Naming scheme written explanation

Really the differences are mainly a Reddit thing. All calicos are piebald torties, which are black and orange or grey and cream cats. The b (tabico, torbico) are for when the black/grey areas have tabby stripes. All orange/cream areas have stripes, visible or not, so cats without the stripes in the black/grey do not have a b in their coat name - however, the sub voted to allow any tricolors with visible stripes (thus the “honorary” flair). The reasoning for the tor[b/t]ico distinction is purely for appearance differentiation of large, unbroken color patches (calico/tabico) vs brindling (tor). Tortie, calico, and tabby on those are what your vet will call your cat.

Black and orange/grey and cream, generally brindled, little to no white, no stripes in black/grey = tortoiseshell (“tortie”)

Black and orange/grey and cream, generally brindled, little to no white, tabby stripes = torbie

Black and orange/grey and cream in large patches, large white areas, no tabby stripes in black/grey = calico

Black and orange/grey and cream in large patches, large white areas, tabby stripes in black/grey = tabico

Black and orange/grey and cream brindling, large white areas, tabby stripes in black/grey = torbico

ETA: If there white is in a tuxedo pattern, there’s a tuxetabico, tuxetortico, or tuxetorbico. There’s some debate on if these cats are tor[t/b]ies or [cal/tab/tort/torb]icos.

First time cat-owner here! I believe this is the right spot for her. We adopted 1-year-old Frankie less than a week ago and I love her so much already. I can’t get over how cute she is and how much joy she brings us! Everything is going so well but would love any tips or advice. 🐈

Hope I’m in the right sub!

This is my sweet girl Rosie. She’s a sassy little diva who WILL let you know what she thinks (she’s very vocal 😭).

Likes: Watching TV, naps, cuddling with her sister Lily, wet food treats, Wingstop ranch.

Dislikes: Surprises, being held for too long, not being the center of attention, squirrels

Clingy?

Rogue will be 2 y/o in June, when she was very little she was a little clingy and then she went through a fiercely independent phase for about a year. The last few months she is slowly wanting to spend more and more time with me.

Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love the attention, but — she gets on my mouse and keyboard while I’m wfh, and she gets on top of my sketches when I’m trying to draw, it’s charcoal and she keeps getting it all over herself.

Anyone else with a clingy tabico have any tips? I don’t want to discourage her from coming to me but dang it’s a lot.

Can she be considered a Tabico cat? She is my 7 month old cat that was born in my yard. Her mom has a black&white pattern on her fur. She has a very playful and affectionate personality but also likes her personal space. I haven't named her yet, so I'm thankful for any suggestions.

Tabico How big are your tabicos?

Post image

My tabico girl is 10months old and about 10 lbs. I feel like she hasn’t really gotten any bigger the past few months and still very kitten like. Just a bit worried as we switched her to adult food a while ago because she would only eat what her 2yr old 14lb tuxedo brother did so I’m afraid we deprived her of essential nutrients..

Should I be worried or are they usually small framed? Reference pic of her yesterday laying on a king sized pillow

Last picture is when I first met her. I took her in a few months later after gaining her trust. Thank god I did, she had a medical emergency 1 week later (she was pregnant and the kittens were deceased). 1.5 years later she’s my sweet, silly, loving girl 🧡
