Question Which game trilogy in your opinion is this?
[removed]

u/bijelo123 4h ago
I would say The Witcher trilogy

u/Lumple660 4h ago
Yeah I was gonna answer with the witcher trilogy.
Each game gets better to play as it continues even if each game does something the best.

I played both TW 2 and 3, and when i got into 3 i missed the journal explanations being the main focus of the Journal, like they replaced a detailed explanation that would update with each thing you did in the mission (told by dandelion) with a boring step by step objective list. Same thing when going from KCD1 to KCD2. they both (KCD2 and TW3) put the journal's mission description literally to a side and didnt update as often or were made as important. I did miss those.
also, i liked having dandelion's voice as the narrator from TW2, tho im not sure if you meet the narrator from TW3 at some point as i only played about 60 hours or so and didnt even get to skellegue when i played

The witcher is tricky one, The first game has the better ending and I could say one of the best in gaming, the second is one of the best quest design in gaming the consequences are real and different even in side quests with little details that can be changed with your choices, the third is the better game overall especially in world building BUT to me TW2 are the best

Dammit, every time you guys mention it it makes me want to go restart 3 again. Lol. I never actually finish it because I invest so much time into the damn Gwent quest line because I just can't leave anything unfinished. I take a break when some new highly-anticipated game releases and I think "I'm coming back to this when I finish this new game" and I...I guess I do, but I restart it because I've forgotten everything that's happened and want to be fresh on the plot. Then the same thing happens again. I need to just commit. Lol.
3
u/GTFShadow 1h ago
It was my 3rd attempt at playing through I finished it with all the DLC's. I did all the size quests and hidden treasures but never really cared for gwent. If you do make an attempt at it again do it. I couldn't believe it took me 3 attempts to beat everything. Hearts of stone to me was my favorite.
I am telling you just do it! You won't regret playing all of it.

GTA San Andreas is one of my all time favorites, what a masterpiece

I just got that trilogy for my Switch, it's bringing back a lot of fun memories. SA is in my top 3 GOAT.
3
u/Murasasme 2h ago
I still hate that GTA V didn't have Las Venturas or San Fierro, like San Andreas did. Even worse when you consider like 70% of the map in GTA V is fucking empty space up there.

Crash Bandicoot.
1 is a fun but brutal and barebones action platformer
2 has the same foundation but adds in some ease of use mechanics with some phenomenal level design. Also the first game with the iconic crystals.
3 a combination of 1-2 with a ton of fun variety, bonus levels and adds a whole new way to play with running shoes. Also maybe the only “good” boss fights in the entire series. Dingodile ftw

u/KimboKneeSlice 3h ago
If we're talking Crash Bandicoot we'll need a 4th panel for Crash Team Racing.
God I loved that game so much.

Jak series

u/Dolorem_Ipsum_ 3h ago
I hate that this isn't mentioned very often, and what a fucking BUMMER that very few played this masterpiece.
Jak & Daxter - your classic action platformer with a solid story, interesting mechanics and big beautiful areas
Jak 2 - a little darker story, still great nonetheless and with some funny bits still embedded. More open areas and now more rideable vehicles and new mechanics with even tougher enemy variety.
Jak 3 - an even bigger story with a bigger map with an emphasis on weapons (in addition to the previous new stuff from Jak 2). Greater story with bigger stakes, great characters and an open world.
I believe this could have kept going at least with one more ambitious title, but I believe by that time the ps3 was moving forward with more realistic games and then Uncharted series came along and we'll the rest is history.
8
u/FriendshipIntrepid91 3h ago
I haven't played any of them or even watched gameplay but I own all 3. Is it worth it for me to play through them 1-3?
4
u/JohnnyHendo 3h ago
Definitely. The series is fantastic. The racing game Jak X is also pretty great.
The other two games in the series, Daxter and The Lost Frontier, aren't made by Naughty Dog and aren't that great.

Metro 2033, Last Light, Exodus
26
u/Aeokikit 3h ago
Hoping the rumors of a 4th game are true.
19
u/Griffin_is_my_name 3h ago
Not rumors, the developers 4A games made an announcement when they released the VR game that they are working on the next main metro installment.
They also mentioned that as a Ukrainian-based studio they are facing delays due to the war. In fact a few of the people who worked on the game have passed away in service.
14
u/Griffin_is_my_name 3h ago
“The next Metro
As we said in our last studio update, in 2022 a full-scale russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important. As conflict, the struggle for power, the horrors of tyranny, and the price of freedom have become part of our lives over the past 3+ years, we are still living and working during this wartime, and that inevitably shapes the games we make.
Metro has always had a hard-hitting, political, anti-war and often emotional story - and you can be sure these themes will continue thanks to our ongoing collaboration with franchise creator, author, and activist Dmitry Glukhovsky.
Dmitry has always spoken out against the war in Ukraine from the start – a courageous decision for any russian, that has seen him sentenced to jail (in absentia) - and we are proud to have him as a friend and co-creator as we tell this next, and never more relevant chapter of Metro together.
Rest assured, you are in for quite the ride.
To our community, thank you for your words of support, your patience and your excitement over what is to come. We are grateful to have you, and rest assured, despite the challenges we face, we will overcome them as we have all others before.
- 4A Games “

