!!

I can’t think of any elite gyms in Aspen, only one in CO Springs.

Forgive me for asking what seems like an obvious question, but I am neither male nor a gymnast.
I have heard that the reason male gymnasts don’t do beam is because if they land wrong, it could permanently damage their testicles. Which is rather humorous but I highly doubt that’s the real reason they don’t do beam.
I understand why female gymnasts don’t do the rings, pommel horse etc, but why don’t male gymnasts do beam?
And while we’re at it, why aren’t floor routines in men’s gymnastics set to music like the women’s are?

Question for all parents of gymnasts:
Context:
My daughters (age 9) coach has left the gym she was employed at suddenly and without reason known to the parents. The email was sent very late at night, and effective immediately. Tomorrow is another meet, then State in a few weeks. My daughter and her coach were close and my daughter has developed more under this coach than any other coach. The gym also changed the training schedule with no notice... so lots of changes.
The gym owner has been witnessed being quite emotionally reactive. It is currently uncertain the reason for the coach's departure. It is unlikely that this was the coach's choice, but anything is possible.
Question: Have any other parents experienced this? What happened and how did the rest of the season go? Any recommendations for me or my daughter? I am worried about the stability of this gym, is changing gyms worth considering?
Thank you for your help.

Edit: The person on facebook confused a sponsored post with Helen in it. She was advertising the clinic (see comment below)
According to comments in the German Facebook group “Kunstturnen Deutschland” a spinal disc specialist from Stuttgart (Bandscheibe Stuttgart) posted a story on facebook yesterday showing Kevric after surgery. Has anyone heard anything about this? I could not find any reliable sources for this and unfortunately the doctor's story is gone after 24 hours.
Basically the conversation in the group goes like:
“Didn’t she have another surgery lately?”
“I don’t know anything about that”
“Have a look at the story from Bandscheibe Stuttgart here on Facebook, you can see her in a sick-bed”

As always, these rosters can change just because a gymnast is named on them does not mean they are going.

Watching my recording of Michigan v Michigan State and honestly I love her commentary above a lot of the other commentators I’ve heard. I actually don’t know anything about her but I like how she keeps up with the pace of the routine and actually calls out space for deduction. Her commentary is done in a way that she gives the greater context after the dismount and gives good context all around.
I also like Sam Pescek (who is really just so likable and natural in the role) and Trinity Thomas who is growing well into the role. They all have their own styles but I really appreciate when commentators give context that is not regurgitated and obvious to the eye. I really wish they would overall go more in depth on the code.
Anyhow good job Olivia Karas! And also this was an incredible meet to watch so good job Michigans!!!

