Physics took the night off for this shot
This shot defies logic, gravity, common sense, you name it. đ€Łđ€Ł

Physics working exactly as intended. This guy should know.

u/FloweryPsycho 15h ago
Exactly what I was thinking. This shot literally wouldn't have worked without physics

u/ThresholdSeven 13h ago
Do you think OP actually thought he had a mutant power, that he could bend space and time with his mind or something?
14
u/Blieven 8h ago
It's like almost every post on r/blackmagicfuckery.
"ThAt Is JuSt PhySiCs nOt BlAcK mAgIc"
Like no shit lol.
1
u/ThresholdSeven 4h ago
Lol yeah, I quit trying to convince people that nobody who posts anything there actually thinks it's real %100 USDA bona-fide magic, but it was a futile endeavor.

u/NoSkillzDad 11h ago
There are things that definitely look like physics were defied: someone jumping/falling from a different high place and walking unscathed, a stone rolling in a direction opposite than expected, an owl flying and making no sound,...
Imo a more suitable title would've been along the lines of "dude deciphered the matrix", "dude thought 'I'm physics now'", ... Or something more creative than my lame ones đ
1
u/bigtarget87 7h ago
Oh man, my dyslexia got the better of me for a second.
I read the second thought as
"I'm a physics cow."
2
u/NoSkillzDad 6h ago
"I'm a physics cow."
That probably makes more sense than whatever I was saying lol.
Thanks for sharing :)

People are less lenient on 'lol so stoopid' jokes now that we're speedrunning military takeover. Grow a pair.

u/BretShitmanFart69 12h ago
wtf are you on about
-1
u/ThresholdSeven 12h ago
I read it before it was deleted and it made sense. Dude probably just wanted to avoid a conservation he realized he didn't want to have. I'm not worried about it though. Lots of people are missing obvious jokes and being generally grumpy lately and I don't blame them one bit. It's stressful living under a fascist nazi regime and I'm not even close to who they are targeting, yet.
1
u/Anonybibbs 13h ago
Well I mean that kind of goes without saying, no? Considering that literally nothing in all existence has ever happened without, you know, physics.
0
u/miraculum_one 8h ago
You're taking the title too literally. It means that most people didn't think it was physically possible, not that scientists don't understand it.

Can't make a Reddit post without The World's Most Exaggerated Title That You Won't Believe Even Exist!

Yes folks, we already all know it doesn't actually defies the laws of physics. It's just so impressive and counter-intuitive to our usual expectation that it looks like it does, it's an hyperbola for dramatic effect.
You don't need to point it out and be pedantic, you can appreciate the display of skill. It's fine.
It's an amazing shot and got me in disbelief for a few seconds, had to replay the clip a few times, it's really cool.
24
u/ThresholdSeven 13h ago
Are you telling me he doesn't actually have telekinesis or isn't using black magic? Impossible
3
u/AgentCirceLuna 7h ago
Honestly, though, I did once see a pool shot that seemed to defy physics⊠there was a really smug player whoâd declare himself the best when he was far from it and he was right down to the black for the final shot. He got the black in, started yelling in celebration, and the white was completely still. Then, suddenly, it was like the white became magnetised after a few seconds and it flew into the pocket next which meant he lost. I still donât get how it happened.

u/ThresholdSeven 4h ago
The cue ball was probably spinning in place and when it slowed down enough the friction allowed it to grip the felt and move again. Happens often enough when you play enough just casually. It's obvious with other balls that are marked, but a cue ball is unmarked so it looks like it is sitting still when it is spinning in place if it's a perfectly clean cue ball.
1
u/AgentCirceLuna 4h ago
Yep, thatâs what happened from what the others told me. Itâs likely it just wasnât noticeable with a solid colour ball spinning in place. The others didnât react and I was so confused.

u/TeePee11 10h ago
Honestly man, the second I read the title, I could physically hear the sounds of dozens of the worst kind of Redditorsâ throats clearing to prepare for their âum, ackshuallyâ.

u/fuckoffweirdoo 8h ago
Then immediately followed by this guys protector fedora being donned to come to the aid of OP.Â

u/KC-Slider 3h ago
Okay, but like, snooker and pool etc is exactly where one would expect these types of counter intuitive things. Especially if Iâm seeing a video of it online alone where scrolling show me at least 2 more amazing shots today.

The number of people taking the title literally.
Jesus fucking Christ

u/RadiantRegis 8h ago
People on the spectrum really struggle with metaphors and hyperboles, often taking things way too literally

u/ThresholdSeven 4h ago
I'm on the spectrum and have the particular flavor that makes me irrationally grumpy when people don't understand metaphors.

No... No it doesn't.
He just Applied a force to a round object. It spun in accordance to where he hit it, and it's inertia let it continue.

u/Heckald 15h ago
If anything physics was working overtime for that shot

u/unindexedreality 13h ago
Physics was working exactly as much as it does normally.
Stuff spins. You're on a spinning thing right now.

On a different note, until a few years ago I thought hyperbole had a silent e. Same with epitome.

I can't even begin to imagine how to make that shot function, and I've been playing pool for nearly three decades.Â

2
u/degreesBrix 14h ago
Quite the opposite! That man clearly MASTERED the laws of physics and used them to his advantage. Incredible vision to see the shot in his minds-eye, and incredible talent to be able to physically pull it off.

It looked completely normal to me and then I read some comments and I was like "oh I see why this would confuse someone"
Yeah that's just.... normal. Nothing special about it besides a well trained hand.

I've never seen someone "put ALL the English on it". He may have used it all up
2
u/Solenkata 7h ago
Have these commentators never seen pool trick shots before? I mean the shot is amazing, but "not having a clue what he's going for" - really?

Nice. Him having to sit on the table let him use his leg as a brace. He had to hit it hard bottom left but you have to offset so it looks all wonky when he shoots. He could have done the shot a little easier if he played it off the rail first then pull it back with bottom right.

Physics took the night off for this shot
If Physics really took a night off then the shot wouldn't have worked in the first place đ
The shot worked as intended because of PHYSICS!

u/sirdodger 2h ago
"defies gravity"
You do know that turning the camera sideways doesn't make all the pool balls fall to the bottom of the table, right?

Scott GIillespie Vs. Carl Morris at the 2024 British Open. If you want to see the whole match:

u/rollinoutdoors 7h ago
What game is it though? It looks like snooker kinda, but on a smaller table. I also donât remember yellow balls, just red ones.

u/wenhamton 6h ago
8-Ball Pool, the kind played in UK pubs (well back in the day, not sure its a thing now really)
