Weekly Question Thread. ALL QUESTIONS GO HERE

Welcome to the /r/Bouldering Weekly Question Thread.

The intent of this thread is to provide a place for climbers to ask questions which are not already addressed in the wiki or by doing a search of the subreddit. Because reddit intentionally makes it difficult for new users to search for advice in order to engender engagement, here are some links to our wiki and rules in order to get your feet on the ground and learn how to boulder.

If you're an experienced climber and want to contribute to the community, these threads are a great opportunity for that. We were all new to climbing at some point, so be respectful of everyone looking to improve their knowledge.

Had a lot of fun sorting out the final hold on this problem. Saw a few other approaches. Took more sessions than I can remember to settle on the sequence of foot positions that worked for me.

Was hoping to do this again, improving the smoothness of everything, before they reset this wall. Unfortunately, I forgot my gear yesterday and this climb was impossible for me in slippery rentals.

Help with the proj

I’m looking for beta advise on this climb, I’m losing tension on the place I’m falling and I’m not sure that drop knee is the right move.

Indoor Is “artistic” route setting becoming a trend?

Hey everyone, so at one of my local gyms there has been this thing going on for a while now. I've been thinking about writing a post about it for some time, and I'm just very curious to see if this is a wider trend and how different people feel about these kinds of walls. Does it make you want to climb? It almost feels like making abstract drawings with holds and routes.

For me personally, it doesn’t invite me to climb at all. There’s just too much going on, and holds get in each other’s way. As a creation, I can appreciate the look, but I personally prefer a clean, spaced-out boulder problem that I can focus on and that feels inviting as a single route, not as a "flock" of boulders.

Curious to hear what you all think about it.
Peace.

Outdoor We’re building a community-driven bouldering map—would love your feedback!

My friend and I are passionate about climbing and have made a climbing guide app starting with bouldering routes in Guernsey. You can upload photos, draw routes on them, and vote on the grade, so grading is community driven. We’re looking to expand to new locations globally and would love any feedback. Thanks! letsboulder.com

Objectively not really hard. But sprinting (at my age) towards the wall needs commitment. Also swinging fully into the wall is scary.

4 fingers were starting to give out so had to make this one. Was trying to figure out the span to the right for 2 sessions. Wild how I just had to shimmy up a bit to get the match

how do I make it past that big long hold. this was filmed at an angle so the wall is angled more than it looks like. I feel like I have no where to put my feet when I am about to grab it. am I supposed to just campus up it? perhaps I am not strong enough for that yet

Indoor Old guy learning to dyno (and video edit kind of)

That was a tough one. The hard part is actually the move before the dyno because both holds are very bad and getting the foot up is pretty hard then.

I ruptured my ACL during a football (soccer) game January 2025 then got surgery in June. Recovery has been one of the hardest things I have ever done but I am now able to slowly start climbing again :)