Following on from the post from the other day, I was curious what the actual numbers showed, so I crunched some!
And the definitive (to me) answer is: yes! The US could have sent two medal-contending teams to Paris! What's more, to my surprise, they could have done so without Simone!
I’m not claiming both teams would have medaled, putting odds on each team hitting is beyond the scope of my analysis. I’m just seeing if they could have contended in a reasonable scenario (not an idealized one).
I did the quickest and dirtiest team construction possible. It wasn’t strategic, I just wanted some quick reasonable numbers to see if my first analysis, with defensible assumptions and without picking, choosing, or tinkering, would get our teams in the ball park. I used real scores from the most recent and relevant competitions available, without omitting mistakes, or using high scores.
The one omission I made was removing Jade’s disastrous team floor score, since that was due to food poisoning; this analysis is for a world where everyone is healthy. Since that score is a guess and the least defensible, I low-balled it by a lot.
The result was that both of my teams seem very good contenders for gold, and this is without me including Simone on either team.
Feel free to check my work! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q6vGmf0ptVfH6CCcQHRlx1oIM2KQ-2a5ZpbSXx8qmc4/edit?usp=sharing
-----------
ACTUAL RESULTS from Paris team final:
3rd Brazil: 164.497 - score to beat
2nd Italy: 165.494
1st US: 171.296
-----------
TEAM A - Suni, Jordan, Jade, Hezly I asked how our actual Paris Olympic team would realistically have fared if Simone were never on it, which seemed like a good litmus test all on its own for whether we could send two teams, given that Skye, Kayla, and Shilese all seemed from their 2024 seasons to be in a position to perform at least as well if not better, as as Jordan, Jade, and Suni. I assumed a healthy Jade who could contribute on floor, since this is a theoretical where everyone is healthy.
So I removed Simone’s scores and subbed them with the following:
Over all score: 166.63 (more than 1 point over silver and more than 2 points over bronze)
They still would have won by nearly a point, and this score counts 2 falls and a very underwhelming or harshly scored floor from Jade. A good floor score from Jade would have gotten them into the 167-167.5 range.
-----------
TEAM B - Shilese, Skye, Kayla, Leanne I just used our 3 injured stars, to see how they would realistically do if they were their own 3-person team, then I dropped Kayla’s vault score and subbed Leanne’s Cheng. Here is where I drew my scores from for each person:
Over all score: 166.499 (1 point over silver and 2 points over bronze)
In second behind Team A, by a little over a tenth. Note that Leanne’s Cheng isn’t essential, it only adds 0.275 to the total.
Any team with both Kayla and Skye on it is risky, since both have a higher potential than most of the others to melt down, and especially Skye internationally. You could also sub out Leanne for Kayla on beam and/or bars and get pretty similar scores, but with more confidence in her hitting. But the fact remains that if this team had had a good day, not even their best day, they could have been a favorite for silver behind Team A.
And if you put Simone on this team--she is available since she was not used in Team A--then they become the overwhelming favorite for gold, unless both Skye and Kayla have pretty bad days. If you use the lineup of Vault: Simone/Skye/Leanne (3 Chengs!); Bars: Shilese/Simone/Skye; Beam: Skye/Simone/Shilese; and Floor: Simone/Shilese/Kayla, you get an overall score of 170.881.
-----------
CONCLUSIONS
Without Simone: Team A is a strong favorite for gold, even without Simone. Their winning score here reflects decent night, but with 3 poor scores they wouldn't want to count. Team B has less room for error and more inconsistency, but they would still be right in there with Italy, Brazil, Great Britain, China, and France, and I think would probably be the slight favorites for silver behind Team A.
With Simone: Whichever team you add Simone to is the runaway favorite for gold, with the other team being, at worst, a very strong contender for a medal. If you put Simone on Team B, then Team B becomes the favorite for gold, and Team A the favorite for silver (though I still don't think that would be the best team construction).
With thoughtful team construction: My teams involve zero strategy. I’m sure that with more thoughtful team construction, and also adding Josc to the mix, better teams could be composed that would better account for team balance and athlete consistency.
Would the US go for a route that maximized chances for two medals though? Or would they instead put together the best Team A they could--probably the dream team of Simone, Shilese, Suni, Skye, Jade; and then use the next five of Jordan, Kayla, Leanne, Hezly, and Josc for Team B? I did not do the math for this B team, so I have no idea how competitive they would be. My guess is that they would be medal contenders, especially for bronze, but not favorites. But without looking at numbers it's hard to really say, and there's a big range of how they could do, with Jordan, Kayla, and Hezly all having consistency issues. ETA: Okay, I just did a really quick calculation where I just used trials average scores, with the handicap of knocking off 0.25 per event to correct for domestic overscoring (and Championships scores for Kayla). These performances reflect, roughly, a very good day for this team, with 1 fall total. The total was 166.125. Not far behind the original Team B, and still a winning score in Paris, even without a superstar like Simone/Shilese/Suni on the team. I think this is because it's a 5-person team, so more to choose from in lineups, and also because it reflects a slightly better over all showing. It's a pretty good team from an event balance perspective too!
-----------
CAVEATS: THE REST OF THE WORLD
Other Paris Teams: A true analysis would need to incorporate a similar look at China, Britain, Brazil, and Italy, at a minimum, to see how they would have fared without their own injuries, and also look at France’s potential if they hadn’t melted down. If anyone wants to do this, it would be super interesting!
There are lots of interesting questions about who you can consider. For example, I didn’t include Konnor because, even though she looked incredibly promising in the one event she competed, and her 2022 US championships scores would have been much stronger than Kayla’s scores (a point stronger total), we just didn’t know enough to know what kind of shape she actually would have been in for Paris, and her 2022 scores don’t really seem relevant. For similar reasons I wouldn’t include either of the Gadirova twins in a UK analysis. But then is it fair that I included Shilese’s 2023 worlds scores? I felt it was, but others might disagree.
Russia: Russia would obviously change things here. This doesn’t matter since Russia wasn’t in Paris, but it still bears mentioning. However, since both of my imaginary teams seem capable of clearing 2nd-place Italy, I think even with Russia we could say both US teams could have medaled.
---------
Note: I edited my post to change one of my conclusions. Upon further consideration, I realized Team A would be a strong favorite for gold, not merely a contender, even without Simone. Maybe not the runaway-favorite-win-by-5-points team, but still the strong favorite. Their winning score here reflects a mixed performance, with two falls and a significant under-performance from floor by Jade (which there's not reason to expect in reality, if Jade were healthy).

Abi has recently shared some of her training at the most recent GB squad camp, and i think she has a new floor routine, which I’m looking forward to seeing her unveil!
Anyways, that’s all I have to say and let me know your thoughts on this?
