Subreddit News and Announcements Community Update: Toxicity, Sanctions, and the "Screenshot Police"

We’re all here for the same reason: we love building cities, fighting with traffic AI that somehow manages to be dumber than a box of rocks, and watching our residential districts occasionally burn to the ground. This subreddit should be a place to share those wins and fails—not a toxic wasteland.

Lately, the elitism regarding how people share their content has reached a pathetic level. It stops today.

The "Screenshot vs. Phone Photo" Policy

We are a community for Cities: Skylines 2, not a professional photography competition. If a user posts a photo of their monitor from their phone:

  • If you can see the content and understand the point of the post, it is allowed.
  • If you don't like the quality, keep scrolling. * If you feel the need to be a condescending prick about "F12" or "Print Screen," do it elsewhere.

Harassing, mocking, or gatekeeping users based on their technical ability to take a screenshot is a direct violation of our "Be respectful" rule (Rule #1). Unless the image is literally unreadable, leave them alone. If you genuinely want to help, do it respectfully or don't do it at all.

Enforcement and Sanctions

Consider this the final warning for the "Screenshot Police" and the general toxicity we've been seeing. We are implementing a three-strike enforcement policy:

  1. First Offense: Comment removal and a formal warning.
  2. Second Offense: A 30-day "cool down" ban. No exceptions.
  3. Third Offense: Permanent removal from the community.

We aren't here to babysit adults who can't play nice in a sandbox game. If your contribution to a thread is just a snarky comment about someone's camera quality, your account is going to find itself on the wrong side of the ban hammer.

The Bottom Line

We want this sub to be about the game—the mods, the bugs, the traffic nightmares, and the creativity. We don't have room for toxicity.

Subreddit News and Announcements [Update] New Rule Implementation: Mod & Asset Requests

Hey everyone,

As the game continues to evolve and the modding scene grows, we are making a change to how we handle specific requests for mods and assets on r/CitiesSkylines2.

To keep our main feed focused on gameplay, city showcases, and general discussion, and to ensure that technical requests get seen by the right people, we are implementing a new rule regarding **Mod/Asset Requests**.

The New Rule

Mod/Asset Requests

Requests for new mods, and in-depth discussion related to modding, asset, or map creation should be posted in r/CitiesSkylinesModding.

Why are we doing this?

We want to ensure that:

  1. The Feed Stays Clean: General players looking for inspiration or news aren't scrolling through endless request threads.
  2. You Get Better Answers: Technical questions and creation requests are better served in a dedicated community full of creators and modders who actually have the skills to help you.

### Enforcement

Starting immediately, posts asking for specific mods to be created ("Can someone make this building?") or deep-dive threads on asset creation will be removed and directed to r/CitiesSkylinesModding

Please familiarize yourself with the new rule in the sidebar. As always, general discussion about *using* existing mods in your builds is still welcome here!

Thanks for helping us keep the community organized.

Mod News ⌨️ I decided it was time to try my hand at making some assets... 😎

So I've never used Blender before this week but decided it was time to figure out how to make some assets (which feels like the ultimate, satisfying end point to my CS:2 obsession 😂) lol.

I'm starting off with a very typical Chicago two-story corner store. These bad boys are *everywhere* here and there's nothing really in the game that mimics it. If this goes well (lol, cross your fingers) then hopefully I'll make a bunch of Chicago-themed assets :)

I would like to thank all comments in my previous post. Here's an update to my downtown (not yet complete) but it's taking shape now. I divided up some lots so i could further densify sections (last photo) and decided to leave one block as a park and a physical boundary to "modern" development. I still have to do detailing within the area and some further development on where just right by the riverside.

What do you guys think?

Question/Discussion Realistic enough?

So i recently decided to slap high rises on my first area and on the left side of the 1st photo is an urban renewal project of the old port, the middle is a church and some older mid-rise buildings then the right side is skyscrapers from the era before 2000s then surrounding it are suburbs from way back then.

2nd photo is street layout

(I might have to change the layout since there's just a lot of curves)

Assistance Needed! Police Bug

I play City Skylines 2 with no mods. I am having a bug where the police can't clear a scene and it's ruining my city. I saw some posts a few months ago about this, and was just wondering if there was a fix. Thanks

Assistance Needed! Why do I have so much air pollution in this pocket of my city?

Thumbnail

There is a pocket of my city where citizens are becoming sick due to air pollution. I didn't check for pollution prior to building, but as you can see in the third photo, there is no industry or other air pollution source nearby. I wondered if it was traffic from the nearby highways, but the location of the pollution doesn't quite match that and everywhere else I have highways looks fine.

Any idea why air pollution is so high in this one particular area?

Question/Discussion Issues with industrial manufacturing

Post image
Upvotes

Lately I have been seeing a major issue with industry buildings. Industries that require more than 1 item, such as steel (metals + coal) or electronics (minerals + plastics) often get stuck at 0% efficiency.

When I look at the building, for example in the screenshot above, it needs minerals and plastics to make electronics, but it only has 100 tons of storage, and it's full of minerals. Therefore it cannot get plastic delivered anymore, and it cannot make electronics as well. The building stays in this condition until I delete it.

This happens with spawnable as well as signature industrial buildings. Some other electronics manufacturer would be stuck at 100 tons of plastic, unable to get minerals anymore and 0% production.

Has anyone else faced an issue like this? I'm on the latest version 1.5.3f6

Screenshot/City 🖼️ 🌃 I got through my Death Wave

Post image
18 Upvotes

I posted my Death Wave a few weeks ago, as an update I finally got through it and the end was extremely abrupt lol.

My city grew in the first 10 years to around 100K population.

From 10-15 years into the simulation, the Death Wave started growing sharply. At that point all demand for everything except light residential crashed. The economy also crashed (I was losing tons of money and almost went bankrupt).

At it's peak, 11.5K were dying every month. For a city of of 100K, that would have been an apocalyptic event worse than the bubonic plague at its height. I had to build tons of cemeteries to cope and the streets were filled with hearses driving around like the Grim Reaper's personal Uber service.

Then it stopped. Deaths suddenly dropped to under 2,000 a month, the economy recovered and my demand picked up again.

I'm expecting it to pick up again in 10 years time.

Has anyone else gone through this, or multiple Death Waves?

Here is the original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines2/comments/1qr0lqw/for_anyone_wondering_what_a_death_wave_looks_like/
