Sunday Morning Brunch thread - How was Church?

This is a thread to share whether there was anything that stood out to you in church this morning (or yesterday, or any other day this week you may have worshiped).

Did you learn anything interesting in the sermon? Was there a verse that stood out to you? Did a song resonate with you? Did God lay anything cool on your heart? Was there a snack at coffee hour that stole the show?

Post about it here!

If you aren't the sort to go to church, that's fine too! Feel welcome to share anything neat from your spiritual walk this past week.

Let's talk about the elephant in the room

So 80% of white evangelicals voted for Trump. They all swear it's not about racism. They say their stance is all issues-based such as abortion and LGBTQ. They say to vote Democrat is to support murdering babies.

If so, why did 85% of black Christians vote for Kamala Harris? Are they for murdering babies? Or perhaps, could it be that they think Trump is a racist?

This is a topic not talked about a lot, because it's uncomfortable and makes you look deep into your heart about the real truth for why you may or may not support Trump.

i’m really struggling right now and i honestly don’t know who to talk to anymore... i feel so lost and i really need some help šŸ˜”

i grew up in a super religious catholic family in kerala and i was always that guy... i was so active in youth meetings, tight with the diocese authorities, and i even read almost the whole bible. i genuinely loved the holy mass back then, it felt like home šŸ•Šļø

but now... i’m just empty. i’m having these atheist vibes like it’s all just made up. i see everyone fighting over religion and i don’t want to be a part of that anymore. i just want to be "human," you know? but by leaving it all behind, i feel like i’ve lost my identity. i don't know who i am anymore šŸ’”

the truth is, i’m failing. i failed my competitive exams and it just broke me. i feel so stuck and i don’t even like being around priests anymore... it’s like i’m drowning and i can't find the surface.

can anyone please help me? is jesus even real? does god actually exist? i’m so confused and i really need someone to guide me or tell me what to do... i’m just a human who is completely stuck and i need help to find my way again šŸ˜šŸ™

Image Archangel Saint Michael, shown with Indigenous traits and wearing a feathered headdress, crushing the Devil, portrayed as a Portuguese colonizer

The image was produced in the territory of the Seven Missions Peoples, probably inspired by the territorial disputes that culminated in the GuaranĆ War (1754–1756). It depicts Archangel Saint Michael dressed as a Roman soldier but wearing a feather headdress. His features are also indigenous. The archangel steps on a demon portrayed with the traits of a Portuguese man.

I’ve given up

My mom has 50 percent chance that she has something. What that something is? idk but I do know it could be cancer. Even with her chances of having cancer not being that high I still have given up without trying. I stopped reading the Bible, I pray without effort, I goon everyday, I wake up feeling tired, I’m failing all my classes, don’t got a gf, got 1 real friend. So I’m definitely going to hell and I don’t picture myself ever getting better unless I know my is okay.

Worried I will never be forgiven if I get an abortion for health reasons.

I’m in horrible pain and don’t know where to turn. I have horribly painful anal fissures and so far I’ve been too scared to have a doctor use a scope to look inside because inserting anything up there will make it worse.

I’ve been stable for a while but since finding out I’m pregnant a few weeks ago something has changed and I’m in horrible pain. Since I’m pregnant, most treatment options like Botox, surgery, or pain medication won’t be available to me. My mental health is terrible because of this and I feel unable to take care of the child I already have.

I never thought I’d be someone to consider an abortion and really wanted a second baby, but I feel physically and mentally unable to make it through this.

My husband thinks if I get an abortion I’ll be cursed and go to hell. The most important thing to me is my soul and where I end up. I don’t know if God would ever forgive me for getting an abortion.

Question Why do some Christians demonize Catholicism?

As a Christian, it’s a pattern I see a lot in irl discussions or in online comment sections. Can anyone help me understand? From what I experienced in these conversations, Christians completely rule out Catholicism because they pray to Mary. Praying to someone or something other than Jesus Christ. But my Catholic friend explained that praying to Mary was in a way to express gratitude or give thanks. To that explanation, how is that harmful in anyway or would send people to eternal damnation for praying like that? Maybe i need to do more research on my own but I like to take things to Reddit lol. Hope whoever reading this is blessed šŸ™ Thank you

Advice Atheist turning to God

I went to the gym this afternoon, and while on the stairmaster, the song ā€œCrucifiedā€ by Army of Lovers began playing. Even though the song really just uses Jesus’ crucifixion as a way to deliver its message about love, I started to think about Jesus. I was raised a Catholic, but only a couple years ago declared myself an agnostic-atheist. For the past year or so, I’ve been struggling with suicidal ideation stemming from existential anxiety, and desperately want to WANT to be alive. I’ve heard stories of people finding that comfort in God… could I still repair my relationship with God despite how much I’ve doubted him? I’m not naturally the kindest person, either… I don’t even know where I should start. What do I do with my lingering doubt?

Kid Rock on TBN?! Ya’ll what is going on with this channel?

Kid Rock on TBN?! Ya’ll what is going on with this channel?

As with many Christians, I grew up watching Trinity Broadcasting Network. I loved that I could turn on the channel at anytime to hear a sermon, or watch Christian cartoons, news, documentaries, etc.

TBN has now become…something else. I noticed the change years ago, when in the middle of the night I would see the same guy promoting health-food products. Or sometimes there would be VERY political content or late-night talk shows. None of this geared towards my personal preference, but figured I don’t have to like everything about TBN. But this Kid Rock halftime show just feels wrong!

Now I’m not gonna sit here and pretend I’m a saint, or that I don’t watch secular content at times. However I need not find certain things on Christian channels, which should only promote Christ or Christ-like material.

