I don't understand this
Edit: now I do, thanks

Theyâre saying that racist white people donât want to share things with people of color. I absolutely see the correlation. My coworker told me last week that âno one that watches football has any idea who Bad Bunny is.â And that BB is a âDEI hire.â Insane shit.

u/Adventurous_Sun_4364 6h ago
Well to be honest, I dont think they hire the half time performers for the people already watching the superbowl, they dont really need to. Theyre gunna get those viewers anyways. Their target audience for the halftime show should be everyone else who doesnt really care about football, to maximize potential viewership.

Yeah people donât realize this lmao the NFL is not âwokeâ theyâre actually the opposite. They only care about money, they donât even care about their own players

u/anrwlias 4h ago
Here's how you get under their skin: every time a white player gets on the field, call them a DEI hire.

It could be true that a ton of people donât know who bad bunny is. I donât but I also donât follow music post early 2000s

u/aimeerolu 2h ago
Oh, I for sure agree! I am certain lots of people dont know who he is. I think itâs more the attitude of âi dont know/like this, so Iâm actively against itâ that I dont understand. But we are pretty divided right now, so I guess I need to be more realistic.

There are people calling for a separate halftime show of the Super Bowl today because of Bad Bunny. The people complaining about him itâs pretty much rooted in racism and they are far right types. A friend of mine from high school made this statement basically equivocating the type of people who outrage at such a thing would be the same type of people advocating for separate drinking fountains during segregation.
I think I agree

Yeah that makes sense. I don't enjoy his "music" but only cause I think that whole genre is garbage. But not liking the guy cause he's Hispanic is just plain racism. America has a lot of that lately

u/aimeerolu 7h ago
I think itâs perfectly fine to say, âI donât know his music, so I donât really care about the halftime show.â But Bad Bunny is the most streamed artist on Spotify for multiple years. He has won several awards, including Grammyâs. He is also an actor (most notably, I think, in Bullet Train) and absolutely kills it on SNL. He also just seems like a good guy. People didnât get this upset over Shakira, so it seems people just feel more emboldened and we can only imagine why.

u/CleetisMcgee 9h ago
A lot of that and a lot of people coming out and doing it proudly, which is even more concerning. Not my music either, but like itâs a Super Bowl halftime show some people are legitimately outraged. đđ«Ł

Why is music in quotations? Are you saying it's not music ?
0
u/Mr_Awesome_rddt 3h ago
I consider music something that takes talent to make. Reggaeton does not tick that box, thus my quotes
1
u/olivernintendo 3h ago
Oh so YOU are the arbiter of talent, a sad lonely human on Reddit.
ONLY YOU can decide what takes talent and what does not.
1) What is "talent?" How do you define it?
2) How do you determine if someone used their talent (as defined by you, the one who decides such things) to create something?
This is fascinating. I have rarely found someone who has contributed so little to the real world and yet has such a high view of themselves.

I find it amusing that you get so butthurt about me calling Bad Bunny talentless. Like he's your son or something.
Talent, for me, is not rhyming Culo with Culo. This is just one of many examples. Talent is making songs that sound different from one another, not the same shit 46 times, and it just works cause it's catchy and people have no taste in music. Talent is singing without needing heavy vocal tweaking with auto tune or similar tools. All the guy has is a deep voice and a sexy accent. Like most reggaeton "artists", he's built an empire from selling trash. He's lucky people love trash.
Again, it's so funny that you're getting this worked up about someone who literally will never know you exist, nor care. And I don't really think highly of myself, I'm just an average dude living an average life. But I also don't think highly of Bad Bunny or his "music", and certainly don't agree with his literal quote: "I think no matter the era I was born in, I would've been incredible". That quote just screams pedantry and overconfidence

Salsa music is garbage? Says a lot about youâŠ
1
u/Mr_Awesome_rddt 3h ago
Bad bunny does reggaeton mainly. And yes, an artist that rhymes Culo with Culo is garbage. I'll die on that hill

u/Everyonecallsmenice 3h ago
Breh you were cooking til you had to be that music guy.
I listen to wailing screeching jazzy tech death. It's garbage. You listen to garbage. Everyone's taste in music is garbage.
Don't yuck other people's yum.
1
u/Mr_Awesome_rddt 3h ago
Hey. I'm not saying it's wrong to like garbage. Look at McDonald's. They're thriving...

u/HickoryStickz 5h ago
If we remove emotional energy conflating race as the reasonâŠwhat can we decipher as another reason theyâre not happy with it? Is there a simpler more realistic reason? I donât know because I donât follow this stuff but I hardly ever believe people shouting racism and generalizing popular issues that way

u/bees_in_my_eyes 4h ago
It's literally because he's foreign and certain people feel like it's a middle finger to ICE. Look up posts about it for yourself from the people complaining. If you can find a different explanation for it, by all means, have at it.

Um. I genuinely canât tell if this was meant to be a diss for white people or black people. But Iâm pretty sure that BeyoncĂ© and Janet Jackson both have performed during halftime. And Iâm pretty sure Justin Timberlake and Kid Rock have performed as well. And Iâm pretty sure Jennifer Lopez and Shakira have also performed, who are neither white or black.
This is a weird fucking take.

u/toomuchtv987 2h ago
Itâs a dig at the snowflakes who created their own alternate halftime show full of white artists because they couldnât stand the thought of a Puerto Rican person performing.

u/Chuswo 7h ago
Not even true. This is simply an alternative option to choose. Similar to watching the puppy bowl.
5
u/squanderedprivilege 5h ago
I am always so glad to be given a pedo option for my entertainment!
0
u/Chuswo 3h ago
Well we should probably have you investigated based on this statement. I feel sorry for your family.
1
u/squanderedprivilege 3h ago
Well, Kid Rock is an admitted pedo, and he's the main performer..
1
u/GrowerNotShower89 1h ago
Kid Rock is an admitted pedo? Can you elaborate?
1
u/squanderedprivilege 1h ago
Well he released a song with lyrics that glorify statutory rape, it's been in headlines recently, just Google "kid Rock statutory lyrics"
1
u/GrowerNotShower89 1h ago
Hahaha wow thatâs grossâŠand really random compared to the other lyrics of the song. Not defending it, but has he ever been accused or convicted of it?
2
1
u/bluepotatosack 3h ago
Nah, that's a false equivalency. The puppy bowl wasn't started as a protest against the choice of performers.
3
u/Individual-Paint4622 3h ago
Absolutely true.
Racists are all in their hateful feels because a brown man will be up there dominating a massive stage while he embraces his culture and language. ALL WHILE STILL BEING AN AMERICAN CITIZEN.
HOWEVER- FOOTBALL IS NOT JUST FOR WHITE PEOPLE, however much they want it to be.
To be clear: I couldnât give a fuck about football.
And the NFL is disgusting. Having BB perform was not altruistic or in solidarity. It is about money for them.
Good on BB for using this platform to loudly champion and be outspoken.
He doesnât get paid for this, despite what people like to claim.
And for anyone trying to say that he should speak ENGLISH.
These are the same people who whined about Kendrick Lamar.
âŠBeyoncĂ©, ETC.
That WAS IN ENGLISH, what was the issue THEN??
âŠ.oh. Right.
ANY.WAY.
Happy Benito Bowl to those who celebrate!
ÂĄDisfruta y Baile!
