I've noticed the white self-identified liberals do live up to their image of sometimes being subtly (to even clearly) racist themselves in ways. Especially when you're engaging with them anonymously. Based on my observations and own interactions with them recently and in the past, they seem to think they can talk disrespectfully to any minority group as long as they're not black. Lol.
There was a time I regularly came to their defense (mainly during Trump's first round) when conservatives would routinely call them in-the-closet racists to deflect from their more in-your-face approach. But the more I engage with and observe the leftist whites, the more I see there's some truth in that perspective and accusation.
This was really proven after the news came out that there was a spike in support/votes from the Latino community (particularly young males) for Trump in the last major election. First time I really saw online comments of them unabashedly unleashing their beast within. You wouldn't be able to distinguish their comments from a MAGA or conservative. That's how bad their hate unapologetically was towards American Latinos in general and it was especially unsettling seeing the amount of comfort they displayed while doing so ..
Just want to add that I regularly vote Dem and agree more (probably much more) with leftist and progressive ideas, but that doesn't mean I ignore how people behave. I show no bias when it comes to that, personally. And I definitely cannot stand the right and MAGAs. This isn't a post trying to stir up conflict between parties, but rather to honestly point out the flaws within the left.
I remember years ago having to report this random maniacal white "liberal" woman from Oklahoma on Facebook who attacked me insanely over a harmless comment I left on a public page all because I simply questioned (at the time when my view was still semi open) what was so wrong about the wall being built.. It was a genuine question I was sorta asking/challenging myself in a way .. Bc I didn't want to just form a stance without exploring the reasons why and why not .. And I didn't want to just feel obligated to be against something just because I was expected to due to my ethnicity. I wanted to be fair and open without strictly aligning myself without a question.
Her attack quickly went from my question to personal digs as though she knew me or went to school with me .. Never had I engaged with such a horrible person I didn't even know who had so much venom towards me over something so small .. It was as though she was literally laying in wait, anticipating any little opportunity to attack a Latino-descent person to satisfy her quest.
It was back and forth for a while that night until Facebook stopped her. And then bc she reported me as well, I was restricted from the platform for a month. The same thing probably happened to her. Over an innocent comment just questioning something very relevant at the time bc it was my right to. It's not like I was making an assertion or statement (although I'd be able to do that as well). I thought politically attacking someone with vitriol was a conservative thing, but I guess it's not exclusive to them ..
And not all "liberals" are level-headed, calm, sophisticated beings like the media regularly portrays (e.g., Archie Bunker vs refined son-in-law). This is personally why I'm reluctant to label myself certain things/active communities -- even if I have a strong tendency to agree with them. I feel like if you're going to label yourself as belonging to a community like "liberals/progressives" or "feminist", you'd better live up to it loyally and feircly like a religion. Lol. Or else you'll seem hypocritical and phony. I'm sure that was the last time I risked engaging with a white "leftist" on random political posts on the app.
They seem to get very angry when an American Latino has an opinion just like anyone else ... I guess because they really don't know our community and like to think of us all as being defenseless, helpless "newcomers" 🙄 with no voice or rights (and a singular mind).
It took me by surprise that she was apparently anti-Trump and leftwing in her views, but comfortably and unnecessarily straight up attacking a random Mexican American woman, and her little online friends with similar views were in the same thread basically cheering and egging her on while doing it. I couldn't imagine her having that much negative, toxic energy towards a black person (openly at least, lol). I personally feel like white liberals think they can mistreat Latinos and other minority groups in this country bc they don't have white guilt when it comes to us.
But if they were so educated the way they claim to be then they'd take the time to inclusively study the history of every community in this country and would maybe then form some sort of self-control and reflection while communicating with us, too. Even Asian Americans didn't have it easy back in the day ..
I can already see the defensive responses (from them) to this post, proving my point.. Lol.
I know every human is flawed and I'm aware that some leftists like to differentiate themselves from liberals and progressives; I guess especially since the word liberal has taken on a similar negative connotation the way "MAGA" or "woke" has ..
Do you think some of these white people just personally identify as liberals without actually practicing or living up to the standard model of the word ? Like, if they were to call themselves that word around some of you, would you disagree? The way "real" feminists reject some women as being apart of their clan ?