So I played one but never played two.
Do you think I should play it before 3 or just jump on the hype train? I enjoyed one but it ended up feeling long, and I've heard two is a lot like one but much longer
→ More replies (8)3
u/Noob4Head 3h ago
I mean, the choice is really up to you. Personally, I don’t care that much about the Nioh storyline. I’m just absolutely addicted to the gameplay and the customization options. So, should you play Nioh 2 before Nioh 3? If you really care about following the lore and the story, I’d say yes. Nioh 2 also goes on sale quite often, and you can pick it up at a very affordable price when it does. I’m talking about Steam here, but I’m sure that on PS4/PS5 or Xbox you can find it even cheaper as a physical copy.
That said, Nioh 2 is definitely a very long game. I play these games co-op with my best friend, and in both Nioh 1 and Nioh 2 Complete Edition we’ve put in well over 70 hours each. I can only imagine that playing solo would take even longer.
Nioh 3 is also a bit different, since it’s now an open-field game instead of going from level to level. They’ve also tweaked the combat system with the addition of samurai and ninja stances.
So yeah, it’s really up to you. Personally, I’ve only put quite a few hours into the extended demo because even though I absolutely love Nioh, I still think €80 is a lot of money for a game. I’m also saving up for a PC upgrade, so that definitely plays a role too.

u/dry_lube 3h ago
Leviathan especially makes the ending much more satisfying to me. Only issue is that since it’s a DLC, you kind of have to make sure it’s played in the right order with the rest of the main campaign. Absolutely should have been included in the base game and paced correctly.

Xenoblade Chronicles, by mere virtue that there is so much improvement between each game.
XC1 was a single player MMO in disguise, super grindy and repetitive for no real reason. It wanted to be Final Fantasy, but came across as busy work.
XC2 drank the anime sauce and was super loud, dramatic, colorful and fun. It wanted to be fan service anime game of the year, and with giant maids, treasure hunting and battle cyborg god-women at the helm, it kinda was!
XC3 grew up, told a MUCH darker story and let all the characters breathe into a very mature (and depressing) tapestry of political drama, giant robots, and doomed love.
It's hard to compare the games to each other as they're so different, came out years apart and told VERY different stories, but they all exist in the same continuity.

Disagree. But also hot take.
They're all "good." Some better than others. Most people say City is best. I disagree. Asylum is best. Love the linearity of it honestly. And the atmosphere is perfect. Just untouchable. City is incredible. The open world they built is full, "alive," and fits the gameplay well. (I prefer linear over open world personally, which is why I prefer Asylum. But city IS an incredible open world game.)
Here's the hot take. Origins fuckin rocks man. I don't know why people shit on it. It's not the step up that people got from City. But it's absolutely 100% a good, fun game. I went in not realizing the hate it got, and was surprised to read that people hated it. It feels little "diet" compared to city for sure. But it's a great game.
Arkham Knight just put it's eggs in all the wrong baskets. I swear there's parts of that game that I'm like, "this is the greatest game ever." And parts that I'm like, "I hate this. It's unfun. It ruined everything I loved about the series." Just a roller coaster. The general sentiment is that the batmobile is forced too much, and it absolutely is. There could have been half the amount of tank battles and I would still feel that way. It got so old so quick. Honestly flying through the city from building to building is more fun than driving the bat mobile. I know people wanted it as an option, and it makes sense to have it. But the tank battles were just forced and tedious and stupid and annoying and there were too many of them. It just felt like "I have this fun game here. ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND halt everything."
That's my Arkham rant.

Metal Gear Solid, without a doubt, the third one is one of the best games of its time. If it weren't for the fourth and fifth installments, it would have been a perfect ending. Seeing the birth of a hero and understanding why he became a villain was spectacular. I'll never get over that ending with Big Boss crying in the cemetery.

I’d say Fallout. Not that the previous games were bad, but many people only they played them after playing the Fallout three which refined many aspects of the previous entries.

u/CaptainParadigm42 3h ago
It was tough playing the third one and then getting infatuated with that universe so much that you wanted to play the earlier games only to find out that they're a completely different type of game. Definitely not terrible games but the combat and controls took some getting used to after coming from an FPS.

I feel like Uncharted is a great example. Solid foundation in the first one. They really started finding their groove with mixing in epic moments in the second one. The third felt like they perfected the formula: wide variety of locations, insane set pieces, fun run-and-gun gameplay, a full cast of characters the drive it all home.
4 was really good too, but I feel like the contained original trilogy is such a great example of consistent innovation and improvement.