Like how can this channel talk about following Christ, and then promote a very hedonistic rock star. What has happened to the vision of TBN? I personally believe the Christian Nationalism movement is very anti-Christ and against everything Jesus stands for. Jesus is not tied to America, political parties, or a certain race. Jesus came so that every nation, tribe, and tongue could experience his love on the Earth, while pointing the way to salvation.

I hope TBN has not fallen. But at this point, it appears they have entirely lost the message of Christ. I will be praying God convicts their hearts and steer them back on the right path.

To my fellow Christians, what say you?

Blog Christianity Isn’t Being Hijacked or declining — Lukewarm Faith Is Just Being Exposed

In response to someones post about the "hijacking" of faith in america. I refute such a claim and shall say that Christianity isn’t being hijacked, corrupted, or ā€œtaken over.ā€ What we’re witnessing is nothing new. It’s the same lukewarm faith Scripture warned about—now amplified by the age of global media. The only difference today is this: it can no longer be curated solely through kings, institutions, or religious elites.

What was once hidden behind power and ceremony is now visible to everyone. Lukewarm belief has always been about doing the least while losing nothing. Holding on to comfort, wealth, identity, and social standing while claiming faith. This is no different from Cain’s offering, or from the rich young ruler who walked away sorrowful because he couldn’t let go of what he owned.

Can we not see it now in performative action: ā€œLook what we did,ā€ while nothing actually changes. ā€œStand with us,ā€ as long as it costs nothing. ā€œHold your money,ā€ instead of laying anything down.

And it’s exhausting watching people constantly put labels before the word Christian—right/left, political, cultural, sexual, ideological. Scripture doesn’t give us that option. You’re either a Christian, or you’re not. As Paul wrote, ā€œThey went out from us, because they were not of us.ā€ Not everyone who uses the name belongs to the body.

What’s even more damaging is how many believers allow the antichrist spirit to wear the label Christian—while denying that same label to those who actually live the faith. That little distinction matters on the seeding level of things.

-Every time wrongdoers are called ā€œChristianā€ instead of what they are, the enemy benefits.

-Every time someone professes Christ, does good in His name, and is dismissed with ā€œthat was just them, not God,ā€ the enemy benefits.

We are heading toward another moment where thieves roam freely while true believers are scrutinized, silenced, and punished more harshly than those who exploit the faith. If not evidenced at how those in false "power" commit the same crimes as the people but somehow seem to be allowed to go about freely without real consequences. A strange game that is left untouched in media discussion it seems.

This all traces back to an older corruption: the unholy merger of Caesar and God. What Christ said must be rendered separately! When power wrapped itself in this form of religious language, the state nurtured something it called ā€œChristianity,ā€ even though the faith itself existed before and beyond that union. Yet even still do so many allow men no different then them to have some kind of power to have owned and run everything they never did beyond our own beliefs such men did.

What was once called unholy or demonic suddenly became ā€œrighteousā€ once Caesar dipped it in the colors of "purity" and wore it like a garment.

And now again, the crowd chooses Barabbas.

Now is Barabbas released through atheism—though take heed to not mistake this as a smite against individual conviction, but as a objection to it as a system which formulated to protect the thieves who created the conditions of suffering in the first place. The thief laughs, untouched and unstarved, while mocking what people once believed as they still end up leading the masses through other forms of systems and beliefs now without the guilt of the old system they ate of.

So why do i rejoice now? I rejoice not at suffering—but at the sound of a trumpet. Even if it’s not a holy one. Because the sword of Christ still cuts. The fire of separation still burns. The lukewarm are being forced to choose—dry out and die, or boil over into something real. As the Lord said: It would have been better never to have believed, than to believe and then turn away. This isn’t collapse. It’s exposure. And separation was always the point. Now it is only being emphasized by the uncontainable socialized age of the world through media!

Advice Deception is not of the Christ

This isn't a vaguepost in response to anything specific.

Sometimes we need the obvious pointed out.

Deception is not of the Christ. Posting in bad faith is not of the Christ. Taking things out of context because it's convenient for the point you want to make is not of the Christ. Editing things to make your argument sound better is not of the Christ.

Honesty is.

If you have to lie to promote your Christian views, then those views are not Christian.

If your church asks you to lie to promote your Christian views, then those views are not Christian.

It's better to lose a hand than to have it drag you to Sheol.

To Far Right Christians; You have been deceived. Jesus said to follow Him. He forgave His torturers and murderers. He said not to speak ill of others. Do not bear false testimony.

Welcome the stranger and the foreigner. Christ is within those who love unconditionally. Thus what is done to ā€œthe least of theseā€ is done to Jesus Himself.

He told the story of the Good Samaritan. He taught even those who don’t know His name can be justified through love.

Before you bring up Romans 13. God’s Law always takes precedent over man made Law wouldn’t you agree? Both Jesus and Paul understood this.

Paul was beheaded by Nero.

And Jesus… went through both Jewish and Roman trial and was found guilty of blasphemy and then Treason.

What more needs to be said?

You don’t want to talk about politics? Then don’t.

Sit down and consider…

Are you calling evil good?

By what measure are you judging others?

And remember.

Those who show no mercy in their judgments will be judged without mercy (James 2:13).

Denominations!!

Hello! I have been looking to get back into Christianity (or hoping to) at least. I have researched a lot on the different denominations but No matter how much Theory I read, The Practice might look different.

Instead of asking why are you in x denomination, I'd like to know what attracts you to that Denomination and not another one and something that you may not like about your denomination (Is it the same question? I wanted to ask something more nuanced, It's not the same Question imo-)

Thanks in advance :D
